Slingshot laid on her bed curled up. She could feel her head split into two, like a knife cutting into a cake. Her headache was one of the worst she had gotten in a while. She didn't move. She couldn't move, and she didn't want to. Her body was stiff, stuck until she gathered the strength to snap back to reality. Slingshot rolled over.
You're an awful human being, she thought to herself. Scummy piece of trash, she thought to herself. The worst part was that she was directing everything towards herself. Slingshot didn't know what it felt like to cry anymore. She didn't cry. She just felt tired. She didn't have the energy to speak. She was too tired to feel anything but that feeling she doesn't know the name of.
When can I just have peace? She thought to herself. I'm not even angry or sad about this anymore. I just want peace. I just want to move on. Forgive myself. She battered her mind. I just want to forgive myself or know if the only way out is to end my story here. Slingshot felt a single tear run down her cheek. She wiped it away, sniffling a bit. She didn't want that. Slingshot didn't want to die. But she was willing if it would make it all stop.
There was a knock at the door. Slingshot wouldn't get up. Whatever it was, it could wait. Not right now. But then she heard his voice. Coil's voice.
"You home, Sling?" Coil asked, his voice sounding panicked. Slingshot clung to her pillow. "Sling, open the door. I know you're in there." Slingshot whimpered. Not out of fear. Not out of sadness. Only out of annoyance. She slumped out of bed, and walked over to the door. Slingshot opened the door, the taller man greeting her. "Hey." Coil said. Slingshot didn't reply, but she nodded. Coil broke the silence not long after it started. "...Can I come inside?" He asked. Slingshot nodded, walking inside.
You're bringing his mood down, Slingshot thought to herself. You need to say something, at the very least. Slingshot obliged, but she still couldn't bring herself to speak. "...I–" She began. Coil looked towards the girl, his usual playful and tough gaze fading away into a confused one. Slingshot stood in silence, pinching her nose and sighing softly.
"If you don't got anythin' nice to say, don't say it at all, darlin'." Coil smirked. Slingshot frowned. Coil's smile faded too. "Not in the mood, huh?" He asked. Slingshot shook her head. "Kay... Uh..." Coil rubbed his chin. "Whaddya say we get somethin' to eat?"
"No." Slingshot nodded. "I just want to stay here right now." Coil looked confused. "I'm too tired to go anywhere, Coil."
"Oh." Coil replied. "That's aight." Slingshot smiled slightly. Coil walked over to her, patting her on the back. "Want me to stay here with ya, then?" Coil asked.
"Yeah. I'd like that." Slingshot replied.
Slingshot buried her face into Coil's chest. Coil stroked the girl's hair with one hand, holding her tight with the other. Coil threw a blanket over the two, providing warmth. Coil planted a kiss on the top of Slingshot's head.
"Sleep well, my pretty girl." He half-whispered. Slingshot fell into a deep sleep. Eventually Coil did too.
A temporary peace for Slingshot. Permanent when she was with Coil. Always gone to leave her when he was gone.
She wishes it would stay forever, at the very least.
