Chapter Text

The battle rages on as a shadow ghost is facing against a purple horned pokemon as the duo are throwing hands and abilities at each other.

“And here we are folks! The battle continues and who will win!? Red's Gengar or Crystal’s Nidoking!? And look at that! Gengar is using Shadow Ball! What's going to happen to Nidoking!?”

As Gengar fires a ball shadowy spirits and fires it, leading Nidoking to block as it hits Nidoking himself.

“Gengar, we need to bide some time.” Red calls Gengar, making Gengar himself nod.

“It turns out your Gengar is giving some time. But unfortunately, Nidoking is Ground type. Although, considering you're a veteran, I need to shuffle the cards.” Crystal speaks out calmly while showing a little smile.

In Red's eyes, Gold and Crystal are the same in terms of how they play and what their vibes are as if they're irreplaceable, but Gold is cocky, cunning and somewhat manipulative whereas Crystal is calm and calculative.

Despite their differences, they're the same as Crystal is similar to Gold at Mount Silver.

The only way to beat Crystal and her Nidoking is to play her game.

“Get ready, Gengar.” Red nods, giving Gengar the chance to ready his stance.

“Dig, Nidoking.” Crystal clicks her fingers, making Nidoking dig as fast as he can.

With Nidoking underground, Gengar is bracing himself, making Red raise his arm.

“And look at that! Nidoking is underground! What will Gengar do!?” The announcer shouts with excitement.

The announcer is right, what will Gengar do?

Closing his eyes, Red is waiting for the moment that Nidoking is nearby.

Finally, he opens them as he shouts “Now! Gengar, use Shadow Claw!”

As Gengar leaps from Nidoking as Nidoking bursts out of the ground, Gengar raises his arm as shadowy spirits are forming around his arms, leading Gengar to charge and claw Nidoking's face.

“No way!” Crystal gasps, realising that her cards are fumbling.

“Now's our chance.” Red raises his arm, revealing a purple gem on his wrist bangle.

“This is…” Crystal recognises what this is.

“Is that a Mega Stone!? A- A Gengarite!? Looks like Red is preparing himself to give Gengar a special evolution!” The announcer yells as the crowd cheers loudly.

As Red raises his Keystone on his bangle, Mega Bracelet, he presses it, causing him and Gengar to grunt at the same time.

“Let's do this, Gengar!” Red yells, making Gengar yell while resisting the pain.

What causes Gengar to scream is his 3rd eye opening on his forehead and his limbs enlarge as well as his tail lengthen, changing his colour from full purple to faded red.

Finally, Red and Mega Gengar pant as the duo are feeling each other’s pain, making the crowd roar with excitement.

“OH MY GOD! This is it, folks! Looks like Red is taking the risk by mega evolution! Will he win this!?” The announcer yelled.

As Nidoking stands up, he cracks his neck and shoulders, only for Crystal to stay calm and play her cards right.

“You and Hibiki always risk yourselves in a Pokémon battle by making the weak triumph the strong. Not a bad play, but it's my turn to play your game.” Red pants while smirking.

“So you're going for the high risk, high reward type of game. Then let us begin, former champion.” Crystal taunts with a serious look, ready to backfire Red's move.

Finally, Mega Gengar and Nidoking charge towards each other and slam their fists on each other's face.

“Who’s going to win!? A Mega Gengar at the risk of losing control, or a Nidoking that's less powerful, but more tactful!?” The announcer shouts.

With the crowd cheering the battle keeps on going.

Kanto Region, Pallet Town

“YEAH! Go, big bro! Kick that Nidoking's butt!” Cheering while watching Pokémon battle on TV, the boy cheers for his big brother Red and his Gengar.

The boy is Tsukamaete Satoshi and since he's 10 years old, he's ready to have his very first official Pokémon.

“Finally, after all these years, I finally have the chance to become a Pokémon trainer. Big bro, I hope you're waiting for me because I'll be just like you. A Pokémon master.” Satoshi places his hand on a Kanto/Johto league poster that even featured Red and his Pikachu.

While Satoshi is cheering while watching TV, a door opens as a woman appears calling for her son’s name.

“Satoshi! Honestly, why haven't you slept? Do you know tomorrow is your first day?” Satoshi's mother, Tsukamaete Hanako, asks as she's unimpressed with her son staying up late.

“I know, but I can't help myself! I hope big bro is waiting for me to become a Pokémon master!” Satoshi excitedly assures Hanako what he wanted in life.

“Haah. Like father, like sons. You and Akagi seemed to be this excited before starting your journeys. At least Akagi came in contact unlike his father.” Said Hanako.

“Relax, mom. I promise to do what big bro does. I'll make sure to wake up by the alarm.”

“Good. Also, you need to study if you want to be a trainer.” Hanako picks up the remote and changes the channel on Satoshi's TV. “When you finish, make sure to go to bed.”

“Sure.”

Now the TV shows a middle aged man in a lab coat waving with a joyful smile.

“Hello everyone, I'm Ohkido Yukinari, better known as Professor Oak. In this world, children get to start their journeys as Pokémon trainers.” Professor Oak reveals the board that shows 3 Pokémon on screen.

“In every region, trainers start with a Grass type, a Fire type and a Water type. For example, Bulbasaur, a Seed Pokémon that is a Grass type starter. Charmander, a Lizard Pokémon that is a Fire type starter. And Squirtle, a Tiny Turtle Pokémon that is a Water type starter.”

Satoshi is interested in what Professor Oak is trying to say, making him memorise what he needs.

“Pokémon are raised with infinite possibilities like being your parental figure, a pet, a partner to be with, these creatures are well known to be man's best friend. Their environment is very important as well as yours which means there is a value in bonding. The stronger the Pokémon, the better your friendship has become.”

As the lesson continues, Satoshi is still taking notes on Professor Oak’s beginner class.

Later as the night continues, Satoshi snoozes as he mumbles in bed at the top bunk, saying the names of the starter Pokémon that Professor Oak introduced him to.

“Hehehe… Bulbasaur… Charmander… Squirtle… I choose… You…” While mumbling in his sleep, Satoshi chucks his ball that is an alarm clock, causing it to smash as he falls back to sleep and tuck himself in his blanket.

In the morning.

“Satoshi? Satoshi!” Hanako calls as her voice is louder.

“Mmn… Yeah…” Satoshi mumbles in his sleep.

“I thought you went out. Do you know what time it is?”

“Mmn… What?”

“It's seven in the morning.”

“Ah… Seven… Hm? Seven!?” Satoshi jolts up, exclaims that it's 7AM in the morning, causing him to jump off his bed. “Oh crap!”

Until he falls down the ladder and crashes, causing him to rub his head and stand up.

“Mom! Why didn't you wake me up!?”

“I did. Your alarm just broke before I came to your room.” Hanako said after seeing what happened to the alarm clock with a mini Pidgey exposed and destroyed.

“Crap! Gotta go!” Satoshi rushes past before Hanako says something.

“Satoshi! Wai-” Interrupted by Satoshi screaming and falling down the stairs, Hanako is worried that her own son is rushing which leads to hurting himself.

As he leaves the house, Satoshi is running from the dirt trails to the road, making him rush through before the traffic lights change as people stop the cars and exclaim.

Although his feet hurt from running barefoot on the concrete ground, he’s finally near the lab while heading up the stairs.

Professor Oak’s Laboratory

“Professor Oak!” Satoshi shouts, catching Professor Oak off guard while watering a Bellsprout, an Oddish and a Sunflora.

“Oh! Satoshi. Glad you arrived. Unusual of you to be out in your pyjamas.” Professor Oak sighs and smiles while letting the watered Pokémon go.

“So, where's the Pokémon? I can't wait to start my journey!”

“Now, now, calm down, young man. I'm sure there's plenty of chances of getting your first Pokémon. Follow me.”

Marching together into the building, Satoshi is in awe that Professor Oak is keeping as many Pokémon from every region, considering they're not from Kanto, making him continue following and moving from the bird Pokémon that flies past.

Finally, they're in a lab, meaning the time for Satoshi to begin his journey as a Pokémon trainer, making him approach the desk and pick up a Poké ball.

“I finally got the choice. Hehe. Alright, Squirtle, I choose you!”

As the Poké ball opens, nothing is coming out.

“Eh? Uh, Professor?” Satoshi turns around, unsure if it's okay to keep an empty Poké ball.

“Ah. I remember, there was a trainer that went here on time. I guess you can't have a Squirtle.” Professor Oak concludes.

“Okay. I guess I'll go with Charmander!”

Another Poké ball contains nothing.

“What?” Satoshi is now unsure what to say.

“That's also taken by a trainer that isn't late.” Professor Oak says while shaking his head.

“Right. Maybe there's a chance! Let's start our journey, Bulbasaur!”

Finally, nothing.

“Ah. That trainer left a moment ago, so I guess there's nothing I can do.” Professor Oak concluded.

“Ugh… That means I have to go on a journey without a Pokémon?” Satoshi asks with worry.

“I mean, there's a Pokémon I have with me, but it's kind of a problematic one. Are you sure you'll be able to handle it?” Professor Oak asks.

“Of course! Anything! I really need a Pokémon!” Satoshi begs.

“Alright. And speak of the devil.”

Appearing while running, it stops and looks at Satoshi and Professor Oak, leading Satoshi to run towards it and pick it up.

“Wow!”

“Pikachu?”

“This is Pikachu, an Electric Mouse Pokémon. I suggest you should be careful with him.” Professor Oak warns until Satoshi hugs it with excitement by rubbing cheeks which made Pikachu uncomfortable.

“Awesome! He's so cute! I'm Tsukamaete Satoshi! Let's go on a journey together!” Satoshi excitedly suggested until lightning sparks came out of Pikachu's red cheeks.

“Pika…” Pikachu growls, glaring at Satoshi as he charges himself.

“Huh?”

“CHU!” Pikachu yells, causing an electrocution all over Satoshi's body as Satoshi himself screams.

“I did warn you. Making him angry will make it worse. It's best you shouldn't provoke him.” Said Professor Oak.

“S- Sure thing… P- Professor…” Satoshi twitches, understanding why he shouldn't make Pikachu uncomfortable.

“Anyway, Pikachu, this is your new trainer. Remember, you're both a team, so start acting like one.” Professor Oak says to Pikachu

“Pika Pikachu?” Pikachu asks while growling.

“I know you don't want that, but you need to go out. Here's the Poké ball.” Professor Oak hands the Poké ball to Satoshi as a gift of owning a Pikachu.

“Cool! Thanks, Professor Oak! Alright, let's go and see my mom. I'm sure you'll like her. She's kind and fun! Sometimes… Even when doting on me.” Satoshi doesn't want to go into detail about his mother, making Pikachu curious.

“I bet your mother isn't home.”

“Nah. She's at the Pallet House restaurant.” Satoshi answers, knowing where his mother's at the time.

Leaving the lab, Satoshi and Professor Oak are heading out of the lab as they're about to head to Pallet House.

Pallet House

At the restaurant, a building that also serves as an inn for guests to sleep in, meaning it's the only restaurant in Pallet Town.

Hanako places a bowl of egg rice and sushi in front of a woman and bow and then halts as she sees Satoshi and Professor Oak with a Pokémon.

“Satoshi! There you are! Oh? And is that a Pokémon?” Hanako is surprised to see a Pikachu on Satoshi's arms.

“Yeah! This is Pikachu! He's my new partner!” Satoshi lets Pikachu on the floor, making the people in the restaurant surprised and talk about Pikachu in his surroundings.

“Congratulations. It's just like Akagi with his Charmander.” Hanako's smile fades after thinking back about her oldest son gone without coming back.

“Yeah.” Satoshi agreed.

“Oh! Before you leave, I have everything packed for you! Here's your clothes, your cleaning products, your trainers because let's not forget about them, you also need some rubber gloves and-”

“Okay! I get it, mom. You don't have to explain everything to me.” Satoshi nervously chuckles while taking the things his mother describes, including his backpack.

“Oh? I was thinking, why isn't Pikachu in his Poké ball?” Hanako asked.

“You're right.” Satoshi places his stuff on the counter and holds out a Poké ball with a lightning symbol. “Hey, Pikachu, it’s time to return."

Hearing that alerted Pikachu to whip his tail on the Poké ball to Satoshi's face, causing Satoshi to exclaim and catch the ball after it hits his face.

“Oi. Come on. It won't be that bad. Here.”

After Satoshi throws a Poké ball, Pikachu hits the ball with his tail.

Throw and Pikachu headbutts it back.

Again and again.

This leads to Professor Oak groaning while rubbing his temples whereas Hanako is overjoyed to see her son playing ball with Pikachu, even the people in the restaurant are in awe as a few are clapping.

“Wow! You really are amazing friends! Playing ball with each other!” Hanako gleefully leans towards Satoshi and Pikachu after seeing their bond.

“Uh, yeah! We are! So, Pikachu, let's say goodbye to the people at Pallet House!” Satoshi picks up Pikachu while holding Pikachu's arm to wave, causing Pikachu to growl and furrow his eyes.

“PIKACHU!” Pikachu yells while causing an electric shock starting with Satoshi, spreading onto Hanako and Professor Oak as the duo are spreading it onto the people in the restaurant, causing the whole restaurant to scream.

In the end, everybody collapses apart from Satoshi and Professor Oak.

“I think it's for the best that you should use rubber gloves… They stop conducting electricity, meaning you'll be safe with them…” After Professor Oak gives a tip, he falls along with the people.

“Y- Yeah… Noted…” Satoshi understands and then collapses.

This causes Pikachu to laugh after seeing what he did to the people in Pallet House.

In the end, this had Satoshi preparing for his very first journey.

Later.

Putting on his gloves, his jacket, his cap and backpack, Satoshi has changed into his trainer getup, ready to begin his adventure.

Something extra is rubber gloves and a rope that ties Pikachu up like a leash, so it could prevent Pikachu from electrocuting him.

In the end, Satoshi is leaving Pallet House as he waves to his mother.

“I'm off! Bye, mom!”

“Bye, Satoshi! I hope you contact me when you enter Viridian City!” Hanako waves to her son, bidding him farewell.

Afterwards, Satoshi grunts while dragging Pikachu out of Pallet Town, meaning their journey has begun, making Satoshi the official Pokémon trainer.
