Chapter Text

North was placing a long stocking cap on Jack’s head as Bunny rolled his eyes. It was Christmas Eve, with just a few minutes left until the annual sleigh’s flight.

As the yetis were hauling in the bag full of presents into the back of the sleigh, Bunny sniffed in disapproval. “I don’t know mate, but I feel something weird is going to happen tonight.”
“You just feel that way because it isn’t Easter.” Jack replied back smugly, earning a proud look from North. “Besides, why are you even here at the Pole? I’ve never heard about the Easter Bunny supervising Christmas.”

North’s face scrunched up in realisation. “You are right Jack. Why are you here Bunny?”

“Because,” the pooka grumbled, crossing his arms. “Christmas is going to be twice the trouble now, with you involving Jackie here.”

North waved Bunny off, asking, “What do you think I am- a bad influence?”

“Obviously. Both of you like to bounce chaotic ideas off each other. I’m just making sure you don’t start the night off with stupidity. I don’t want to end up having to fish the frost terror out of a chimney.”

“Aw, Bunny. Really, where would I be without you?” Jack cooed, petting the pooka’s head. Bunny’s ears turned red and flattened. “I promise to be extra good. North took me off the naughty list, so I’m starting clean.”

“Yeah, right.” Bunny muttered, watching his two friends climb into the sleigh. “Listen here North. Remember, no funny business. If I hear one stroke about a sleigh crash or you letting Snowflake eat as many cookies as he wants, I’ll get Tooth to come down and give you heat about teeth.”

“Yes, yes, I get it. Stop being negative, or I might put you on naughty list!” North joked. As the yetis opened the gated doors, North cracked the reins. His reindeer pulled the sleigh forward, with Jack in the back seat blowing pretend kisses goodbye at the glaring pooka.

“So, what’s with the whole ‘Ho ho ho’ thing people say you do? I have never heard you laugh like that.” Jack commented as they arrived at the first city.

“Ich, long story.” North shook his head with a shiver. Then, he looked down. He pointed to a nearby house below. “See Jack? First house!”

With a messy descent, they touched down on the roof. North turned to the backseat of his sleigh and began rummaging through his sack of toys. “Since it is first house, it is extra special. We shall go in together.” North thought out loud.

“Yeah, about that-” Jack held his chin with thought.  Bunny was right about the chimney part. There was no way he was going through a tight tunnel full of soot. “You go through the chimney, and I'll just find a loose window to hop through.” With that statement, he climbed out of the sleigh and flew down to the nearest window.

With excitement, North gathered the address’ presents and jumped down the chimney.

As they met in the living room, North handed Jack a present. “In honour of first Christmas with me, you place first gifts.” Jack sheepishly took the presents in his arms and placed it lovingly on the tree’s skirt. He then stepped back, the two guardians now admiring the household’s Christmas tree.

While Jack was staring at the pretty lights, North spotted a plate of cookies and milk on a nearby mantle. He giggled, nudging Jack with his elbow. He took two cookies and handed one to the frost spirit. “Cheers,” He whispered playfully, as he took a bite from his.

Jack raised his cookie in a mock toast and bit into it. He began to chew, then stopped.

He felt like the gingerbread he was eating was vibrating in his hand and mouth. He held up his treat and peered closer at it. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. He shook his head and blinked.

“What is it?” North questioned.

“I don’t really know. It’s just- something about this cookie is funny.” Jack replied. “It’s like- shaking in my hand. It kind of feels like it’s zapping around in my mouth too.”

North gave out a loud howl.

“Ha! Very funny Jack!”

“No, I’m serious!”
“Must be excitement of first Christmas marathon!” With that statement, the cossack took the plate of food and dropped the remaining cookies into his coat pocket. He then picked up the cup of milk and downed it in a few gulps. He wiped his mouth with a smirk. “-Must not tell Tooth about tonight’s activities.”

“Santa?”

The two guardians jumped at the sound of a little child, realizing the amount of ruckus they were creating. They both scattered, Jack falling out of a nearby window as North clambered into a fireplace. As the cossack was shot back up toward the roof, a little girl came walking down the stairs.
