Chapter Text
*Beep! Beep! Beep!*
I try and reach for my alarm but it is too far away for me to turn it off from the position I am laying in. It takes some difficulty for me to get out of bed with me being in my third trimester but I manage. By the time I turn off the alarm clock, my head is pounding and my ears ringing.
The time on the alarm clock is half past six in the morning. Great. How the fuck am I going to handle working the night shift at Freddy's and do my college course? The sun filters through the curtains causing a golden hue to decorate a sliver of my room. I stare off into the distance, staring at nothing until I feel the food from last night sliver up my throat. I run to the bathroom to empty the contents.
My new morning routine is disrupted by someone knocking on my door. I open it after I finish brushing my teeth. It's Benjamin!
"Morning Krissy." He says in a light tone. I reply not in speech but in a tight hug. He hugs me back just as tight.
He walks inside and shuts the door. He loosens his hold on me and asks, "How have you been?"
"Alright except that I threw up this morning." He looks at me with a slight frown on his aging face. He helps into my wheelchair and slings my light rucksack over his shoulder and pushes me to college. We get to the canteen as there are not that many people there. He speaks with my course leader before checking on me before giving me my bag and leaving for work. I start biting the skin around my fingernails as my course leader takes a seat next to me.
"Hello. I'm Carl. Your course leader." The course leader pulls his hand out. I firmly shake his hand. "Kristen." His hand feels rough, like Benjamin's. We wait for the rest of my course to show up. They all show up five minutes before our day officially starts.
"Welcome students to level two health and social care. Follow me." Carl starts pushing me. I let him but only because I do not know where we will be going and I want to preserve my energy. Luckily, I does not take that long for us to get to our classroom. I put my hands on my lap and sigh in relief with the classroom being on the ground floor and not at the top floor. That would be hell.
He puts me behind a table close to his desk and the exit. A girl with strawberry blonde hair sits next to me. "Hey. What's your name?" I ask her.
"My name's Sophie. What's yours?" Her voice has a thick northern accent, not Jordie but not Scottish either.
"Mine is Krissy." We shake hands just as Carl starts his introduction to the course. He gets up to get our notebooks and pens out for us to write the important things that will be happening this year. He tells our group that we will need to do one hundred and fifty hours of work experience for the course. That's easy, I will just need to do one full day of work or maybe two a week to complete that. Thank goodness for already working a kids themed resturant.
The morning goes quickly, we get a tour of our college and how everything works. I make some friends from my course at lunchtime, they are Sophie, Kassy and David. Sophie has strawberry blonde hair, hazel eyes and is quite stylish. Kassy has black hair put up in an emo hairstyle with the make up to go along with the style, her eyes are blue, nearly grey in colour and she is wearing emo clothes as well. David has short brown hair, some stubble on his face, dark brown eyes and is wearing a red and black chequered shirt and black jeans.
In the afternoon, we get enrolled. It takes a long time but that is because the course before us was not finished by the time we arrived for our allotted time. We get to leave college after getting enrolled. Carl stops me before I leave.
"Kristen? I would like to talk to you before you leave." I reluctantly wait behind.
"Yes?" I say, questioning. I wrap my hands around my rucksack.
"If you cannot come in for the course for any reason," he gestures to my enlarged stomach, "Just contact me and I will give you the work so you can do it in your accomodation."
I put my head down, not used to people being considerate. "I- Thank you." I make my way back to my accomodation and take myself to bed so I have some energy for work tonight.
