Work Text:

Yoongi is sitting down at a table in the back of the restaurant for his lunch break when he gets a call from Jungkook. During the day they usually text when they have a free moment, so this call sends Yoongi into a panic.

“What’s wrong, Jungkook?” Yoongi asks immediately, his voice full of concern.

The sound of Jungkook’s laughter confuses him - Why is he laughing? - but it also calms him a bit.

“Nothing is wrong, Yoongi. I’m sorry if I worried you, but I’ve got something great to tell you!” Jungkook exclaims. “I want you to guess first.”

Yoongi lets out a sigh of relief, continuing to poke at the grape with his fork as he tries to think about what he might have to tell him. He knows that their son Jin had been asking for a puppy since the start of kindergarten when he first went over to his best friend Namjoon’s house and met their dog, so he imagines Jungkook sitting on the floor of their living room with a puppy in his lap, rubbing the dog’s ears. Or maybe Jungkook got a promotion at the newspaper he works at.

“What is it? Are we getting Jin a puppy?”

“No, but we should talk about that sometime soon since Christmas is coming up… Actually, I was talking to my mom earlier and she said that she’d like to babysit Jin on Saturday.” Jungkook tells him, going on when he hears his husband hum as a response, “So I told her that I’d call you when I got the chance and see what you thought.”

Yoongi finally eats the grape before speaking up again, “If I’m not mistaken, Saturday is our free night, right? Maybe we could let her watch him and we could go out. Spice up our relationship.” He suggests.

“Oh my God,” Jungkook mutters and he can imagine him hiding his reddening face which makes Yoongi chuckle. “Our relationship doesn’t need spicing up, we’re still young and have an active love life. Didn’t we just go out on a date night recently… When -”

“Right, it before Jin’s third birthday when Hoseok offered his and Taehyung’s babysitting services so they could prepare for when Jimin was born.” Yoongi cuts him off.

Jungkook gasps, “Fuck, really? I didn’t think it was that long ago.” He says and Yoongi can hear him snapping his fingers on the other side of the phone before continues, “Alright, I’m going to call my mom and take her up on her offer. We’re gonna go out on Saturday and have the time of our lives and stay up past ten.”

The minute Jungkook comes back into their bedroom Saturday night, Yoongi can tell he’s worried about something.

When he takes in what Jungkook is wearing, he feels slightly under dressed with only a pair of jeans and a t-shirt that was kind of old and had a hole near the collar compared to Jungkook’s tight jeans, white t-shirt and cardigan. He kisses Yoongi’s forehead before he goes over to their drawer to start rearranging around the items, trying to keep himself busy.

Yoongi gets off the bed and walks up to his husband, wrapping an arm around his waist, rubbing circles into his hipbone.

“You okay, Kook?” Yoongi asks.

Jungkook looks up at him as if he’s a deer caught in headlights, nodding his head.

“Of course I am, what makes you say that I’m not?” Jungkook asks.

“You seem worried about something and you’re rearranging around the stuff on our drawer and you’ve been taking a lot of interest in that cologne bottle.” Yoongi says. He turns a little more serious when Jungkook puts the cologne bottle down, “Hey, if you want we can just stay in and order pizza… We can still make it romantic somehow.”

Jungkook shakes his head, “No, I want to go out… It’s just… I feel bad because Saturday is usually our night to watch Jin’s favorite movie and what if my mom doesn’t play the movie for him?”

He removes his arm from his waist and starts to run his fingers through his already styled hair, messing it up slightly.

“I’m sure your mom is taking care of Jin well. If she raised an amazing person like you, I’m sure she can take care of Jin for a night.” Yoongi reassures.

“She’s only ever watched him for a few hours, not a full day and night! What if he’s miserable without us? We aren’t there to watch his favorite movie. Yoongi, what if he thinks we hate him?” Jungkook freaks out.

Yoongi tries his best to rub circles at his nape, Jungkook closing his eyes at the touch, taking a deep breath.

“I’m sure your mother has everything under control. If you’d like, you can call her just to make sure and reassure Jin we don’t hate him.” Yoongi suggests, “Then we will go from there and see what we want do to. As long as I’m with you, it will be fine with me.”

Jungkook opens his eyes, scrunching up his nose, “You’re only saying that because you want to get into my pants.” He says, “But I’ll be right back.”

He grabs his phone from off the nightstand and leaves their bedroom, Yoongi hearing Jungkook speaking to his mother. He doesn’t come back into the room until Yoongi is dozing off in the middle of their bed, the blankets up to his shoulders. Jungkook laughs at the scene after he looks at their clock; 9:27 PM. Shaking him awake, Yoongi rubs his eyes as he sits up in the bed but Jungkook is sitting next to him.

“My mom is playing the movie for Jin and she even made him his favorite dinner. I talked to him for a few minutes and he doesn’t hate us, he says he’s having a lot of fun over there even with my dad snoring like crazy. Thank God.” Jungkook says.

Yoongi smiles, putting a hand on Jungkook’s arm, sliding up and down.

“I told you he would be fine, but you should talk to your dad about that snoring. He will keep Jin up all night and then we will have a tired child tomorrow.” Yoongi replies.

“What do you want to do, Yoongi? I think I’m okay now if you want to go out.” Jungkook suggests.

Yoongi glances over at their clock and he nods his head, “Definitely. Let’s go out, I don’t care what we do as long as we’re up past ten, I’m okay.”

They end up at the bar they used to frequently go to when they had less money and were still a new couple making their way through college and starting their careers.

It’s when Jungkook begins to slur his words and find everything funny that Yoongi decides it’s best for them to go back home, calling for a cab. When they are being driven home, Jungkook whines and puts his head on Yoongi’s shoulder.

“But I want to spend time with my husband! It’s a night out by ourselves.. Let’s make the most of it.” Jungkook tries to say before breaking out into another fit of laughter, poking Yoongi’s thigh, “You’re my husband.” He says, looking up at Yoongi.

“Yep. And we’ve been married for seven years.” Yoongi states.

Jungkook smiles so bright that it makes Yoongi’s cheeks turn a shade of pink, but he blames it on the alcohol. His eyes begin to look a bit like he is going to cry, Yoongi tracing his jawline with a few of his fingers.

“Babe, what’s wrong?” Yoongi asks.

“I still can’t believe we’re married. I thought you were so cute when we first met at that restaurant you were working at and I was being a really tough customer and now we’re married and we have a son who is the cutest thing and has really amazing manners.” Jungkook hiccups, his fingers wiping away tears that he was surprised his husband was shedding. “And I know you may not express it all the time but I feel how much you love me. I love you so much..”

Yoongi founds his eyes were watering because Jungkook was never really emotional when he got drunk, he was always more loud and playful. He had to look away for a minute to blink back the tears that were about to come out, the cab driver parking right in front of their house.

Paying the cab driver, Jungkook wrapped his arm around Yoongi’s arm tightly as they walked up the curb of their house, Yoongi searching for the house key. They get into the house, making their way towards the kitchen and Jungkook sits down in one of the chairs at the counter while Yoongi prepares two glasses of water for both of them.

He hands one to Jungkook, who gulps most of it down immediately. Jungkook looks happy now that he has had water, tilting his head to the side and he extends his arms, confusing Yoongi, but he takes them anyway. He helps him stand up from the chair and Jungkook wraps his arms around Yoongi’s neck, swaying from side to side, Jungkook resting his head in the crook his husband’s neck, moving his hands around his husband’s waist.

After a few minutes of swaying together in the middle of their kitchen, Yoongi laughs and Jungkook lifts his head, looking confused.

“Did you have dancing with me in the kitchen in mind?” Yoongi asks, eyebrows raised. “Because if so, you’re so cheesy.”

“Hey, we’re both cheesy! Remember when our first fight and you felt so bad that we fought that you bought one of those big dessert cookies from the grocery store and you put ‘I’m sorry, Kookie’ on it?” Jungkook recalls with a playful smile.

Yoongi rolls his eyes, “I didn’t do that..” Yoongi denies, scoffing, trying to play it off because not too many people know about his cheesy side.

“Yeah, sure… The baker at the grocery store definitely knew my name and came all the way to my house to hand deliver it to me. It was quite delicious by the way.” Jungkook giggles.

“You’re drunk.” Yoongi mutters.

“I love you and your ways of trying to hide the fact you’re cheesy.” Jungkook mutters too.

“I love you too, Kook.” Yoongi mutters.

They are still swaying back and forth, something a little similar to their wedding dance because neither of them wanted to step on anyone’s feet, but Yoongi kisses Jungkook on the forehead.

They end up sleeping in past seven in the morning and it’s nearing eleven when something falling into the middle of the bed immediately wakes them up, causing Yoongi to sit up screaming before they realize it’s Jin jumping up and down in the middle of the bed, yelling good morning to both of them. He’s happy and just seeing how excited he is to be back with his parents make them both smile.

“Where’s grandma, Jin?” Jungkook asks, eyes still trying to focus.

“She’s downstairs, she wanted to make sure you guys were here before she left.” Jin explains.

Jungkook nods his head, excusing himself. He’s rubbing his forehead as he makes his way downstairs, in his pajama bottoms and tank top, Jin hugging Yoongi tightly.

“Papa, I missed you! Guess what me and grandma did to grandpa? We put whip cream on his hand and then put a feather under his nose so he would go to itch his nose and he got whip cream all over his face! It was so funny, papa!” Jin exclaims.

Yoongi ends up laughing so loud that it makes Jin laugh himself, watching his son sit down next to him and cover himself up with the blankets.

“Did you know daddy did that to Uncle Taehyung in college? They had a huge fight and he was angry at Uncle Taehyung so he ended up doing that one night when he was asleep.” Yoongi mentions.

“But papa… Why did daddy do that to Uncle Taehyung?” Jin sounds so surprised at learning this new fact about Taehyung and Jungkook.

“Because at the time daddy thought papa was cute and Uncle Taehyung wanted to ask me out, so they ended up fighting about it.” Yoongi shrugs his shoulders, “But if they hadn’t argued, then papa wouldn’t have daddy and Uncle Taehyung wouldn’t have Uncle Hoseok.”

Jungkook appears in their bedroom again, a small smile on his face and he looks a more awake now.

“I thanked my mom for watching him and she said she wants to do it again sometime soon so I told her we would talk about it.” Jungkook says.

Jungkook gets settled back in the bed, sitting up against the headboard and grabs Jin, putting him in his lap and hugging him.

“And what about you, little guy? Do you wanna spend another night over at grandma and grandpa’s?” Jungkook asks.

Jin’s eyes light up and he starts clapping, “Yeah! Daddy, we had so much fun! We watched my favorite movie, grandma made my favorite dinner and we played pranks on grandpa!” He exclaims.

Jungkook’s eyes widen, looking over at Yoongi, a questioning gaze and Yoongi smiles at him.

“You played pranks on grandpa?”

“Yep!” Jin exclaims, “So me and grandma…”

Jin tells Yoongi and Jungkook about how they played multiple pranks on Jungkook’s dad, who snored so loudly he kept Jin up but then his mom gave him some warm milk and he had fallen asleep, dreaming about getting a puppy just like Namjoon’s. (This might be true or to remind them he wants a puppy.) Then he helped grandma make pancakes while grandpa made the coffee but told Jin he couldn’t drink it, he was too young but maybe when he was older.

Yoongi sits back against the headboard and thinks to himself: this is nice. Lying in bed on a Sunday morning with his husband and son, who is excitedly telling them about his night with his grandparents is fun. He feels so lucky, so happy.. It’s more than he ever thought he could have and he’s glad that he’s built such a good life with Jungkook, a man he never thought he’d be so fortunate to be with, led alone married to and raising a son with.

But here Jungkook and Jin are, next to him, Jin is holding his favorite stuffed animal. He really is lucky.

Maybe Jungkook was right last night, he was cheesy.

Notes:

"write a sugakookie drabble with them dancing in the kitchen in the middle of the night," i said to myself.
"it won't take too long," i said to myself.
i did not expect it to be this long or what it is but i'm very proud of it. :) inspired by a gifset my sister sent me for another couple but i decided that since i've been falling in love with this ship recently, i would try out this ship.
i hope you enjoy reading this! <3
