Work Text:
Where was it? She'd asked Shinji to get some milk. And it wasn’t front and center in the fridge. Gott verdammt! Could he follow instructions just for one—
Oh.
The carton was behind some other crap he'd bought. Whatever.
Asuka yanked the container out and set it on the countertop. It was late. Very late. Middle of the night late.
She'd need to be up to inhale whatever Shinji ends up making for breakfast in just a few hours to charge for what would surely be a dreadful school day. The slob was gone—who knows when she'd be back. Maybe after school. Maybe not. She was probably out having fun with Kaji.
Bleh.
Asuka poured some milk into a glass, filling it up about halfway. No, two thirds. That'd be the perfect amount for the mixture. She snagged the blue can she'd already brought from the stash in her room. The glorious red, white, and blue circular logo.
Asuka intended to get fucked up on some pilk.
She loved it. And she'd not been able to get her fix since arriving in Japan… as her imported order of Pepsi hadn't arrived until recently. She hadn't been able to find any of the wonderful soda in this hellish city.
She popped the tab on the can… slowly, so that it wouldn't wake Shinji up… and started to pour some into the glass with the milk. It was incredible. As always. Illuminated solely by the refrigerator’s internal light, Asuka watched the soda swirl into the milky white, as picturesque as the night sky after they'd killed that spider thing.
She set the milk back on the fridge shelf, then reached out with her leg to swat the door closed. She began to lift the glass to her lips. Her pilk parched tongue positively ached.
So… close… to relief...
“Asuka?”
She jumped back in shock as the boy rounded the corner into the kitchen, and she accidentally dropped the glass to the floor. It shattered absolutely fucking everywhere. Pilk—absolutely fucking everywhere. Her secret: absolutely fucking everywhere.
Shinji stared back at her in an astounded state of his own, clearly trying to figure out what he'd walked in on.
“You fucking idiot! Look what you made me do!” she screeched.
“Me!? What did I do? What is this?” His eyes scanned around the room, as he'd found the switch for the overhead light.
There was no point trying to hide it. For as much as she called him one, Shinji wasn't so big of an idiot as to not be able to tell the obvious. She'd been about to indulge in her one and only vice in this forsaken world.
She was a freak for pilk, and she'd tried to keep it under wraps, but her hand had been forced.
“Pilk! Gott verdammt! I was trying to drink pilk! It's my favorite! Alright! Now fuck off back to your room so I can pour another glass!” Suddenly, her brain struck gold. “Better yet, clean this mess up so I don't have to!”
Shinji's brow had raised as she'd yelled. “Asuka… What's pilk?”
No. Way.
How did he not know? Sure, she hadn't found any Pepsi in the shops around… but was he really that clueless?
“Pilk. Sound it out. Pepsi. Milk. Pilk.” She ripped open the fridge again, carefully stepping around the disaster on the floor, and set everything up to pour herself another glass.
Shinji had gone into the bathroom to grab some towels. He got to work cleaning as she worked to fix her aching taste buds.
Pepsi into the milk again, the delightful swirl again, and up to her mouth again.
This time, she was freed. Released from her Earthly coil. Ascended to the heavens as the pilk washed over her. Millions of humans on the planet, millions more who'd lived in history—and she happened to live in the same era as pilk. It was absurd how high she was taken.
Until her gaze drifted downward, bringing her right back, as she saw Shinji staring up at her.
“Um… Can I try some?”
She pitied him. The pilkless. Perhaps he could be saved.
She handed the now barely half full glass out to him. He'd risen up to accept it. “Here. Don't waste it,” she said.
He took it from her. Very carefully. Slowly. Shinji lifted it to his own lips and sipped.
Asuka saw his pupils brighten. A soul enlightened. She didn't need him to say a word about it. She could tell plain as the grass was green that he was enjoying it.
And that made her unspeakably happy. Still, she had to ask, if only for the extreme personal satisfaction it'd bring her upon hearing him praise the pilk.
“Well? How do you feel?”
He finished off the glass. “That was… awesome…” He set it down on the table next to him. “Can… uh… can you make more?”
Asuka grinned at him. Could she make more? That was like asking Misato if she could put down a beer in 10 seconds flat.
“Of course I can.”
So she did.
They reveled in pilk till the sunrise came. They didn't go to school that day.
When Misato finally found them later in the evening, they were all over each other, bathing together in the tub which had been entirely filled with the divine liquid.
They'd gotten more supplies. Shinji just so happened to know a specialty shop on the other side of town where they could get more Pepsi. Asuka had rebuked herself for not searching harder. Though having someone on her side had worked out, after all. Additional milk was no problem to acquire.
Asuka hadn't cared for Misato's presence by the time she'd found them. Their guardian didn't seem to care either, as after having peeked her head into the tub room, she’d simply shook it while announcing she'd brought home dinner.
The pilk had softened her spiny heart.
If she could bask in the bountiful pleasures of pilk with Shinji, she believed she could do anything with him. No Angel would stand in their way.
And it seemed as though he felt the same, as he'd not questioned her intent at all when she'd proposed the idea to bathe in it alongside her.
She nestled against his body, smiling larger than she ever had prior to sharing her penchant for pilk with another.
She felt his arm pull her in tighter, and he kissed her forehead. “Asuka,” he started, “I think… No. I know that… I love you.”
Asuka nudged even further into him, kissing his neck. “I… I love you too, Shinji.”
Thanks to the pilk, he was hers, and she was his.
