Work Text:
They were at Didi’s apartment tonight, they both were tired and had decided to forego their plan of going out for dinner and the cinema to see a movie Didi has been begging Julie to watch with her. Instead Didi offered to cook dinner at her place so they could call it an early night to catch up on some much needed sleep.
“Do you want some tea?” Didi asked as she looked through her cupboards to collect the ingredients she needed. “Yes, please.” Julie smiled at her across the counter. Didi turned around to ask her what kind of tea she wanted but stopped in her tracks, watching Julie put her blazer back on. “What are you doing?” she asked confused. “I was cold, so I’m putting my blazer on.”
Didi eyed her up and down. Julie was sitting at her kitchen counter, shoes off but she was still wearing black slacks and the fitting black blazer with a dark green silken blouse. Didi slowly walked around the counter. “You know you can just ask me for a sweater, yes?” she asked, looking at the other woman, who’s gaze changed, she could tell she was thinking about what she had just said. “I did not think about that.” She flatly stated.
Julie had noticed that she started to feel more and more comfortable around Didi’s apartment. And yes, she never brought specific clothes to sleep in because she liked sleeping in one of Didi’s shirts. Not just because it was more convenient but more because they made her feel closer to the woman, the sent of laundry detergent and what she could simply describe as ‘Didi’ that touched her nose in the slightest way every time the fabric moved gave her so much comfort that she tried to keep them on as long as possible in the mornings. Still, she had never considered asking Didi for a sweater or anything else when she stayed over, maybe also because this was the first night they actually planned to relax and spent the night on the couch in front of the TV.
They have been seeing each other for nearly three weeks now and she actually preferred staying at the other woman’s apartment. In contrast to hers it was cozy, smaller, yes, but it looked and felt more lived in, she could spot ‘Didi’ everywhere. In the decorations, the colours and textures of the furniture and accessorising décor. Julie had started to leave more and more things around the apartment. Not on purpose at first. It started with dirty clothes she forgot one morning, that Didi offered to throw in the wash so she would have something clean the next time she stayed over. By now she had two or three work outfits and some underwear in Didi’s closet. After ten days she had left some shampoo and conditioner in Didi’s shower and another two days later some mascara and concealer on a shelf in the bathroom. Each time she stayed overnight she secretly added another item to the bathroom shelf.
“You know you can just leave everything you need here, you don’t need to do it piece by piece, so you don’t need to worry about bringing everything every time, yeah? Or just tell me what you need, and I’ll put it on my shopping list.” Didi had told her a few days ago after Julie had forgotten her face crème when she stayed the night. Mysteriously a tub of her face crème had turned up on the shelf the next day. Julie had not put it there and when she opened it, it was brand new. She did not know until then that such a tiny gesture could make her feel so many things.
Didi still looked at Julie, who didn’t say anything further, she seemed to be lost in thoughts. “You know you look really hot in those suits, and I could just look at you all day, but I’m sure you would be more comfortable in one of my sweaters, also they are warm and perfect for cuddling on the couch later.” Didi smiled as she traced the edge of the lapel on Julie’s blazer. “If you’re more comfortable in your clothes that’s fine, I just want to offer you something else, if you want it.” Julie smiled at her now, she was probably right. “I’ll take a sweater.”
“Come on.” Didi said, taking Julie’s hand and guiding her to her bedroom. “Just so you know, you are always allowed to just open my closet and put on a sweater or some sweatpants whenever you want. I want you to be comfortable here because I like having you at my place.” The Latina said as she looked through her sweaters and pulled out a thick dark blue one. She picked out a shirt that Julie could wear as a sleeping shirt as well and handed both to the woman she was dating. “Here.” She smiled. “Do you want some sweatpants, as well?” Julie nodded. “Thank you.” She mumbled as she took the clothes Didi had offered her.
When she returned to the kitchen, she hugged the other woman from behind, pressing a kiss to the woman’s shoulder. “Do you feel comfortable?” Didi asked already knowing the answer. She had noticed that Julie was a woman of actions, rather than words, but she also noticed that Julie opened up more and more. “Yes, thank you. This is really comfortable.” She said, squeezing the other woman tight.
Julie was already sat on the couch, one leg tucked under the other, a soft blanket draped over her lap. She skipped through the streaming app looking for something to watch. Didi entered and stopped in her tracks, leaning against the doorframe to take in the sight in front of her. “You look really adorable in my clothes. How come this is the first time I got you to put on something comfortable to actually relax?” She smiled. “Well, usually my clothes don’t stay on for long when I’m around you, you can’t keep your hands to yourself, Deborah.” Julie said without looking up. “Fair enough.” Didi laughed and started walking over to the couch. “but like I said, you look hot in your suits, so I’m not to blame.” She grinned as she sat down and cuddled into Julie’s side. Immediately she yawned, leaning impossibily closer into the woman next to her, who immediately put her arms around her. Neither of them was able to stay awake long, soon they were fast asleep, cuddling under the blanket.
Two days later Didi was greeted by Julie at her apartment door wearing a very familiar sweater, a look on her face that screamed ‘child knowing it did something it was not supporsed to’. Didi had noticed the sweater Julie was wearing didn’t make it to her laundry basket and wasn’t lying around anywhere, so she assumed Julie had nicked it. She was not mad, who doesn’t like wearing something from their partner to feel close to them. Didi suspected that Julie was expecting a joke about the situation, but she just smiled to herself, not wanting to mock her for something she found incredibly adorable. “You look cute.” Was all she said before greeting her with a soft kiss.
Over the next few weeks she noticed a few more of her sweaters had ‘disappeared’ after Julie had worn them in the evenings and she loved everything about it, Julie was giving in to her soft side around her.
“I was wondering where that sweater went.” Didi smiled when Julie spontaneously came by her apartment to stay the night. Originally they had planned on spending the evening apart, Julie had gone for a run earlier and Didi had gone to dinner with a friend but had asked if Julie wanted to come by later and stay the night.
Julie looked down on herself she was wearing a fluffy striped jumper she stole from Didi’s closet and some leggings she had thrown on after taking a shower. She looked caught for a second, but then she shrugged stepping inside the apartment. “Well, I missed you and your sweater was the closest thing to a hug from you.” She quickly stepped closer, not daring to look Didi in the eyes and hugged her tight. “Who knew Julie Kovalenko could be this corny.” Didi chuckled putting her arms around the slightly smaller woman. “Shut up and just hug me.” Didi pulled her even closer as Julie hid her face in her neck out of embarrassment.
“I think it’s incredibly cute what you just said, Julie. I didn’t mean to mock you but sometimes you surprise me with how adorable and raw you can be under that tough surface. Please keep saying whatever comes to your mind out loud.”
They were a few month into their relationship by now and Julie took full advantage of Didi’s closet. Didi shot a quick text to Julie as she did her laundry, looking at the last 3 remaining sweaters in her closet.
Babe, I really love seeing you in my sweaters but please leave some for me to wear.
There was a quick reply. A photo of Julie, who would’ve guessed it, in one of Didi’s sweaters, lounging on her couch with a book in her lap.
Nope :) If you want them back you need to come here and get them...
