Work Text:
“I think we’ve finally made some progress,” Joan said as she saved the file.
“I hope you don’t run into too much pushback from the hospital executives,” Kerry said, heading to the hallway..
“Well, they’re paying my bills here, either way,” Joan laughed. “I’m careful with my contracts.”
Joan put her computer into her bag and walked to the door.
“Are you flying out tomorrow?” Kerry asked as they walked down the hall.
“After my first trip out here, I knew better than to make my visit too short. I’ll have a full day tomorrow.”
“That’s smart. And you never know about the weather, especially this time of year.”
They stepped outside, and were greeted by thick, blowing snow.
“As you were saying,” Joan laughed. “I think I’ll take a cab.”
“Let me call one for you. We keep tabs on which companies are reliable. Some of them will try to drive you all over the place, but we give them a talking to if we find out they’re doing that to our patients.”
“Thank you, yes, I appreciate that.”
Joan looked around. The lobby still had a few Christmas decorations up, even though it was already January.
“They said the driver will be here in five minutes,” Kerry told her.
“Thank you so much,” Joan replied, still looking at some decorations in the corner.
“Noticing the festive decor?” Kerry asked.
“When does the holiday usually take down the decorations?” Joan asked.
“Sometime after New Years,” Kerry laughed. “Usually before Valentine’s Day, at least.”
A cab pulled up, and the snow swirled around the lights.
“Thank you, again,” Joan said, shaking Kerry’s hand.
“If I don’t see you tomorrow, keep in touch!”
