Work Text:
Jackie knocked on the door. He slowly opened it to see Robbie there, sitting among thread and loose skin. Before, that had grossed all of them out. Now though, now all Jackie saw was just part of Robbie. Something that happened once in a while.
He sat himself beside the zombie. Robbie slowly turned to face Jackie. The stitches that held Robbie's cheek in place were loose, letting the bone of his skull show. Jackie quietly picked up a needle & some thread, helping Robbie.
Robbie held still, letting Jackie fix the stitching. At some point, the two had gotten into this habit. Jackie didn't mind. He liked these quiet moments. It felt peaceful, intimate.
Jackie cut the thread and tied it off carelly once he was done. Jackie then moved to the other loose patch he saw on one of Robbie's hands. The zombie leaned against the hero as he stitched.
Once Jackie was finished, Robbie stayed leaning against the hero. The two stayed there, listening to each other breathe. Or… moreso Robbie listening to Jackie breathe while he tried to copy. Jackie had told Robbie multiple times he didn't need to "act alive". As far as Jackie was concerned, Robbie was alive enough. A still heart didn't mean it couldn't feel.
"Thank you," Robbie finally said, sitting up.
"No trouble," Jackie gave a soft smile.
The two sat in silence for a moment before Robbie stood up. Jackie stood with him. The two's hands silently found each other as they left the room.
