Weird questions and normal responses

Summary:

After a high stress mission, Lucas is finally ready to declare his love for Ezra. It goes better and faster than he expected

Notes:

Hi! This is an original dnd campaign that I played that I decided to post my very self indulgent fics finally. There's not at lot of context to what's going on, but if you like clinking your ocs together like dolls making them kiss, your in the right place!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Lucas Wexler needed to do it. He needed to kiss Ezra Talis. She had looked so perfect back even when the building was burning down, and yet had said nothing. Countless stressed faces were around him, yet the only face he was interested in was hers. Then he watched her shatter. Ezra had flown out of his grip towards the man that looked like her, and Lucas had to stop himself from running. She had been sprinting, always out of his reach. But now she was right here, in front of him. They were alone. Well, as alone as one could be on the Everlark: Lydia heard everything through the vents, Mcgee was always sneaking around somewhere, and the director found everything eventually. Ezras braid was a little loose, but the strands of green hair slipping out made her even more beautiful. The moment seemed fragile, but he knew what he had to do.
“I just,” Ezra stumbled over the words. She was fiddling with her fingers. She looked over at him, her eyes soft.
“I don't want to run from you”. Lucas’s stomach fluttered. There was a moment of silence. They were just standing there, looking out the window into the vast abyss of space. He took a step towards her with a deep breath.
“Can I ask you a weird question?” Ezra looked up at him, watching. Waiting.
“Yeah,” she said smallly. He couldn't even stop himself from smiling.
“Can I kiss you?” Ezra's face went blank, and he could feel his own face burning up. Blush dusted her face. She nodded, muttering yeah. He leaned down, lifting her chin up. His stomach dropped to his feet as their lips met. It was only for a moment, but he held her neck, Ezra gripping onto his biceps. Heat bubbled inside him. When they pulled back, both of them were giggling and smiling.
“I've wanted to do that for a while,” Lucas breathlessly admitted. Ezra didn't even wait. Instead, she wrapped her arms around his neck, jumping up to kiss him and Lucas caught her and held her, holding her at her waist. They were both trying to say things, mutters cut off by kisses. Lucas spun her around, and he could feel her lips quirk up against him as she laughed. He had wanted to kiss her at the party when she had looked beautiful, or maybe when it was all burning down. But now was the perfect moment. No one walked in on them. The sweet kisses turned more desperate. When Ezra finally pulled back, panting and with her braid falling even more apart, she was smiling weakly.
“We will find your uncle,” he assured.
As if they hadn't just been making out, Ezra was flustered just like before.
“I'm exhausted,” she admitted, curling up into a hug. Lucas chuckled.
“Yeah, we need rest”.
“Could you…” Ezra tightened up before sinking into him, “stay with me for the night?” Lucas’s insides melted even more, and he nodded. She laughed a bit before lacing her fingers in between his, and Lucas blushed a lot. She ran over to her bunkbed, leading Lucas. She was slow, not rushing him. When she pulled back her blanket, she froze, turning back to him.
“Is this too much?” she asked. Lucas was flustered, but slowly nodded. She immediately closed her eyes as she slammed down, and for a moment he stood there, unsure whether or not she was really OK or if it was just the adrenaline from their first kiss. She wasn't asleep yet, and looked back at him. She must've sensed his worry because her smile softened. Lucas took a steady breath, and climbed in. Ezra's bed was actually pretty comfy, and he felt her fold into him as she latched on like a leech of affection. Soon, they both fell asleep, Lucas fully spread like a starfish with Ezra latched onto him. Her legs were intertwined with his, and he had one arm as a pillow for her as he raked her braid through his hands. She put her arm over him, reaching across to his other arm as her breathing became steadier.
The call of Ezra's name jolted them both awake, but just barely. Ezra groaned, and she felt more timid as he looked up at her with sleepy eyes, the soft hum of the Everlark lulling them to just fall back asleep. She rubbed his hand.
“I'll be right back”, she muttered, getting up and leaving Lucas to realize just how much warmth they had given each other while they were asleep. For a moment, he wondered if she had run off as he heard the mumble of speech. Soon enough however, Ezra came back in, curling up into his embrace. Deep down, he knew it was the exhaustion and crashing adrenaline causing them to be like this, but he didn't mind the way she listened to his heartbeat or the way he undid her braid lazily. Ezra looked so peaceful asleep. She looked less like someone who had taken care of orphans all her life and just like how a girl her age was supposed to look. Through half closed eyes, Lucas thought both versions of her were dazzling. They slowly fell asleep. The next mission might have been where everything would change, but that didn't matter right now. What mattered was how loved both of them felt.
