Thoughts Before Battle

Summary:

Thoughts of Saparata and Fluixon leading up to the battle to end a war.

Notes:

Wrote this cause i dont think ive read/see a fic with saps and flux's thoughts before fighting each other. Always way before or a cut to when theyre fighting and angst when flux dies or smth. this fic was also def no written at 12AM as well as legitimately my first ever fic. Sorry if dialogue and stuff is OOC i dont even know anymore.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Saparata whispers to you Meet at colo?

You whisper: I’ll be there.

Fluixon did not know exactly what compelled him to drag his burnt and chard body towards this stupid white smiley guy. Suffering a drop from deadly height into a pool of blistering fresh lava from a volcano trying to escape an arguably deadlier battlefield and all that. By all logic from anybody ever he should just run! He and his goons already made an escape tunnel– he’s running away, why on the 2 islands is he going back to a colosseum deep within the hearth of Yggdrasil? Yet he complied, he gazed towards his last remaining henchman and told him: “We have to be at the colosseum in Westhelm.”

“He’s missing?”

“Hold on.”

Saparata looked upon the carnage within the volcano and turned away. It’s almost ironic how the landmark Infernus built itself and the religion upon it was being used in such a way. Arguably, by their fault as well. Heavily, he turned to his companions: “I feel like… Flux and I should be the ones to end this.” He looked over at the edge of his viewing point and waited. “Come on…” He looked back. “Alright guys let’s go.”

“Why are we going to Westhelm?”

“Saps is meeting me there for a duel”

“...to the death?”

“of course.”

The trek to Westhelm was filled with questions he knew the answers to. But, at the same time, refused to acknowledge these answers as the truth. He wanted a different explanation on why he was going back on himself. A master plan to get rid of the last loose end! The last person to know what truly happened by their own eyes. However, the ugliest or most beautiful truth was that Fluixon and Saparata are still friends. So, was this upcoming fight to the death a way of rectifying his mistake? The mistake of accidentally keeping your enemy alive? The mistake of sparking this friendship just to make plans to take advantage of his trust? Or a way to make amends. To die to the hands of the man he betrayed the most.

“Where are we going to exactly?”

“The colo in Westhelm.”

“But why? Flux just escaped the volcano?!”

“Flux is meeting me there for a duel.”

“To the death?!”

“Yup.”

The trek to Westhelm was filled with questions he knew the answers to. Regrettably, he acknowledged these answers as the truth. Saparata and Fluixon are friends. Which is why he himself challenged him to a duel in the first place. Saparata wanted a fair fight to the end. Unlike the unfairness he had to deal with himself because of that purple guy. Why did everything have to be so unfair to him in particular? To no one agreeing with Flux in the first meeting in Pandora resulting in Saps getting stuck in the crossfire for more meetings. To the actual betrayal and everyone hunting him down with barely any evidence and the rigged trial… twice? where the man who took him in to protect him died. Just so unfair. He could easily skip the fair fight and beat him up with the people walking beside him. But he wanted this duel fair. Because Fluixon was his friend.

“It seems like we've come before Saps.”

“Well yeah… but, why did you even agree to this duel in the first place?”

The pair climbed up to the stone stands surrounding the main circular arena. Fluixon turned toward his henchman.

“Because we're friends.”

The circular stone and wooden arena finally came to a close view after what seemed like forever.

“Nothing’s probably going to change your mind. But why did you ask Flux for a duel anyway?”

The almost dozen people who came to observe huddled just behind Saparata moments from reaching the entrance to the colosseum.

“Because we’re friends.”

Saparata then mentally prepared as he walked in the entrance.

What laid ahead: Both life and death.

Notes:

Formatting on a phone actually ragebaiting me so hard omg.
Alt dialogue that I scrapped last minute w Thomas & Flux cause it was OOC AS HELL and accidentally Fluxrata but funny lol:

“It seems like we've come before Saps.”
“Well yeah… but why did you even agree to this duel in the first place?”

The pair climbed up to the stone stands surrounding the main circular arena. Fluixon turned toward him.

“Because we're friends.”
"But we're also friends... would you do this to me or is Saps special to you or something?"
"uh."
"no."
"You're just not cool enough."
"WHAT?!"

anyway genuinely hope to the person who reads this that this was cool and coherent (very awesome adjectives btw)
