Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Prologue

She could hear something but was unsure what. It sounded like a song. A very guttural song, coming deep within the throat, a song with no words. Perhaps, a song with words only the singer can decipher. As her eyes came into focus, she saw bright bursts of color twirling around. A dance as old as time. Their routine seems to last forever but yet so briefly is finished. As droplets of cold water touch her face, she closes her eyes again. Listening to the music, finally understanding her place. Her way was paved by many before her. She will not be the last.

A girl of no more than 11 years old opens her eyes. The young woman in her dream looks far too similar to her to be a coincidence. The people in her dream looked like pictures of Native Americans from across the pond. That girl in her dream could have been her twin. Except she had only ever been in the UK and the landscape was one she was unfamiliar with.

She was always praised for her book smarts. But this was something she didn’t even know where to start to look. She felt conflicted asking her parents. She could already do things that they could not. She had to be home-schooled because of what she could do. She frightened the other children. Now, it was dreams of a land where a twin was at.

Her parents never treated her differently and loved her so. Spoiling her even with any whim she had. Her differences never made them love her less and for that she was constantly grateful. She was conflicted with telling them about more things that set her apart from them.
