Work Text:
The Shiratorizawa third years had finally graduated. School was finished.
Wakatoshi Ushijima had already been scouted by the Schweiden Adlers and would start training with them next year.
Life was good.
He was leaving the stage with his friends after the ceremony had ended, trying not to get lost in the crowd of the bustling students also exiting, when he heard his mother call his name.
Turning, he saw her waiting for him to approach her, standing with other parents around her.
Once he got closer and his view wasn’t obstructed, Ushijima noticed that there was a man standing next to her.
He went unrecognised at first, but the way he was looking at the boy made Ushijima think that he should know him somehow.
Then, it clicked.
Ushijima was only a young boy the last time he saw that man, his face differentiating from its original features slightly in his mind.
But, despite the beard along the man’s jawline, it was still the same person.
It was still his father.
Ushijima’s eyes widened in shock once he saw him, tears beginning to build behind his eyes. The older man smiled, and Ushijima wasted no time as he wrapped his arms around his father, burrowing his face into his neck.
“Dad.” He said, although it came out more as a sob. He felt his father’s grip on him tighten, a hand rubbing his back.
Once they pulled back, more tears had fallen down Ushijima’s face. He tried to wipe them away discreetly with his sleeve.
Takashi looked back at his son’s friends and smiled, pleased at how happy they looked for their friend.
Looks like he found those reliable teammates, he thought.
