Work Text:
Idol life isn’t easy, everyone can probably agree with that. But lately it’s been really kicking TXT’s butts.
They wake up, get in the company’s van and stop at several places. At the company to record or practice, a set for a photo shoot, sometimes even the airport to go to the U.S for the millionth time that year. And if they’re lucky, they get back home at midnight.
But the second each member steps through the door, all they can think about is crashing onto a soft surface and sleeping for the next ten years which causes them to completely ignore the concept of dinner.
Tonight is certainly no exception.
Today was a bit merciful on them, it was 12:06 when they got home. Soobin and Kai immediately crashed and Taehyun went to go take a shower.
That left Yeonjun and Beomgyu which were searching the kitchen for something that’d take 5 minutes max to make. Alas, all the instant ramen was gone.
So they decided to take one for the team and go to the convenience store to stock up on food. At least they were getting some fresh air right?
They were now walking home, with both their hands occupied with bags full of snacks and drinks.
Beomgyu was the first to speak up. “Hyung, how much did we spend?”
“No clue. I was zoning out when he said the total.” The older replied
“No way it was less than a hundred.”
“Thats for sure.”
A silence fell over them. Too sudden to be comfortable but too familiar to feel awkward. These schedules have also made it harder for Yeonjun and Beomgyu to spend time together.
Sure, they lean on each others’ shoulders when they fall asleep in the dressing room in between performances, sit together in the van when they get the chance, fiddle with each others’ hands or hair to keep themselves awake, but this? Real alone time without staff or another member being in sight?
“Yeonjun?” The younger called out.
”Yeah?”
Beomgyu himself didn’t really know why he called out to the older. He just wanted to break the silence. ”I-I… Um.. How was your day?”
”Y’know same old same old. I got my hair dyed today though. I think this ‘oreo’ hair really suits me.” Yeonjun said. He shook his head a bit in an attempt to move some of his bangs the wind blew in his face.
”It does. I really like it.” Beomgyu agreed. The blonde and black really did suit Yeonjun, adding a charming contrast to his already handsome complexion.
“Thank you, Gyu. How about your day?” Yeonjun asked with a smile.
”Yeah, mine was the-“
The same. It’s been the same for two months now. Work. Work. Work. Schedule. Schedule. Schedule.
Promotions this, practice that. He knew that this idol stuff was hard since he was a trainee. He knew this packed schedule period comes along every now and then but shit, how long has it been since he slept in? Since he’s gotten to sit down and write some lyrics? Or just gotten to hang out with the members?
Wait. Beomgyu turned to look at the man beside him. How long has it been since him and Yeonjun went on a date? Had sex? Watched a movie together?
“Yeonjun.”
”Yeah?”
Beomgyu stopped in his tracks. “Yeonjun.”
Yeonjun realized Beomgyu wasn’t walking beside him anymore and quickly turned his head around to look at the boy.
”Beomgyu? What’s up?”
Beomgyu stood there silent for a moment before dropping the bags on the concrete. “I can’t take this anymore.”
Yeonjun stepped forward in confusion at the sudden declaration. “What? What’re you talking about, Gyu?
Beomgyu’s breath hitched. “I.. c-cant take this anymore.”
”Huh? What’re you talking about? You’re worrying me babe.”
Beomgyu’s gaze was glued to the floor. “H-Hyung.” He whimpered.
“Hey, Look at me.”
Beomgyu hesitantly obeyed. When he finally looked up at the older his vision was blurry. He sucked in a breath before he spoke.
”The schedules, the promotions, everything! I don’t have time to do anything anymore! I..” He trailed off before quietly continuing. “I-I barely have time to spend with you anymore..”
Yeonjun’s face never dropped so fast. He felt his heart take a blow from Beomgyu’s tearful words. The way he was looking at him like he was his only hope, that everything else had failed him, had set off something in Yeonjun. He immediately engulfed Beomgyu in a tight hug. One hand immediately coming to cradle the younger’s head against his shoulder.
A good and bad idea, depending on how you see it, since it caused Beomgyu to immediately crack. He muffled his sobs into Yeonjun’s shirt, holding him just as tightly as if the world would crash down on him if he didn’t.
Yeonjun knew how the younger felt. All the members did. If he was a less composed man he’d probably just let himself cry along with Beomgyu but he knew that wasn’t what the boy needed right now.
“I know, baby. I know” Yeonjun said as he carefully rubbed Beomgyu’s back.
They stayed like that for a few minutes, Yeonjun holding Beomgyu and whispering reassurances in his ear as he cried.
Until the street lamp that was ahead flickered. Yeonjun’s hand now started carding through the younger’s hair- wait the street lamp flickered? Yeonjun glanced around at his surroundings to realize that they were on the sidewalk. In public. A quarter til one in the morning.
He suddenly became very aware that this was not a good spot to have this heart-felt moment. I mean, it was late who knows what kind of danger there is lurking at this hour?
”Hey, Gyu?” Yeonjun started. He tried to sound as gentle as possible to not potentially freak Beomgyu out more.
”Let’s go home okay? We can talk there and I’ll hold you all night if you want me to.” The older begun to gently lift Beomgyu’s face along with wiping the tears sliding down his cheeks.
”I-I want to b-but it won’t s-stop.” Beomgyu said through hiccups. He was clearly referring to the fact that every time Yeonjun wiped a tear away, another fell from his eye.
He was still trembling even though most of the bigger sobs were gone, he was still in that hiccupy, sniffly state. Which definitely wasn’t gonna make him be able to walk another three blocks.
So, Yeonjun had to think of a better idea. They really should’ve just ordered something.
After a minute or two of looking around hoping he’d find some sort of way to get them back home until he had an idea.
He crouched down and picked up the bags that they dropped earlier in one hand before speaking again.
”Just hold on okay? I got you.” Yeonjun instructed which earned him a nod against his shoulder.
Yeonjun slid his hands under Beomgyu’s thighs slowly as to not startle him and lifted him up so he was carrying both the younger and the bags.
”This okay?” Yeonjun asked. Beomgyu let out an affirmative hum in response.
“Alright. Hang on, I’ll get us home soon.” As the older said that he began walking once direction of their dorm. He was walking slightly slower than normal, of course due to the 5’11 man he was carrying along. But hey, he wanted to work out his arms more anyway.
That’s how it was for the remaining way to their dorm. He noticed Beomgyu stopped crying a few minutes ago while they were walking. His hiccups became less frequent and the shaking slowly subsided. Even though, he didn’t have the heart to put him down and make him walk on his own. Nor did he want to.
“Beomgyu, we’re here.” Yeonjun said as they were finally outside their dorm building.
”O-Okay.. You can put me down now, I think ‘m okay.”
Yeonjun reluctantly lowered him down so he was standing on his own feet when Beomgyu looked up at him and said a quiet “Thank you, hyung.” His eyes were sparkling, either from the tears or the pure love when he looked up at Yeonjun.
“No problem.” Yeonjun said with a smile as a he ruffled the younger’s hair. A little too gentle to be considered a teasing gesture.
”Come on, let’s go inside.” Yeonjun beckoned.
”Wait.” Beomgyu said as he held the older’s sleeve before he could get far.
Yeonjun turned back to face Beomgyu, curious and a little concerned as to what might be the hold up.
“Hyung, even I-If we don’t really get to do anything anymore..Y-You still love me right?” Beomgyu asked timidly. He had no doubt Yeonjun loved him but in this state he still wanted the reassurance.
Yeonjun gently took the hand that was holding his sleeve and laced their fingers together before pressing a kiss on the boy’s knuckles. ”Of course I do. No crazy schedule is going to get in the way of us, Gyu.”
Before Beomgyu could stop it the words came tumbling out of him. “Yeonjun, I-I love you.. Like really really love you.”
Beomgyu’s declaration caused a genuine smile to creep up on Yeonjun’s face. He’d carry Beomgyu a million miles if it meant he’d get to hear those sweet words come out of the younger again.
”I really really love you too, Beomgyu.”
