Venora Iscandar Confirmed Dead
On 26 January 844, Survey Corps Governor Venora Iscandar (hereafter referred to as Venora) was tasked with leading the Survey Corps on its 40th Wall Expedition. During an operation to capture a Titan, Venora was subjected to a targeted attack by a 12-metre-class Abnormal Titan and tragically perished on the spot.
Faced with this shocking and heartbreaking news, our correspondent immediately conducted an exclusive interview with Survey Corps Commander Erwin Smith regarding the discrepancies surrounding this incident.
Despite enduring yet another devastating defeat, Erwin displayed no signs of despair or grief, maintaining his characteristic composure and poise. He stated that the entire Survey Corps deeply mourns Governor Venora's sacrifice and feels profound remorse, yet she made immense contributions to humanity's quest for knowledge about the Titans. She is a hero worthy of universal praise and remembrance.
Our correspondent conducted a one-hour interview with Erwin Smith. Excerpts from the transcript follow...

«Miss Jin's News Report»
Shock! Pavel Iscandar's illegitimate daughter Venora devoured by Titan!
Venora Iscandar was swallowed whole by a Quirky Titan during the 40th Wall Expedition!
As is widely known, two years ago the Iscandar family suffered a grave disgrace in the royal capital due to a serious crime. Venora, the fifth child of the Iscandar family and illegitimate daughter of Pavel, the family head, was assigned to the Survey Corps to serve as Governor.
The Survey Corps boasts the highest casualty rate, poorest welfare provisions, strictest military discipline, and lowest public approval rating among the three major corps. Yet our Pavel family head has always doted on this illegitimate daughter. Though he sent her to this harsh posting in a fit of pique, he granted her the nominal post of ‘Survey Corps Governor’—a position that pays a salary without requiring frontline combat or command duties.
Thus Miss Venora persisted in her vices: brazenly demanding vast sums of ‘military pay’ from superiors to purchase luxury goods; appropriating state military training grounds to construct cabarets and theatres; routinely verbally and physically abusing Survey Corps members; arbitrarily overstepping her authority to command military operations; and even audaciously challenging Captain Levi. Good heavens, her crimes within the Survey Corps are truly countless!
According to informed sources, beyond her widely known escapades in the royal capital—such as maintaining male favourites and publicly tearing the hair of the second daughter of the Fuchs family—Venora harbours numerous undisclosed secrets and jaw-dropping misdeeds!
It is said that Venora...

Survey Corps' 40th Wall Expedition Returns Empty-Handed – Corps Commander Venora Iscandar Killed in Action
On 26 January 844, the Survey Corps' 40th Wall Expedition concluded with 17 casualties and 39 wounded. The investigation yielded no progress, the capture of Titans failed, and Survey Corps Commander Venora Iscandar was killed in action.
«Military World», as a professional military publication serving the public, remains dedicated to sharing the latest military developments and weaponry intelligence. As a public-service newspaper serving all citizens within the Wall, we bear both the responsibility and obligation to voice the concerns of the populace regarding this incident. We hereby pose the following questions to senior military leadership within the Wall:
1. Given the lack of significant results despite substantial investment of manpower, resources, and time, should the Survey Corps' Wall-exterior reconnaissance operations continue? Please provide justification.
2. Why did Venora Iscandar, a Survey Corps Governor holding no substantive authority, possess command rights exceeding those of the Survey Corps Commander to direct military operations?
3. As an untrained civilian with no experience in three-dimensional manoeuvring equipment or military drills, Venora Iscandar's participation in this wall-exterior reconnaissance mission was a death sentence. Why did high command send an untrained civilian to the battlefield to perish?
4. Among the three major corps, numerous nominal positions akin to the ‘Commander of the Survey Corps’ persist, reserved exclusively for nobility. What purpose do these positions serve?
5. Yes, we shall not beat about the bush. We ask plainly: When shall the interference of nobility in serious military operations cease?

«Walls Church Joint Communiqué» (Excerpt)
...Father Nick of the Walls Church commented on the recent Winora incident:
‘Well, yes, yes... she's dead, and I'm deeply saddened for her. The path to death was her own choice; none of us could have helped her, could we? But she was a good girl. I believe God will forgive her.’
