Chapter Text

Today’s the day.

Today’s the day Schweiden Adlers’s prodigy setter, Kageyama Tobio, was going to see his best friend.

His idiotic best friend who decided to leave Japan for Brazil without even thinking about how he would feel.

His idiotic best friend who wasn’t his teammate anymore.

Whatever. Kageyama thought. At least he gained a worthy rival from it.

Kageyama was just about to leave when he felt his phone buzz.

Was it him?

He looked down to see a text from his teammate Ushijima.

Have you left yet?

Kageyama sighed at the text. Ushijima was always texting him the most random things, usually just surface level questions he gave one word answers to. Most people would see it as someone trying to start a conversation, but not Kageyama. He didn’t know why Ushijima was asking him so many questions. He didn’t know why Ushijima’s interest in him didn’t start until last year.

But it was whatever. Kageyama had other things to worry about. Like figuring out why Hinata left him for Brazil. It’s a sore topic, okay?

He thought about the possible answers while driving to the stadium, then again while he was changing. It was the only thing on his mind until he saw him.

Hinata Shoyo, in the flesh, was standing in front of him. Well not really—he was facing away from him, standing next to his teammates.

Kageyama recognised a few of them. Hinata was standing between Atsumu and Sakusa, and the three of them were talking to Bokuto.

Bokuto seemed really into whatever conversation they were having, gesturing wildly with his arms.

Kageyama looked at Sakusa's arms, which almost looked broken because of the weird position his wrists were in. Hinata’s arms looked about three shades darker than what he remembered, and were really muscular.

Mhm. Yummy.

Atsumu’s left arm laid casually by his side, while his right arm was wrapped around Hinata’s waist.

Wait, what?

Kageyama blinked. Was he seeing things?

Atsumu’s long arm had wrapped itself around Hinata’s tiny waist, pulling their bodies together. His hand rested protectively on the curve of Hinata’s—

Kageyama looked away. He was too busy thinking about his feelings to notice Ushijima approach him.

“Kageyama.” Ushijima said, standing right behind him.

Kageyama jumped at his voice, losing his balance. He saw Hinata turn around to look at him while falling, likely because of how loudly Ushijima had said his name.

Bracing for impact, Kageyama closed his eyes shut, waiting to hit the floor. But it never came.

“Oof.” Ushijima grunted.

Kageyama opened his eyes slowly, breathing in sharply when he was met with Ushijima’s face, two centimeters away from his own. Instinctively, he looked down to his lips.

They’re not as pink as Hinata’s.

“-let’s go.”

“-you okay?”

“Huh?” Kageyama blinked.

“Are you okay?” Ushijima repeated, using his hand behind Kageyama’s head to tilt their faces toward each other.

“I— what?”

Kageyama struggled out of Ushijima’s grip, getting up just in time to watch Atsumu drag a heartbroken-looking Shoyo out of his sight, yelling about how they needed to leave or else they’d be late for the game.

Hinata caught his gaze on the way out.

I’ll see you on court.

Notes:

Hi guys! This is my first time posting as an author so please do judge. I love comments that are just commenting AND ones that give me suggestions equally.

I know this is short but the chapters will get longer. (hopefully)

If I do finish this it will take absolutely forever and be super long.

If I don't finish this (I probably won't), then you can suck it up.

The main thing is to keep your expectations LOW.
