Work Header

It's never over

Summary:

Something about the whole setup felt familiar to Bucky in the worst way anything could feel for him.The staged supervision, the correlation to someone that they know, this whole pattern, everything just felt like Bucky would be able to track back every step in his sleep. He didn't want to say it out loud but it felt like he's the prototype for said procedure.

»Buck?«

Sambucky slow burn trying to unravel some past problems (with Plot)

Notes:

Chapter Text

Sam

The moment he saw those missed calls Sam knew something was wrong. Bucky wasn't the person to just *call* someone, not him, not during this time of day.

It was 12:30a.m. when Sam called back, he wasn't asleep jet, and after he received no answer he knew he wouldn't be anytime soon.

Right when Sam sat down in his car to go and see what was wrong, Bucky called him again.

  -Hello?

-Buck, what happened? Why did you call me?

  - I'm sorry, did I wake you up?

-No don't worry about that, just tell me what's wrong.

-Got a call from Walker, I kinda thought you'd like to know what he said

James voice sounded a lot more lighthearted than he expected it to be

-Walker? Yeah of course, what was it about?

 - He sounded drunk, talked about getting his place back or something.... Sam? Why did you sound so worried?

-I mean you called, twice, you don't usually do that.

-Oh. Shit I'm so sorry, I thought you were awake and wanted to tell you cause it's funny. Bad idea

-NO, no no no, not really your fault. And it is kind of funny actually

They both chuckled slightly, trying to envision the phonecall from Walkers perspective.

-You sound off, are you not at home?

-Uh, I'm in my car, you didn't answer so I wanted to check in, you know?

-Damn

-You know, since I'm already in the car I could just come over. I mean I'm not staying in New York for too long, gotta make use of the time, right?

-Uh, yeah sure, that'd be cool

-Great I'm on my way!

Bucky

Bucky sure didn't plan it turning out this way but he wasn't going to complain either. Sams hotel was not to far from his place, so he was sure that Sam would be there in a few minutes. Naturally he tried to tidy up his small apartment as good as possible. Bucky isn't the neat person he used to be back when things felt normal. But Sam doesn't have to be aware of it, does he? He still felt really bad for worrying Sam with his lack of social skills. Well if you want to call it that. James Buchanan Barnes was charming, and that Charme hasn't left him in the course of the last 70 years. His attempts on looking tough and out of reach just get into his way sometimes, even if for some reason he tries really hard to not let that happen in front of Sam. Bucky was in the middle of unloading his dishwasher, that he put on a while back, when he heard his doorbell ring.
