Picnics, stars a wish

Summary:

Kirby and Bandee get to spend an entire day together, and end the day off with a bit of stargazing.

Notes:

Hello! I had originally posted this work on Tumblr, but I decided to post it on here too, that way people who aren’t on this site might also see it! I’m so happy I get to participate in this week, it’s the first time I participate in something like this, and it’s really fun! I hope you guys enjoy this little story I wrote!
This one shot covers the prompts I chose for day one and two, Picnic/Stars.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It was a very pleasant day, as most were on Popstar. But this day was going to be extra nice, because Bandee was coming over! He had a full day off today, and they were planning on spending it together. That made him very happy, an entire day with his friend! They didn’t know what they were doing, though. Bandee said it was a surprise. But that only made them more excited!

“Kirby! I’m here!”

And here he was! Waving excitedly with a basket in the other hand.

“Bandee!!”

Kirby ran down the hill as fast as he could and excitedly greeted his best friend. “You’re here!”

“Yep! And…” He gestured to the bag he had brought. “I brought breakfast!”

Kirby’s smile grew even wider.

“You brought food?”

“Well, yeah. I’m going to hang out with you, of course I’m gonna bring food. Not just for breakfast, but for the whole day!”

“Wow!”

Kirby felt like he was floating on a little cloud in right now. Food and Bandee! His two favorite things!

“Well, what are we waiting for? Let’s eat!”

“Alright, just wait a moment…”

Bandee began to set up a little blanket on the ground for the two of them, before taking out the food. They both sat down to eat.

“Wow, this is really good!”

Kirby was happily eating the food, with a fork as Bandee requested. He couldn’t inhale his friend’s share after all.

“You think? I’m made this myself, actually.”

“You did?”

“Yeah, I’m happy it tastes good.”

Granted, Kirby wasn’t exactly the pickiest when it came to food. But it still felt nice knowing they enjoyed it.

And once they were both full, the day could officially start! A full day of fun!

It had been a very fun day. Plenty of games had been played. They ate lunch together and took a nap. And then, they played some more.

It was a peaceful, carefree day.

And then the sun started to set, the sky slowly changing from a calm blue to a beautiful orange. They both sat down for dinner, watching the sunset together.

Once they finished, they both turned to the night sky. The sun had set not too long ago now, and thousands of lights were twinkling in the darkness. The world was calm and silent, save for the faint whistle of the nightly breeze. It was nice.

The two were seated close together, practically struck together. The excitement having worn off, they were both content to simply watch the sky and enjoy each other’s presence in silence, the familiar weight of the other against their side.

This went on for a little while, until Kirby felt the familiar weight pressed against his side grow heavier. They carefully looked to their side.

Bandee had fallen asleep.

Normally it was the other way around.

He smiled, and continued looking at the stars.

Bandee wasn’t someone that really ever fell asleep like that. Usually the only way for him to get some good sleep would be either for someone else to convince him or for him to really, fully relax, which didn’t happen all that often. Which was one of the reasons why they often insisted for naps together, like they did earlier today. So he was happy to let his friend rest.

This was nice.

Watching the stars, with Bandee at his side.

It was nice.

Suddenly, they saw a streak of light twinkling in the night sky. A shooting star! He’d almost woken his friend up, but by the time he thought of it, it was already gone. It was ephemeral, a shooting star. A single, fleeting moment on the fabric of time. Yet, it was this short lived nature that made it all the more beautiful.

Shooting stars… You’re supposed to make wishes on those, right?

If they had a wish right now, it would be…

To stay with their best friend.

Together.

Forever.

Notes:

Fun fact! Writing and brainstorming Kirbandee for a whole week might have messed with my brain chemistry a little bit, if the notes in the document I wrote this in are anything to go by. I regret nothing. Kirbandee is life.
