Work Text:

Whatever happened to the poor Chongyun?

His once bland days are now filled with color. The Chongyun, uncaring of the world around him, who used to prefer looking outside through the window, is now replaced by a Chongyun who chooses to interact with the people around him. The Chongyun who used to be closed off is now replaced by a Chongyun who does his best to reach out.

In this tiny classroom, a lot of change occurred to him and his perception of things. Since when did libraries appeal to him when the only other book he has ever devotedly read in his life was their biology book he hoped one day he would comprehend? Perhaps it happened when a certain someone invited him to the library one day, and that certain someone also happened to make him read a book aloud for that certain someone to listen to. That certain someone also happened to lay on his lap, ending up falling asleep there.

He noticed another change a couple of days ago—the way his heart picks up its pace when he meets eyes with someone. It somehow happened that this someone is no ordinary someone. This someone is Xingqiu, his classmate and president of the student body. His best friend for how many years. Naturally famous and knows every other person. The complete opposite of Chongyun.

Chongyun wonders whatever it is that makes him so attracted to the boy. His eyes scan for him in the tiny classroom. Curiously enough, it seems they knew exactly where to look. At 3 o’clock, Xingqiu stands in all his glory. Amidst the chatter among his friends, Xingqiu catches Chongyun’s gaze as though contesting the intensity Chongyun’s eyes hold.

At that exact moment in time, a heart skips a beat—Chongyun’s. Xingqiu takes note of the pinkness in his cheeks, amused. The way the corners of Xingqiu’s lips lift into a smile makes Chongyun’s world stop. The beating of his heart follows no rhythm, just a melody that goes like the river flow, uncertain but unstopping. Alas, Chongyun, the poor boy, realizes that he is, like in the book he read to Xingqiu, young and hopelessly smitten.
