Work Text:
Autumn is my favourite season.
It’s when the golden leaves now heavy, fall to the ground, when the wind now cooler blows in your hair. Autumn is when people start to wear their warmest coat, or when they start to gather around a hot drink at a café. Autumn is bright, autumn is cold, autumn is when people like he, can let the mask fall and let it stumble among the brownish leaves.
His gaze wavered, once, twice. It couldn’t seem to settle down on something. It reached the screen of his phone in his quivering hands, opened his messages and looked into the “B” category. He clicked on a contact named simply “Bachira”, when entering the chat and then proceeding to type in a text, he stopped. His other hand gripped onto the freezing bench he was sitting on, his warm breaths filling the air.
He typed:
:You
Where are you?
18:32 delivered
No response. He waits for a few more minutes just looking blankly at the screen while desperately trying to warm his hands up.
After some time, he heard a sharp sound coming from the distance. There weren’t a lot of people at this hour at the park strangely, but if there were at least one you could be sure they heard it.
“Rin!”
In a blur, the black silhouette quickly transformed into a boy with black and yellow bangs, a weird fringe, an eccentric yellow-ish coat and a wicked smile (It is in fact, his normal smile).
The boy panted as he stopped, grabbing onto his knees as support.
“Took you long enough.” Rin looked down at the other with a half crooked smile who quickly left as it came, his hand gripping at his own scarf to cover up the bottom of his face.
“Sorry! My phone died and I was running late because of school, had to help clean the classroom and all. You should’ve seen the face of the guy in my class when I told them I had to leave early because I had a date. It was hilarious.” The smallest of the two quickly held onto the other’s arm, tangling them.
“You told them what?!” The tall boy jumped, now frowning.
“Relaaaax~ It’s only the truth, I didn’t even tell with whom you should be grateful!” Bachira joked and Rin’s expression softened a bit.
“I’d be the last person they’d think would have a date to begin with, do you think they would believe a guy like you would even be interested in me?” His laugh resonated in the calm breeze as they both walked into town.
“I- I am.” Rin’s eyes darted from him, focusing anywhere but on the other. Why the hell did he stutter??
Bachira’s eyes lit up and golden pupils settled on cyan ones, he didn’t know why but those two words (rather three) made him feel all warm inside, even his cheeks began to imitate a tomato, but this one looked like a mess, a blushing mess.
“Did you just–”
“No. Forget I said anything.” Rin’s face was as red as his.
