Work Text:

“I still remember our days together.”

The demon of silence stood silently in the empty battle field.

“Why did you do this?”

Laughter filled the suffocating air. The master of deceit landed down right in front of Silent Salt, staring up at them with amusement.

“I didn’t tell a soul to kill anyone,” the Fount said, “I never even stepped foot here. It was all you, my dear knight.”

Silent Salt’s jaw clenched from under his helmet. He stared down at his jam and crumb covered sword, still dripping with fresh death. He snapped his head back up, staring back at the…jester.

“Fount…” he whispered, his anger growing and growing. “What did you do?”

“That name’s so boring, don’t you think?” The Fount smiled in such an unfamiliar way, his teeth flashing in the dying fire light. “Call me…Shadow Milk Cookie.”

“You took away my everything.”

“I already told you,” Shadow Milk lazily hovered beside Silent Salt, tracing his helmet with one clawed finger. “I didn’t do any of this.”

Silent Salt grasped his hand, squeezing the blue demon’s wrist until he squealed in pain.

“Perhaps not,” Silent Salt swung Shadow Milk in front of him, holding the jester over a flickering fire. “But you still aren’t the cookie I knew, are you?”

“Neither are you,” Shadow Milk laughed, flinching only momentarily at the fire. “Are you, my knight?”

“You didn’t answer my question.”

“I like you better like this, my friend. Cookie crumbs, strawberry jam, it’s all so magnificent, don’t you think? No one can hurt us any longer.”

Silent Salt pulled the other closer, their eyes baring down into Shadow Milk’s. Unfamiliar eyes.

His beautiful golden eye, changed to a revolting blue one.

“Give me back my Fount,” Silent Salt growled, “you fucking bastard.”

“Make me.” Shadow Milk cackled.

The master of deceit swung the demon of silence around, his hand resting on their side.

“Revolting.” Silent Salt muttered.

“I’m glad you think so!” Shadow Milk tilted his head, his smile growing. “The better to scare naughty cookies away.”

Silent Salt scowled, quietly examining Shadow Milk as he attempted a ball dance with them.

Shadow Milk, even as the Fount, had always been a smaller cookie. Perhaps it was because of the excess amount of milk in his dough; perhaps it was a trust thing. Regardless, it used to be amusing and charming when he tried to lead a dance with the Salt of Solidarity.

Now it was pathetic.

“You’re so stiff, perhaps you should get out of that armor?” Shadow Milk said. Silent Salt almost laughed.

“You’d like that, wouldn’t you?” They said bitterly, his hand clutching Shadow Milk’s tighter.

“Hmph, all I ask for is a dance, Salty!”

“Really,” The silent demon had enough. “Fine, your wish is my command.”

It was easy enough to take over. Silent Salt dipped Shadow Milk, his own hand finding its way to the jester’s back to support him. Not that he cared to, but it made it easier to manhandle the beast. Shadow Milk was shocked for only a moment before he smiled back up at the other.

“You know, I’m the better leader-“

“Shut your hole.” Their own claws dug into Shadow Milk’s back. The bastard’s face turned magenta, a blush that twisted Silent Salt’s insides. Did he like that?

“Is someone mad?” Shadow Milk laughed as he was swung around. “Don’t you worry, my dear Salty. You did the right thing.”

Silent Salt dipped Shadow Milk again, his eyes blazing with fury. “I said be silent.”

Shadow Milk’s grin grew, clutching to Silent Salt as he was dipped further down. “My friend, what’s the worry? You don’t want to talk to your old pal?”

We aren’t pals. We weren’t ’pals’ back then either,” did he forget everything? Did he forget how he wasn’t just the Fount; but Their Fount?

Shadow Milk’s eyes darted behind them, at the dark sky. Smiling.

“The moon is beautiful tonight.”

Silence finally grew over the blue demon. Silent Salt was practically heaving, his body freezing up otherwise.

Despite everything, he still didn’t want things to end up this way.

They didn’t want to hate Shadow Milk. They didn’t want to hate the Fount.

His grip softened, tears escaping his eyes and falling onto Shadow Milk’s face.

“I didn’t mean to-“

“I know you didn’t.” Shadow Milk planted a soft kiss onto Silent Salt’s helmet, pulling away from him. “But you did. You made a masterpiece.”

Shadow Milk watched as Silent Salt’s fell to his knees, staring at the corpses that piled up. His soldiers, the enemy soldiers.

What was he doing?

Arguing with a wall, telling himself that the unfamiliar Fount was the reason for this. But really, it was their’s.

“I’m a monster.” Silent Salt said breathily. “I—“

“Aw, no need to be so harsh on yourself.” Shadow Milk knelt beside the other, caressing their helmet with his hands. “Nothing you can do now.”

Silent Salt couldn’t stop the tears dripping out of his eyes. He could only stop slaughter wirh slaughter. Was this was came to cookie kind?

“Fount,” he gasped. “Can- will everything be ok?”

He felt embarrassed asked such a thing to him. He wasn’t even the Fount anymore.

And yet, he still loved the fiend.

How sad.

“Yeah.” Shadow Milk lied. “You’ll be perfectly fine.”

Notes:

This was just some practice writing some dialogue between Silent Salt and Shadow Milk for other fics so the story is kinda all over the place. Regardless I hope you enjoyed <3 thanks for reading!!
