Work Text:

The summer sun burned more than ever, and a tired Sawamura tried to cover it with a hand while he kept his head rested in one Okumura's lap that, apparently, appeared disintrested in the ongoings of his surroundings. Both remained silent, simply trying to catch the breath lost during training, even though it was clear that the third year pitcher was already used to the -to a certain degree- hellish summer practice routine. It's Okumura's second time going through such experiences, but he felt he would never manage to adapt to it. His body just wasn't used to that kind of thing, it was why he had taken a seat on the bench to catch his breath and Sawamura had joined him not much later.

It was Sawamura's last year in Seidou. Okumura had become the official catcher and he now devoted himself to almost exclusively catching his senpai's pitches. Together they had proved to be an unstoppable battery in more than one occasion. Okumura sometimes had to share him with Kaoru Yui, of course, especially in official matches, which didn't make Koushuu very happy.

While they had had a wild start the previous year, someway or another they had ended up leaving their diffrences aside and becoming great allies and Okumura didn't regret that decision. One simply couldn't know beforehand how a relationship between two people would turn up, much less control them to develop a certain way. Okumura had somehow accepted Sawamura's personality, something that had been hard in the beginning, but now they were...good friends, you could say? But nothing more than that.

Of course Okumura sometimes had doubts about what was going on between the two of them ...

He had stayed to watch the sunset with his senpai day after day and at one point, their faces had gotten close enough to feel their breaths clashing. It had been the work of an accident more than of coincidence, but the point was that for a moment he realized how uncontrollably his heart raced, wondering if his senpai felt the same. Okumura tried to break the distance betweem them but before anything significant happened, Seto, Kaoru and Masashi had called them, bursting the moment without realizing what they were really doing.

Because summer training had started just after he didn't have a chance to ask, but...What would he do if Sawamura's answer was negative? No, he couldn't afford to run away. He should face all the possibilities head on, without fear, without the slightest hesitation.

...But the desire to turn back was immense.

"Okumura, your head's in the clouds." Sawamura's smile became present almost blinding him with it's brilliance. "You're not bored because of me, right?"

"..."

"What's with that silence? Don't tell me you really get bored!"

"It's not that, senpai, it's just..." And well, how to bring up such topic? "What happened the other day while we were watching the sunset..."

"Ooooh! Now that you mention it...! I think we should repeat that occasion! You saw it, right? It was beautiful!"

"..."

"It's a shame it didn't last forever. It was one of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen!"

"..."

"Don't ignore me!"

"I'm not ignoring you, senpai." He gestured for him to stand, so Sawamura took a seat in the bench. I think it was a bad idea to ask, he's not very bright after all.

Okumura couldn't perceive the smile that lit up the pitcher's face.

"By the way, Koushuu..."

The one mentioned turned.

Had he just called him by his name?

But before responding to the call, Sawamura had pulled him to toward him until pressing his lips into the blonde's.

"This is the only thing we missed that day!"

Okumura pulled back completely stunned and brought his hand to his lips.

This is bad, he's spending too much time with Miyuki-san.

"Hey, you two! Stop flirting and get back to practice!" Kanemaru shouted, while some cracked up.

While Sawamura went back to the training field, Koushuu went looking for his bat.

Now that his senpai had given the green light, he wasn't going to let him slip through his hands.
