Chapter Text
”You gotta be fucking kidding me you stupid piece of shit!”
“Nance? Are you okay in there?”
Okay don’t get her wrong – Nancy loved her new apartment. She loved having her own space, her own routine, and her own living room even though it sometimes felt a little too big for just one person.
She adored how the sunlight bathed the wooden floors, making everything look dreamy. Books and plants and vinyl records and photos had filled the empty space in a matter of days, and her place looked just like the home she always wanted.
Even the surroundings were nice, a fairly calm part of Boston, not too far from her work but also not too close to the bristling traffic of the city.
Even the damn price was perfect! That’s what she should have paid attention to. Half the price of half the shittiest apartments in Boston, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, right?
So she successfully ignored the roof leak above her bed even during the weakest storm, she paid no mind to the buzzing noise the lights made when turned off – she certainly didn’t care that neither the wifi nor the cable worked smoothly, she was trying to reduce her screen time anyways.
So now she found herself underneath the bathroom sink, both hands desperately clutching a kind of tube? pipe? whatever it was that was currently exploding with what she really hoped was clean water straight into her face.
“AHHG, you FUCKING piece of SHIT” Seriously how much water was able to fit in such a small sink?!!
“Okayyy I’m gonna come in Nance– Whoa.” Steve opened the bathroom door and stepped into the puddle that was quickly forming on the floor. “Gosh I really hope that’s clean water right?”
“DO SOMETHING STEVE!” Nancy shouted
He -way too calmly for Nancy’s ever-shortening temper- tiptoed around the room to a small tap handle hidden behind the toilet, and turned it off. With a last shriek, the water stopped, both her hair and mascara being a complete mess already.
“How did you fix that?” she managed to grumble while grabbing a (now) damp towel to dry her face
“Male magic” Nancy raised an eyebrow. “Just kidding, I didn’t. That’s just the bathroom’s water supply faucet, you knew that right?”
“The what?”
Steve stared at her for roughly a second to assure himself that she wasn’t messing with him, and ran a hand over his face.
“It’s seriously a miracle you’ve survived so long on your own, especially in such a precarious place” He muttered the last half but she heard it anyway.
“Well CAN you fix it?”
“Okay why the hell would I? Do I look like damn Bob the Builder to you?” Nancy watched his face soften as he thoughtfully raised a finger “ I may know someone who can, though”

So her Monday morning kept bringing more and more surprises.
“Rob! Hey dude how are you doing? Yeah yeah same old, same old. Yeah i know we saw each other like twelve hours ago- yeah everything’s fine- wait actually no it isn’t-“
Nancy had never heard Steve talking so excitedly with someone over the phone. Not even in their early teen years when it seemed like the most romantic thing they could ever spend all their nights doing. She suppressed a gag.
“What? No, chill dude, no one died yet” He laughed over his most likely already cold cup of coffee. “I was gonna ask you about the plumbing thing”
Nancy swore she heard an honest to god squeal through the speakers. This Rob guy sure matched Steve’s energy.
“Yeah just a small teeny tiny leak, nothing difficult for you, I assume. Yeah, I’ll ask your client” Steve turned to her “Nance, are you free this afternoon?”
“I— Uh yeah i think so?”
“Yeah afternoon works amazing dude, I’ll tell you the details in a minute, thank you so much- love you more!” He hung up with a happy sigh. “Okay Nance good news- the cheapest, most efficient plumber in Boston will be visiting your lovely bathroom at like 6pm.”
“Sure seemed eager to work,” She noted
“Oh you have no idea, now can we please leave already? Some of us have actual jobs to get to.” He giggled as she stood up to slap his head.
