“How are we doing?” Lisa sat down next to Shane on the porch. The sun was setting and a nice orange hue settled over the farm.
Shane wiped some sweat off his forehead with his forearm. “Good… I think.”
They looked out over the freshly planted field. Shane had insisted on helping.
Lisa nodded. “Looking great!” It was a half truth. A few were planted too close for when the bushes started growing, but the hot peppers would grow either way, so it didn’t quite matter.
Her hand slid to the back of his head, combing through his hair. “Good job~” she praised in a slightly higher tone.
Shane swiped his hand at her. “Urgh, stop…” But it was half-hearted at best. He wouldn't admit how much he liked these pets.
They sat there for a while, Lisa’s hand sliding to rest on his shoulder.
“I guess you truly are a gift from Yoba…” she whispered.
Shane groaned. “You need to stop talking to Marnie…” she laughed at his complaint.
“It’s funny,” she pointed at herself. “My name is similar, meaning something like Yoba’s promise- so I’m the promise and you are the gift~” She smiled at him, that same fond little smile she had offered from the moment she first encountered him at the saloon.
Shane sighed. “Blasphemy.” he huffed.
Lisa let out a bark of laughter, ruffling his hair.
“Oh shut up! Hahaha!”
