Undeniable Love

Summary:

Overgirl is defeated and her heart is about to expire, can Barry save her? Will Overgirl turn a new leaf now that she has been saved by her enemy?

Work Text:

Barry pinned Overgirl to the wall, the Reichman lost, they all were captured, with only Thawne escaping the grasp of the heroes, Barry had him by a hair until Thawne distracted him by telling him about his feelings for Kara... Well, the evil version of her.

Barry was heartbroken when Kara had told him she had gotten back with Mon-El, he had tried with Iris, he did, but it didn't work out, Iris wanted the Flash, not Barry Allen. So when these Nazi doppelgangers barged in at Oliver and Felicity's wedding ceremony, Barry laid his eyes on one floating figure.

He was snapped back into reality, he grabbed Overgirl's damaged mask and pulled it off of her face. His arm pressed against her neck while his other arm pinned her arms above her head.

"Well Flash, this is an interesting predicament, so what will you do? Bring me to justice? Or end this, right here, right now?" Overgirl asked, her shoulders sank in defeat.

Barry looked into her defeated blue eyes, he knew she didn't have much time left.

"We can save you, let us take care of you, Thawne may have escaped, but he's not the only one who knows how to save you, we have a lot of brilliant people here, including me, and I won't let you die," Barry murmured.

Overgirl was amazed, to say the least, she let herself relax under the Flash's grip. She had a soft spot for Barry because he was her life...

She could still hear his voice as he told her to run, she could see his demise as their flagship crashed into the Catco building during a terrorist attack in National City. She blinked back tears.

"The option is yours, you can leave if you'd like, but never come back, but if you choose us, then we can help you, I believe that you can be a better person," Barry told her.

Barry took a leap of faith, he took a couple of steps back and let Overgirl go. Overgirl looked down at his hand. Barry was scarred by Kara's silent rejection, he wasn't fast enough to claim her, and now she was in Mon-El's arms again.

"Okay."

Barry's lips curled into a smile at hearing that one word, a word that would resonate throughout his entire body, lighting up each synapse in his brain. Barry pulled off his glove as extended his hand, Overgirl looked down, Barry took a step forward.

"It's okay, I won't hurt you, I won't let them hurt you," Barry assured her.

Overgirl pulled off her leather gloves, she extended her hand and placed it on Barry's hand. Barry felt his heart rate spike, his face almost flushing. He ran his thumb over her knuckles, gently easing her, making her shoulders relax. They both smiled at each other, Overgirl bit her lip and looked down.

"Alright, follow me to STAR Labs, the faster we figure out what's happening to your heart, the faster we can help you," Barry told her.

Barry took off at a reasonable pace as Overgirl follow behind him, he saw Overgirl falter thought and stopped immediately. Overgirl was on the ground, clutching her chest in pain. Barry gasped and rushed over to her.

"Hey, hey, breathe," Barry murmured. He picked up Overgirl bridal style and activated his comms.

"Harry, Caitlin, prepare the medbay, I have an injured person," Barry told them urgently.

"You got it, Allen," Harry responded.

Barry took off running towards STAR Labs, he skidded to a halt in the cortex, seeing Oliver drag away a seething Dark Arrow, one of the Nazis who were still alive. Leo and Ray were in the cortex, they gasped as they saw Barry, Leo pointed his gun at Overgirl.

"Guys, wait! She's dying!" Barry shouted.

"Then let her die, she's killed millions, Barry, even as a hero, you know that's cold," Leo told him.

"That's not how we roll around here, I offered her a second chance, and she took it, so whatever you have on her, I'll take care of it, this is my Earth, it's Oliver's earth too," Barry said firmly, standing in front of Overgirl.

"A lot of loyalty to a Nazi," Ray told him.

"I know I did bad things, I know you won't forgive me, so I won't say sorry because you don't need sympathy, you saw your loved ones die, and now here I am at your feet, so you decide, right? Because that's what you do in the land of the free? Decide who dies. Decide who is rich, decide who is poor, decide which race is privileged, America and the Reichman, they're the same, but who am I to judge, I'm just a filthy Nazi right?" Overgirl said.

Overgirl walked up to Leo and stared at him, Overgirl adjusted her cape and stood tall. Her eyes set and determined, full of guilt and anger.

"You can kill me, if that suits your blood lust, you can kill me if that supposedly avenges what you lost, but take it from me, I lost someone so close to me, and when I felt his neck snap at my hands, I felt the same, I didn't feel satisfied, but you go on ahead, let's go to Earth-X so you can kill me," Overgirl said.

Leo's gun trembled in his hand, Ray had his fists balled.

"You're right, but know your place, you're a filthy Nazi, don't even think about coming back to Earth-X, it's not your home anymore, if you do, we'll stop you, and we'll execute you," Ray firmly told her.

"Let's go, Leo," Ray murmured, Leo and Ray made their way out of the Cortex. Overgirl sighed and turned around towards Barry.

"I'm sorry for everything, if that means anything to you," Overgirl apologized. Her eyes were watery.

"It means the world to me," Barry told her.

Overgirl sniffled, damn him for being as sweet as Blitzkrieg.

Barry grabbed her hand and led her to the medical bed, Caitlin brought in her tools and so did Harry. Barry looked at them surprised.

"You don't have a problem helping her?" Barry asked pointing to Overgirl.

"I trust you, Barry, if this is what you think is right, then I agree, you're our leader, and we've learned before never to dismiss your opinion," Caitlin assured Barry.

"What she said," Harry murmured as he prepared the red sun lamps.

"Okay, we need to find out how we're going to fix her," Barry murmured.

"Thawne... he left notes in the lab, here's a drive with the information," Overgirl weakly said and handed it to Harry.

Harry turned on a computer and quickly took a look at the information, it was pretty straight forwards, but there was another process on here that Thawne theorized, but it was a theory. The main idea was to kill Supergirl and give Overgirl her heart, but he thought of a scenario to create a Kryptonian heart using nanotech and Kryptonian DNA, basically synthesize a heart.

"There's a way this can happen without a heart transplant, we synthesize an artificial heart, we need the energy necessary to do it though. The energy necessary to power up the process is as strong as running the particle accelerator for a few minutes, which is extremely dangerous," Harry explained.

"We have to try," Barry told them.

"We also need blood in order to construct the base, Kryptonian blood," Caitlin told him.

"I'll take care of that, just make sure that Cisco's ready to reactivate the accelerator," Barry told them and rushed out of the room.

Kara was going to go back to her Earth with Alex, Mon-El decided to stay back and guard her earth, Kara gave him a second chance, and Mon-El so far hasn't let her down. Barry rushed in and surprised Kara and Alex.

"Kara, I need to talk to you in private," Barry asked. Kara nodded and looked at Alex, who nodded.

"Go, I'll wait for you here," Alex told her.

Barry pulled Kara into the lounge, with a balcony that overlooked the city.

"Kara... I... I need some of your blood if that isn't too much to ask," Barry meekly told her. Kara nodded.

"Of course, but who is it for?" Kara asked.

'Well. Here goes nothing.' Barry thought.

"It's for Overgirl, she's dying."

"Okay," Kara told her.

"You don't... you don't disagree?" Barry asked.

"Why would I, our job is to save lives, even if it's our enemies' lives, plus I saw the way you look at her Barry," Kara told him.

Barry looked down, he let out a calm breath.

"It was the same way I looked at you," Barry admitted.

Kara tilted her head toward the floor. She didn't know what to say.

"I'm sorry, I can't," She managed to say.

"I know, Kara, I want you to be happy, if Mon-El makes you happy, then I'm happy," Barry croaked, he stepped up to her and put her hand under her chin, raising her face to his.

"I do, I am happy with Mon-El."

"Then go be with him, you deserve it," Barry said, even though his own words broke his heart into pieces, and her admitting she was happy with him crushed those pieces into dust.

"I'm sorry, Barry."

"I know."

Barry leaned his forehead against her, both of them breathing.

"I can't," Kara murmured, her lips inches from his.

"I know. I can't either."

"We should go so I can draw the necessary amount of blood out," Kara murmured. Barry nodded. Barry wiped his eyes and led Kara towards the medical bay.

Barry sat Kara down, he pulled out a red sun-powered needle from Thawne's medical kit that he left behind, and drew a couple of blood bags from Kara. Harry, Caitlin, and Barry all dressed in Surgeon garbs. Barry removed the needle from Kara and gave her some orange juice.

...

Barry walked out of the room and into another room. He saw Overgirl in a hospital gown, she was holding a photo of him, he assumed it was his doppelganger.

"The surgery is ready," Barry informed her. Overgirl looked started and turned around to look at him. Her eyes were red and puffy.

"I'll be right there," She assured him.

"I'm sorry, I know seeing a doppelganger of someone you lost is hard, they have the same face, the same semblance," Barry said.

"His name was Blitzkrieg, he was very caring," Overgirl told him, Barry didn't pry any further.

"Come on, let's get you ready," Barry held her hand and led her to the med bay.

...

"I hope you save her Barry, and then I hope you find what you're looking for in her," Kara told him.

"I hope so too, but she'll be nothing like you, goodbye Kara, remember, if you have any problem, you can call, I'll help you guys anytime," Barry told her. Kara nodded and hugged him.

"Same goes for you," Kara murmured.

Kara stepped away, Barry sighed as she walked down the halls, he felt terrible. But Kara had to know how he felt, he just hoped that she wouldn't dwell on it too much.

They cut her open, Barry helped make the heart, it was hard to do, but with Ray's nanites, Cisco's ingenuity, Harry's knowledge, and Caitlin's knowledge of medicine, oh and Barry's speed, they were able to create her heart.

...

Overgirl woke up with a jolt, she felt her chest burning, but she was alive. She saw her heart on a tray next to the surgeon's table, it was black and putrid, it looked deformed and decaying. Then she saw a figure slumped on a chair in the corner of the room, she squinted to take a look at the face, it was Barry.

"Hey," Overgirl whispered to him. She only got a snore as a response.

"HEY!" She said as loud as she could. Barry jolted awake and shot out of his seat.

"Hey, you're awake, thank god," Barry murmured.

"How long was I out?"

"About 12 hours, we turned off the red sun lamps once the operation was done," Barry told her.

"You should rest, Flash, you don't need to be here," Overgirl murmured.

Barry walked closer to her, he observed the way her eyes sparkled when she stared at him.

"No, that's just it, I think I do," Barry told her.

Barry walked up to her and held her hand, all of a sudden, Barry's hand lit up with orange lightning, a pleasant buzz went through Overgirl as she felt relaxed. Kara let out a soft chuckle as she wrapped her arms around Barry's neck and pulled him down for a tight hug, at least as long as her chest allowed it.

"Thank you," Overgirl murmured.

"You can thank me by changing your ways," Barry told her. Kar looked at him, she closed her eyes and let tears roll free. She let out a small sob, her hand moved to cover her mouth.

"I can still hear their screams! I can hear their children being burned! I can hear everything!" Overgirl sobbed out. Barry laid on the very edge of the bed as he pulled Overgirl next to him.

"Shh, it's okay, you're not gonna do that anymore, I'm here for you, let it all out," Barry murmured gently.

Barry stayed with Overgirl the whole night, Overgirl slept through the night, it was the most peaceful sleep she's gotten. it was different being in the arms of the Flash rather than Blitzkrieg, she'd still be worried about her duties and the Reichman.

Overgirl woke up, she realized Barry had left, it was for the best, she stood up weakly. Then she smiled as Barry rushed into the room. He helped her, looping her arm around his shoulder, helping her walk as she was still weak.

"Good morning," Barry murmured.

"Good morning, Flash."

"You don't have to call me that, you know."

"Habit I guess."

"Your new habit should be calling me Barry now."

Overgirl laughed as Barry handed her a pair of clothes.

"These are Caitlin's, she gave them to me so you can wear them," Barry said and handed her the clothes.

"Thank you."

Barry nodded. Overgirl came out of the bathroom newly dressed. She wasn't used to bright colors, but she'd adjust.

"Thank you again, I know you want me out of your hair as soon as possible-"

"Of course not, Kara, you're one of us now, but if you do choose to leave, if you do choose to make a life here on your own, I can help you get a foothold," Barry told her.

Overgirl looked down and bit her lip.

"How can I thank you for your generosity, why are you even doing this? Why me?" She asked.

"Because I can't stop seeing Kara, I can't stop seeing the sweet Kara Danvers that I'm used to, the Kara Danvers that I love," Barry blurted out. His eyes widened.

"You... you love her? Don't you?" Overgirl asked him. Barry closed his eyes and nodded.

"I did, but she chose her man, I was too slow to make a move, for the fastest man alive, I'm awfully slow at the love game," Barry told her.

"She's an idiot," Kara told him. Barry tilted his head to the side.

"She's you."

"She's not me, she missed the biggest opportunity in the universe, to be with you, you're a good man, Barry Allen, on whatever Earth, even my Barry Allen had trouble killing."

"You can be surprised by how dark I can be."

"I'm not, I was married to the darkest one."

Barry didn't know what to say, he just simply looked down and said nothing. Overgirl moved towards him, she lifted his face to meet hers.

"She's a fool, because love is a very very extraordinary thing, and you're full of love, Barry."

Barry couldn't resist her blue eyes calling for him. Love was all he could give to her, he realized that love was more than just a game for two, he loved her, he loves Kara Zor-El, and it took him this long to get over the Earth-38 version of his super friend, but he's not gonna lose another opportunity, no, not again.

So without thinking twice, he steps forward and kissed her...

He kissed Overgirl... His enemy, or so he thought...
