Chapter Text
# Wendy Slinkhard - 03•Sep•76
Wendy Jane Slinkhard never had a friend group of her age on her first five years at Hogwarts until Dahlia Fleur-Peri, her extroverted best friend, presented Wendy to her friend group. Dahlia and Wendy met on the Gryffindor common room their first year and became inseparable; they talked about music, movies and books (even if Dahlia wasn't the biggest bookworm, she enjoyed Wendy's yapping on books she didn't know). Dahlia was a social butterfly (Wendy liked the idea of butterflies being Dahliacore, even more when Dahlia said "Papillon" instead of "Butterfly") and knew almost all of the people's names at Hogwarts. Wendy, in the other hand, knew at best her housemates and three or four Slug Club members. If it wasn't because of Dahlia, Wendy probably would be bored all day.
That day Wendy woke up early because it was their first Herbology class of their fifth year and it was funny because neither of them had Herbology in their top three classes but it was the favourite of Camelia, the girlfriend of Dahlia.
—You're insane, Dahlia.— Wendy yawned in fake annoyance as they walked towards the Great Hall to eat breakfast.
—You'll understand this feeling when you find your sweetheart, Dee. Love feels good.— Dahlia winked at her best friend with a sweet smile.
—What did I mention about nicknames on nicknames, Dahlia?
—But Dee sounds nice!— Dahlia pouted. —And I thought that same day you said "Forget that my name is Gwendolyn, I'm Wendy" or something like that.
Wendy rolled her eyes and followed Dahlia towards the Gryffindor table, where Dahlia's girlfriend and their friend group were.
—Camie!— Dahlia waved cheerfully, sitting next to her girlfriend and hugging her.
Camelia Solis was a Gryffindor girl on their year, she had wavy dark brown hair and her soft but big eyes were inviting Wendy to take a seat. Wendy nodded nervously and sat.
—Morning!— Camelia greeted cheerfully and Wendy nodded again.
Before Wendy could answer, three girls with the Slytherin uniform greeted them and Wendy kinda recognized them.
—Oh, it's miss Slinkhard.— One of the girls spoke with a sweet, elegant tone. It was Juliette Wilkes.
And those words made Wendy's heart race, thankfully for her she didn't blush but that doesn't stopped Wendy of thinking that Juliette looked beautiful that morning.
Well, Juliette always looked beautiful for Wendy. Her platinum blonde hair so kindly treated and always with those velvety ribbons in dusty rose or pure white was shining. She was wearing a emerald green lace ribbon tie over her school shirt and a beige cardigan.
The short girl with auburn hair was Calliope Carrow; the Slytherin Prefect and also member of the Slug Club. Wendy remembered her because Calliope was too pure and attentive, she never asked Wendy for money after she helped her with two essays last year. To be fair Wendy never saw someone so knowledgeable and curious with the will of helping the rest so she didn't mind having a good talk session with her about Jane Austen books.
The other one was Lucinda Talkalot: the new Slytherin Quidditch Captain. Lucinda was rough and sharp, closed off with most people. Wendy never interacted with her, Lucinda's presence was intimidating. She’s still a menace, totally chaotic when you know her better but she tries to hide that side of her. Calliope described Lucinda like that when she had a chat with Wendy.
Before Wendy could continue yapping about Juliette on her mind, she noticed the blonde girl looking at her, waiting for an answer. Juliette smiled at them softly while Lucinda pierced her gaze on Wendy. The red haired Gryffindor girl fixed her navy blue beret, she felt judged. And probably Lucinda was judging her.
Maybe because Lucinda hadn't the best relationship with Gryffindors in general. Sam Fortescue, one of Wendy's classmates and the younger brother of her friend Alice, once teased Lucinda on their third year days before the Slytherin vs Gryffindor Quidditch match and the Slytherin girl punched him on the nose.
Wendy cleared her throat a bit nervous (lie, she was too nervous) and asked, noticing something different on them.
—Y'all dyed your hair on this summer, huh?
—Mhm! We did a little spa session on Luci's house with her mom's help! We tried to convince Julie but it was useless, her hair is untouchable— Camelia mentioned and pouted towards Juliette.
—Hey! Don't try to blame me! I love my hair and I won't use some weird chems on it!— Juliette defended herself and huffed in fake irritation.
—Don't be so exaggerate, Wilkes. It's not a tattoo or a piercing, it doesn't hurt.— Lucinda rolled her eyes at Juliette and crossed her arms.
As Juliette and Lucinda discussed, Wendy looked at her ladybug pocket watch and saw the time. 8:55 AM.
Wendy got up abruptly from her seat and walked quickly towards the Hogwarts greenhouses. No way she's gonna be late to classes. Wendy was too responsible to ever be late.
9:02 AM. Or that's what the trustworthy ladybug pocket watch of Wendy said when she arrived at the greenhouse three.
It was empty. Well, kinda, there was some students of all the four houses on their fifth year, same as Wendy. It was only because the Professor wanted to tell all the students about the contents that would enter in the O.W.L exams on June next year.
At the time Wendy arrived at the greenhouse, Juliette tried to catch Lucinda's fast pace.
—If that Gryffindor nerd told us the time we wouldn't be late!— Lucinda complained.
—The Lucinda Talkalot worrying about what time she arrives at a classroom, that's surprising.— Juliette retorted under her breath.
—Are you defending that girl?— Lucinda raised an eyebrow and stopped before entering the greenhouse.
—Lucinda Sofia Talkalot, you're such an idiot! Why you misunderstand my words? What does Slinkhard do to you to be like that?
—That doesn't answer my question, princess.— Lucinda nudged Juliette softly and both entered the greenhouse.
They were saved from losing points for Slytherin, thanks to a convincing excuse from Calliope to the Professor. Prefect privileges they say.
Wendy tried to pay attention towards the Professor's words but she was so focused on Juliette.
The earlier conversation of the hair dye made Wendy think which colour would suit Juliette's hair for some locks or highlights.
Hot pink would look nice but Juliette's was more of pastel and low saturated colours, it wouldn't suit Juliette's vibe.
She wanted to sketch and paint how Juliette would look but the Professor would take some points from Gryffindor and sent her to detention if he saw Wendy was doing something else instead of listening him.
But love does things you wouldn't never ever thought you would do.
—Sam...
Wendy whispered to her housemate, the brunette boy smirked cockily, hiding his confusion of Wendy's sudden call.
—Dear Wendy. Need my help?
—Take five galleons and cover me.
Fortescue chuckled and received the five galleons, raising his eyebrow even more confused.
—Don't think I won't give them back to you after this and ask you what you will do now.— The boy scoffed, using his quidditch jacket to cover Wendy.
The red haired pouted, that was probably a family trait. Alice covered Wendy with her jacket more than once when she needed it.
Focus, Wendy. Focus.
She needed to use one of her non coloured Juliette sketches and use her colors to paint her platinum hair with different highlights colours.
Her fingers moved quickly, using the pencils with carefulness as if it was a royalty portrait. Wendy hummed softly when she finished and analyzed which one would suit her best: Hot pink, coral pink or black.
Wendy gasped nervously when someone took off Sam's jacket from her. It was him, trying to contain his laugh of Wendy's face.
—It's not funny, Sam! Why did you took off your jacket from me?
—Class was over earlier, way too early and the Professor only explained the topics from the Herbology O.W.L, nothing else. I wish this could happen all History of Magic classes.
Wendy chuckled at his comment and closed her sketchbook, letting Sam help her standing up.
—So what you were doin', dear Wendy?— Sam gave the five galleons back to her and walked out of the greenhouse with Wendy.
—Stop calling dear Wendy! And take the galleons if you wanna keep the secret.
—I don't need five galleons to keep my mouth shout!— Sam crossed his arms and huffed in fake annoyance. —You really think I'm like that? I'm hurt!
—Yeah, yeah. Don't be dramatic, wanna hear or not?
—I'm listening.
—I was painting some sketches.
—Of who?
Wendy swallowed saliva and accepted her fate, Sam might be an idiot but he was a good boy.
—Juliette Wilkes.
—The girlfriend of Erik Rowle?
—WHAT?!
Wendy blushed hard, embarrassed and hid her face on Sam's shoulder.
—Well, kinda. You know Slytherin pureblood girls, sadly most of them have a marriage arranged since they were little. Alice had a crush on one and well, I feel bad for her. She was so in love with Narcissa Black even if she heard that the girl was on an arranged marriage with the Malfoy heir...
—You trying to discourage me?— Wendy scoffed.
—Quite the opposite, if you like her, go for it. I heard that neither Wilkes or Rowle wants to be in a relationship and prefers to be friends.— Sam winked at her and fixed her beret.—If I had one galleon for every Gryffindor girl I know who's madly in love with a blonde Slytherin girl, I probably have two and that's a lot.
—I-I'm not madly in love!— Wendy protested.
—Wendy, you look like a red apple and I don't refer about your hair.
—Haha. Very funny.
—Can I see the sketches?— Sam asked curiously.
Wendy sighed and showed him the sketches.
—If you wanna feel like Alice, I suggest the last one. Black highlights looks nice on platinum blond hair.— Sam indicated the sketch, not touching them.
—Mhm, but I like how the coral pink highlights matches more her vibes.
—Your art is so cool. Sadly, the sketchbook is full of Miss blondie locks.
—That's the weirdest compliment someone gave to my art but the blondie locks nickname will going to be useful for my diary.
And she was saying the truth, now Wendy a better codename for Juliette Wilkes than Blonde Juliet.
