It was about midnight, and you couldn’t sleep. Dreamland was peaceful and quiet, with most residents getting peaceful sleep in their homes. But you just couldn’t, for some reason.
You idly pick up your phone and look through your contacts. Most everyone is asleep, but you knew one person who may still be awake…
Despite the fact that he doesn’t text much, you message your boyfriend, Meta Knight. He’s not great with cell phones, and he usually prefers to call or FaceTime, treating it almost like an advanced walkie talkie or communication device of that sort. You showed him how to use apps, but he never really opened any of them unless he needed to.
The chances of him responding were slim, but you decided to go for it anyway.
Y/N: Hey Meta Knight… are you up?
A few minutes later, he responds.
Meta: What is the matter? You typically do not message me at such a late hour.
Y/N: I’m sorry. I just can’t sleep, I wanted someone to talk to.
It takes him a minute to respond.
Meta: How come you didn’t call me?
Y/N: I can’t sleep, but I’m still tired. I didn’t really feel like calling
Meta: I understand. What did you want to discuss?
Y/N: Anything really. What are you up to?
Meta: I finished some evening patrols. Currently I am in my chambers, preparing to rest. Yourself?
Y/N: I’m just laying in bed rn
Meta: What is “rn”?
You forgot that Meta Knight doesn’t really understand text abbreviations. You have explained them before, but he finds them confusing and unnecessary.
Y/N: It stands for right now, sorry I forgot you don’t like those
Meta: I still do not understand why they are necessary.
Y/N: It’s just faster to type, I guess
Meta: Typically, we would only use abbreviations such as those for code words and secrets. It feels odd to me.
Y/N: I’ll try to remember that next time, sorry again
Meta: You apologize too much.
There’s a bit of silence for a couple of minutes. You weren’t sure what to type after that whole discussion. At some point you realized how late it was getting. You almost put down your phone, until it buzzed again.
Meta: I just finished my preparations. I am currently in my own bed as well.
Y/N: You talk kind of serious over text, hehe
Y/N: But I know you’re a little softie~
Meta: How so?
Y/N: Hmmm dare I bring up… your sweet tooth?~
Meta: Enough. I now see where this was going.
A common occurrence between the two of you is when you threaten to bring up his sweet tooth. Ever since you found out about his love for sweets, especially chocolate, you would constantly poke at him about it. Not in a mean way though, it was more of a teasing habit.
Y/N: Come onnn, we both know it :))
Y/N: I know you love it when I bring you sweeeets
Meta: I do not have a sweet tooth! Everyone can treat themselves once in a while… it is a rare occurrence!
Y/N: Hmm, I guess I shouldn’t bring you any sweets next time I see you
Y/N: You know, since you rarely eat sweets…
Meta: …Fine. Perhaps I have a bit of a sweet tooth.
Y/N: Wow, I didn’t think you would fold so easily Mety~
Meta: I would not admit such a thing out loud.
Meta: And… was that a typo of sorts?
Y/N: What was a typo?
Meta: “Mety”
Y/N: Uh well erm maybe kind of sort of perhaps
You look at the typing bubble in anticipation. That nickname for him was only something you said to yourself or in your head, never to his face. But if you had to test it out, it’s probably easier over text anyways.
Meta: It is cutesy. I like it, but it is too cutesy.
Y/N: Awww what’s the matter, it suits you ;)
Meta: If you are the one saying it… I will allow it.
Meta: But not in front of the crew. Please.
Y/N: Alright. I’m fine with being the only one that knows the cute, sugar loving, adorable side of you~
Meta: I am okay with that as well.
For a moment, the chat goes silent, and you think only about him. Meta Knight. That’s all that you can think about. His wings… his cape… his gloves… and his adorable face underneath that mask of his. Everything about him is so captivating and perfect, it’s almost difficult to snap out of those thoughts once they start.
But your lovey dovey train of thought is interrupted by your loud yawn. At this point, you had been texting for a while, and you were actually starting to get sleepy. Almost on cue, Meta Knight sends a message.
Meta: It is quite late. It would be advised that we both get some sleep.
Y/N: Yeah, I agree. I was just getting sleepy :p
Y/N: Are you stalking me? Hehe
Meta: No, although the timing of your exhaustion is quite a coincidence.
Y/N: Yeah
Y/N: I kinda do wish you were here though. Even if you were stalking me hehe
Y/N: Okay that came out bad
Y/N: Uh
Meta: I wish you were here as well.
Meta: I understand what you meant.
Y/N: Yeah…
A few more minutes pass. At this point, you’re about to say good night, until a bit of a longer message shows up from him.
Meta: I really do miss you. I believe tomorrow night I may be free, since we do not have a particularly big mission during the day. I know I do not express it much, but I enjoy my time with you. I hope to see you tomorrow, my dear. I love you very much, you deserve the stars and beyond.
Y/N: I love you too. So much ^///^
Y/N: And yes, tomorrow sounds great
Meta: Perfect.
Y/N: But I just wanted to ask…
Y/N: Um well… would you wanna stay the night tomorrow?
Meta: At your place?
Y/N: Yeah
Meta: Of course, on one condition.
Meta: Make sure to have those sweets on hand.
Y/N: Hehehehe, will do Mety~
Meta: Good night, sweetheart.
Y/N: Good night love! :)
