"So um what do you like to do poppy",Henry said trying to have some conversation with his new daughter only to be meet with silence so he continues driving and eventually reaches his house. He opens the door and lets poppy in first to let her feel comfortable and he smiles as he sees her rushing into the house to go find her own room. He never thought he would ever become a dad at all let alone at 22 yet he worries as he knows that some people will assume the worse or even target his new stepdaughter only because she is a girl. The worries start rushing through his head but he breathes in and out a bit to cool himself down and he goes inside his small house. He immediately went to his chair near the fireplace to sit and rest for a bit as he knew that tomorrow was going to be a long day. Not even an hour after he started his nap he was woken up by the noise of some markers falling as he quickly notices that poppy decided to draw on his face using the markers.
"There now you look more beautiful now dad" Poppy said all while she was smirking like a dog that decided to mess up the new carpet on purpose. Henry was angry at poppy for what she did all the while she was giggling at what she had done but he didn't want to punish her or beat her up for what she did as he believes that is wrong so he comes up with a much more genius plan....
"Poppy Wilson", Henry said furiously. "As punishment for what you did you will have to take a bath", Henry said all the while he was now smirking Poppy's eyes widen in fear as she started to scream, "No I DO NOT WANT TO TAKE A BATH AT ALL", before she started running away from henry to avoid her fate. Henry exclaimed, "Hey get back here" before he started to chase Poppy around the house for the next 20 minutes but eventually Henry was able to surprise Poppy by scooping her up quickly as soon as she got out a closet "NO YOU CAN"T TAKE ME I HATE YOU", Poppy yelled while henry was taking her to the shower place but it was no use as her stepdad had already decided what her fate would be. Henry did not think he would easily be able to clean Poppy as the only things he had ever clean to were animals and broken toy parts but surprising Poppy acted like a rabid animal which he had dealt with before so he was gently able to clean her up and give her new clothes which he had bought the day before which while they were boy clothes Poppy didn't care as all she wanted to do was get out of this bath.
It was getting time for dinner soon so Henry quickly lit up the fireplace and started working on making dinner in time for the both of them.....which ended up in disaster as he accidently tripped on some ketchup and accidently burnt the meatloaf he was making for the both of them. Henry sighed as he started questioning if he would ever be a good dad or not which stopped once he heard giggling coming from his stepdaughter who was laughing which made Henry start to laugh as well with his daughter and he tried to pull her into a hug but she quickly stepped back and took a marker to write on Henry's face, 'You Tried' "There you go Pa the look fits you much better" Henry wanted to feel angry but instead he smiled and ruffled her hair and went to go and try making dinner again only this time poppy decided to watch as well wondering what he was making.
Eventually dinner was ready and they began to eat the casserole Henry had made using the remains of the meatloaf that wasn't burnt and some of the cheese he was gifted by the train conductor in the factory Katherine had given back at work oh wait that reminds him he needs to go to work tomorrow he was about to start preparring to get ready for tomorrow but then decided to maybe just stay up a bit longer to help Poppy sleep and be the dad she deserves.
They quickly finished dinner and he brought her to her room and tucked her into the bed. "Im still not going to call you dad ever",Poppy said in a tired tone, "Plus the name Poppy wilson sucks" Henry chuckled abit at her remarks, "Well too bad that Im your dad now Popper" said in an equally sassy tone. Poppy didn't reallly like the name Popper so much to the point she quickly fell asleep in less then 5 seconds of him saying that which made him smile and he says quietly "goodnight my little red haired gremlin" He then started to head out of the room but looked back at his step daughter one more time before he went to the fire place and slept on the chair knowing soon his life would change for the better.
