Work Text:
"Gran, other me, my kind of-but not really, yet at the same time twin brother. I have a semi-important question for you," said Djeeta, looking at her counterpart working on paperwork in their now shared office.
It was late at night with only the two captains awake in the Grandcypher as the ship itself was gently moving through air on autopilot. Both captains found themselves in their office trying to catch up on paperwork that had accumulated over the past few months as the chaos, both literally and figuratively, had finally settled from Lucilius and Belial's plots and schemes to end the world.
"Uh-huh, go for it. What's your 'semi-important' question?" was the reply as Gran continues working on his paperwork, not yet meeting his counterpart's eyes.
Djeeta felt a tad bit of dread before saying her question, as if her heart was reminding her of the answer to the question she was about to ask and perhaps a sense of fear or was it relief? In that her other self wasn't able to completely read her mind.
"Gran, are you in a relationship with Seofon?" Djeeta finally asked her question. The pen, which was inking the paper, immediately stopped as Gran paused, staring at his semi-twin sister in complete befuddlement. A pregnant silence overcame the pair for about a minute as Djeeta nervously tapped her fingers on the office's desk as she waited for a response.
Gran takes a moment to mouth out his words trying to confirm the veracity of the question he was asked. Gran asked, "Do…Do you mean a romantic relationship with Seofon, like…like, am I in love with him, Djeeta?"
"Yes," was Djeeta's verbal confirmation.
"No?! I like Seofon, but I don't love him?!" Gran responds.
Djeeta takes a sigh of relief and responds, "Oh, good, that's a relief. That makes everything less awkward for us."
If Gran was confused before, it was nothing compared to now. "Djeeta, please explain, I don't understand anything about this. Where is this question coming from? And what did you see that led you to this conclusion!?” Gran begged his counterpart.
"Gran, I need to tell you something important this time," Djeeta said, a smile growing on her face equal to the absurdity of this moment as she clasped Gran’s hands together,
”Are you sweating right now? Why are your hands so warm?"
"Djeeta! Please?!"
Djeeta giggled before speaking in her most authoritative voice. "Gran, me and Seofon are dating; we are boyfriend and girlfriend."
Gran stared into Djeeta's eyes, his eyes darting rapidly, trying to ascertain the truth in Djeeta’s gaze. "On Bahamut's wings, you aren't screwing with me, this isn't some elaborate scheme to get out of paperwork tonight."
"What do you take me for?! We both made a commitment. I'm not just going to saddle you with the work just because I hate desk work." Djeeta shot back.
Gran pulled his hands back as he crossed his arms in staring at his twin in pure disbelief, "How and why?"
Djeeta answered, "Well, as far as 'why,' what me and Seofon can tell, while most of our memories seem to have been merged alongside the worlds, maybe because our relationship was at a higher 'status' together because I was the singularity and Seofon’s connection to the boundary, I guess it happened to cross..."
"No, I could figure out that part, I'm asking how on earth Seofon won you over and why in all of the skies did you let him win?"
A flash of annoyance crossed over Djeeta's face, and she huffed back, "Is it really so unrealistic that a kind, attractive, and ever-helpful guy would be someone I could be attracted to?"
"When that person is Seofon, someone we both have legitimately considered banning from the crew on multiple occasions, yes?!" Gran argued back continuing to level his critcisms, "Yes, it's unrealistic. I mean, allright, I can understand on a physical attraction level why he would appeal to you. I mean, Seofon, physically speaking is my type of man that I, well we, both like. But emotionally, he's simultaneously our semi-reliable older brother, and our irritating-as-hell younger brother. How did he make it to the finish line when it comes to you?!"
Like an animal trying to distract a hunter from its wounded body, Djeeta fires her targeted response, "Type of men, huh? I wonder if my relationship with Seofon carried over. Did any of my twin brother's relationships carry over?"
"Huh?" A small blush peeked on Gran's face in the dim candlelight of the office. "Don't change the subject, we’re talking about your love life right now not…,” Gran trailed off trying to cover up the opening he had created for his sister.
"Not 'mine', your right we haven’t so let’s talk about yours it’s only fair, brother,” a devilish smile crossed onto Djeeta’s lips as she continued speaking, finding her one avenue to equalize this conversation. She pondered aloud, "Now that I think about it, you've been spending a lot of time with Percival lately haven't you Gran?"
"Nope, you are not turning the table on me; let's get to talking about you and Seofon, Djeeta," Gran replied with fierce determination and a growing blush.
"Yeah, I'm inviting you to the table instead, brother. If you want to talk about me and my choices, then bring it!" Djeeta challenged.
"It's on, but don't blame me if you go on regretting your choices afterwards, sister!" was the reply.
And so, what ensued was the first of many of the currently untrodden ground of petty sibling arguments between the pair of captains. As the argument raged on, the paperwork lay undone, and it wasn't until each captain was able to hear the footsteps of other crewmates waking up for the day that the promised work finally got completed.
