Work Text:
Shouto Todoroki was stoic, calm, dense, and cold. All very much different than Izuku Midoriya who was excitable, warm, and wore his heart on his sleeves. Yet somehow, some way, the two got together. It was awkward, they still didn't have the understanding nor experience so they were often just going off their gut. That being said, Shouto wanted to be kind for once, he wanted to work hard to be a better person. Since he had such an amazing person who was actually worthy of his kindness in his eyes as his boyfriend, he wanted to try to plan a date.
That ended up being harder than he had thought.
Shouto was in his dorm room, sat upon his futon and staring at the ceiling, this was where it happened. Where he had kissed Midoriya and made him his. It felt incredible to the boy to just know that something he never knew he wanted... No... Needed, was finally his. Of course when you have something you needed, you take good care of it, that's just common sense. In his eyes, Midoriya was all he needed and more. Just the thought of the green haired boy made him feel warm and fuzzy inside (something that would have previously had him thinking he was sick) and he loved that.
After a few more brief moments of staring at the ceiling, he sat up, maybe he should take Midoriya on a date. That would be very nice, it would very much show his appreciation for the boy and he could spend time with him. Many different wins, in many different ways. Of course this wouldn't be easy, nothing is ever easy, he was the son of him... so they somewhere less populated. And as UA students they don't have much time to do things. They only have Sundays off after all...
This would take a lot of thinking.
And advice.
Most likely Bakugo.
Shouto mentally prepared for having to ask Bakugou for advice and help with this plan of his. To go ask Midoriya on a date and hopefully it would be perfect.
Shouto spent a while working out the time he would have to try to schedule the date. It was a hard feat, much because after school Midoriya would either train or study, and Shouto wouldn't ever make him choose between that. Sundays he does a lot of analysis so he would have to tell him ahead of time but then where would they go? He had to check the cafe's schedules (Cafe because Midoriya would feel guilty going to a restaurant) and then have to check with their schedules.
It wasn't long before Shouto realized just how hard it was to make a day that matched his schedule so it would be even harder to match Midoriya's. There wasn't many cafes that fit what they both felt comfortable with and even then, some were too far to walk to, some were too expensive and would make Midoriya feel guilty to let him anything and then to top it all off, none of them. Not one that was nearby, worked on Sundays. His plan was to be thrown out the window as his classmates sometimes said. He probably shouldn't throw his papers out the window... that would be littering. Either way, he needed something different. This is where having to go to Bakugou for advice comes in.
Maybe he should be prepared to be turned down...
Shouto headed out of his dorm, throwing away the papers of the previous attempts at planning a date (in the trash), and went down to Bakugo's dorm room.
Before he even got in, he heard lots of yelling from the blonde boy inside, seemed to be yelling at Kirishima. He knocked a few times, he got a very aggressive "WHO THE HELL IS IT?!" Followed by stomping as the door flew open. There a very frazzled Bakugou stood while Kirishima seemed slightly guilty of angering him. "What do you want half-and-half?" Surprisingly the blonde slightly settled, seems his anger wasn't directed at others today, and he seemed curious as to the dual haired boy being at his door.
Shouto peered in slightly before turning back to Bakugo. "I need help knowing what Midoriya likes because I want to set up a date with him. Is... Is this a bad time?" Shouto raised an eyebrow with faint concern on his face. Bakugou tsked and closed the door behind him with pointed look to the sorrowful Kirishima.
"I'll help you this once, only because I know you'll probably be waiting constantly until I help." Bakugou crossed his arms and leaned against the wall. He seemed to be checking things off in his head. Shouto waited very patiently. Bakugou sighed leaning forward. He placed his hands in his pockets and raised an eyebrow at Shouto. "Got a pen and paper?"
Shouto thanked bakugou as the blonde boy immediately fired up again as he entered his dorm again. Seems kirishima really made him angry. Shouto wouldn't get his head in-between that. He walked away mentally going over the things Bakugou had told him about. Things that Midoriya likes or dislikes.
"The nerd likes the effort, not often the actual thing. And he sure as hell hates gifts unless it's for his birthday or something celebrating him but even then, he hesitates. His favorite flavor of anything is red velvet, and he likes being able to just talk. A lot. Too much in my opinion but you like that probably."
Shouto did infact like to hear Midoriya speak, he likes how enthusiastic he gets, he should choose somewhere that he could find things to ramble about. Shouto was headed back to his dorm room and ended up seeing Uraraka. He decided to go get some advice from her as well, you could never be too safe.
"Hello Uraraka, could I ask you some advice about what Midoriya may like for a date?" Shouto loomed over the brunette. She contemplated for a moment before nodding.
"I think Deku-kun would be happy with anything! Though nothing too extravagant." Uraraka enthusiastically answered Shouto. The dual haired boy nodded muttering a thanks and headed upstairs back to his dorm. This may be easier than he thought.
This was much harder than he thought. He has pulled over many different ideas just to not like most. And then finally, it hit him, he had no idea how it didn't occur to him before. It was going to be a good day to be out so maybe a walk in the park and since he likes the thought behind it... Midoriya would love it. And if he maybe made it into a small movie night for them that would be great. With sweets. Shouto had his plan now.
It took him three days to have it ready by Sunday. He kept the red velvet cupcakes, that Sato had gladly made, in the common room fridge in the very back. He checked the weather for the plan to go out on the park date. Now he just had to go with Midoriya. He headed downstairs to the second floor and knocked on Midoriya's dorm room.
"Midoriya?" There was a shuffling as the door opened.
"Todoroki-kun! What do you need?" Midoriya was wearing some pajamas and smiled warmly up at Shouto. He let a small smile creep onto his own face. Midoriya was cute.
"Want to go with me to the park? Just for a walk." Shouto graciously left out the fact it was a date, he knew it would cause Midoriya to be panicky. He wanted him to be relaxed and Midoriya would worry himself over what to wear or how to act. Midoriya's eyes lit up and he nodded.
"Yeah I don't mind! What will we be doing other than walking?" Midoriya tilted his head curiously and Shouto felt warmth in his heart at how cute Midoriya was. Shouto didn't let it show on his face.
"How about you choose?" Shouto hoped that Midoriya would accept that and move on. And luckily he did.
"Okay... What time should I be ready?" Shouto checked the current time. "How about thirty minutes? The temperature is perfect to be outside right now." Shouto earned himself an enthusiastic nod and Midoriya shut the door to change. Shouto waited patiently outside. He wore some casual clothes, nothing too fancy, already so he didn't have to worry about changing.
When Midoriya left his dorm he wore an a long sleeve shirt and shorts on. Shouto smiled warmly and gestured for Midoriya to follow. The green haired boy bounced on his feet as he asked about the details
"So where are we going? There's quite a few parks in Mustafa." The green haired boy thought about the parks there was. There was the Green side park just a few minutes from UA, not really one for a walk though and more to play. Normally Younger kids are seen there. There was wayville park, just a bit farther than Green side and much better for walks. Often used for a picnics-
"We're going to Night crane park. It has many gardens and a little bit out the way so not as many people." Shouto grabbed Midoriya's hand, which immediately started to sweat, guiding him along.
"O-oh! Okay." Midoriya's face started to heat up, Shouto gave him a break and didn't address it. When they arrived after about 30 minutes of walking it was slightly past noon. Sun high in the sky, and the flowers in the gardens shining and thriving.
"Let's go." Shouto tugged on midoriya's hand and guided him along. There were some camellias and spider lilies which caught Midoriya's attention. He quickly broke away from Shouto enjoying all the different species while shouto just watched his boyfriend enjoy.
"Look there's some Tiger Lilies!"
"They have a patch of sunflowers!"
"Todoroki-kun come! Look!"
Midoriya was definitely enjoying the walk and the hours passed in a flash. When it was starting to hit 18:00, They started to head to UA again. Unfortunately it started to rain about 10 minutes into their 30 minute walk back.
"Todoroki-kun I think it's starting to rain... We should hurry." As Midoriya spoke it was already falling faster. He started to speed into a sprint. Shouto frowned and nodded quickly catching up. They didn't want to get soaked. And it was darkening like it might storm. They were quite far so they both ended up soaked by the time they were in the dorms.
Shouto ran a hand through his wet hair getting it out his face. Midoriya shivered at the cold."...I didn't think it would rain..." Shouto felt irritated. He had checked the forecast and a storm hadn't been on it. He sighed feeling annoyed at the plan going off the rails and noticed Midoriya started to walk up to his dorm room.
"I-I'm going to change... And I really liked the walk Todoroki-kun!" Shouto nodded and headed upstairs to go change as well. He had to walk up much more stairs than Midoriya, it wasn't a pleasant feeling especially in his soaked clothes.
Shouto got to his dorm, peeling off the clothes clinging to his body. He got into some more pajama like clothes after taking a shower. He dried his hair and walked downstairs. He spotted Midoriya headed to the common room wearing his All Might pajamas and fell into step with the green haired boy.
"Im sorry for it raining."
Midoriya turned to face him little bit more and chuckled lightly. "It wasn't your fault. It's not like you can control the rain." Shouto sighed, still feeling guilty.
"I still dragged you out to take a walk... Infact I have some red velvet cupcakes in the fridge, how about make it up to you?" Midoriya perked up and nodded.
"Red velvet is my favorite! But it still was not your fault Todoroki-kun..." Midoriya insisted as he walked to the kitchen with Shouto.
They went inside the kitchen to find Kaminari, holding a tray of empty cupcakes, and eating the last cupcake. Shouto narrowed his eyes at the electric blonde. "Kaminari those were mine. Why are you always eating food you know is not yours?" Todoroki felt his irritation flair up.
Kaminari froze mid chew and nervously chuckled. "Sorry Todoroki! I didn't know they were yours... I'll make it up to you in the future!" He finished chewing making a pleading expression.
Shoto pinches the bridge of his nose and then waved Kaminari away. "Just.. whatever you better." He turned around and sighed guiding Midoriya away. "I guess cupcakes are off... What about we watch a movie instead?"
"Yeah sure let's go." Midoriya looked slightly disappointed. "Those cupcakes would have been nice though..."
"Well I know what will cheer you up. It's the new All Might documentary." Shouto added, like dangling a carrot in front of a bunny. Midoriya perked up quickly now basically vibrating with excitement.
"Really?!" The green haired boy's eyes were shining brightly, a smile clear on his face.
"Yes it is." Shouto let a small smile creep onto his face.
Shouto grabbed his laptop from his backpack and placed it in front of the futon him and Midoriya were on.
Midoriya shifted to let Todoroki sit beside him. Todoroki started to set up the movie starting to let it play. He laid down and wrapped his arms around Midoriya's waist. Midoriya blushed but let it happen as the documentary started to play catching his attention quickly.
"All might was the greatest hero in his prime as-" Shouto wasn't paying attention much. He focused on how Midoriya looked captivated by the screen. It was a wonderful angle that Shouto had.
About halfway through the documentary, the storm had been getting worse gradually, the power went out. Shouto sighed and let go of Midoriya, shutting his laptop and putting it in his backpack. He laid down beside Midoriya again opening his arms invitingly.
"You just wanna try to sleep?" Shouto said, voice holding exasperation. Midoriya nodded reluctantly. He laid down in shouto's arms and closes his eyes.
"I really did want to finish it." Midoriya muttered against his chest.
"I know. We'll finish it tomorrow." Shouto murmured against Midoriya's hair. Midoriya nodded and fell asleep. Shouto soon afterwards.
At around one in the morning, Midoriya sat up in a flash, "WAIT! That was a date?!" Midoriya stared at Shouto incredulously, he couldn't believe it. "Yes it was. I didn't want you to freak out so I didn't tell you that. But planning was hard, and it still didn't end up how I wanted." Shouto muttered groggily running a hand through his hair.
Midoriya looked offended but laid down face red now. "I can't believe you did that... But thank you. It was very nice... Maybe we could do it again sometime, and plan together."
"Your welcome. And yeah. We could do that again someday. Now let's go to sleep." Shouto wrapped his arms around Midoriya again, closing his eyes and burying his face in his hair.
"good night Shouto." Midoriya closed his eyes, face still slightly heated. But he felt happy inside, a smile creeping onto his face, And so did Shouto.
"Good night Midoriya."
