“Dearly Beloved.”
“Today we gather here today to witness two souls forge an eternal bond, as fate decrees.”
“The union is no mere vow; it is a covenant chosen by fate and will.”
“If any would challenge this covenant, speak now.”
“Else this union shall endure for all of eternity”
It was never really supposed to be like this. It is too late now....
The newly crowned king of demons having to face a fate worse than death. To see the people he loved most, choose each other, while his feelings will forever have to stay hidden..

Diavolo was in his office, preparing for his role as the officiant to pepepoopoos and Lucifer's wedding. He had written down what he was going to say, each word feeling like a dagger piercing his chest. Each word further cementing the reality that was upon him. They were really getting married… And he would not be the one to marry them.
In his hands was a glass of his most expensive Demonus. For courage, he told himself. Maybe if he was drunk enough, he would actually get through the ceremony, without letting them know how he actually felt. Or maybe it would give him the courage to object, letting them both know how they truly felt. He sighed knowing that he was only lying to himself. He may be the demon of all demons, but even he was not so cruel as to ruin this. A union between a demon and a human was everything he originally wanted. A testament to his goal of uniting the three realms. Proof that a demon and a human could not only get along but actually love each other.
Now, it is his biggest curse to bear.
A gentle knock on his door knocked him out of his stupor.
Smoothing his hair, making himself look more presentable, “Come in” said Diavolo, remembering to sport the grin that he was known for. It was Lucifer. And he looked so… Beautiful.
Diavolo’s breath was taken away. For a moment he just stood there starstruck, taking in everything he could. Lucifer’s wings. His white suit, one reminiscent of the angelic apparel he donned when he had first fallen into the DevilDom. When he had first met the man, Diavolo thought he was the most beautiful thing he had seen, even when his clothes were stained with the blood of his sister. He was unlike anything he had seen before.
Funny how this sentiment still holds true even on this day. What a cruel joke.
Lucifer looked so… happy. His face, free of the usual stress and worry.
“Lord Diavolo, please forgive me for the intrusion. I have some news that I would like to share with you.” said Lucifer, his speech faltering for a moment and his gaze not quite reaching Diavolo's eyes.
He took a deep breath in, “I wish to not be considered for the position of First Consul.” he said timidly, unlike his usual self. Diavolo was stunned, his mouth agape, unsure of what to make of this. Lucifer continued on, his face full of uncertainty, “I want to make use of this opportunity, to spend time with my loved ones. My brothers have all grown up now. We may all be doing different things with our lives but I want to make sure that I am there for them this time. I also wish to spend as much time as I can with pepepoopoo. Humans… They only have so much time. ”
Diavolo understood what was unspoken. He knew that the time that Lucifer never got with Lilith was something that he will always regret.
To not be even able to have Lucifer’s presence beside him was something that Diavolo had never even considered before. His brain protested, telling him that he should be selfish and to hold Lucifer’s devotion over his head.
However, in his heart he knew he could never actually do that. He would do anything for Lucifer. Just as he had broken the laws of life and death for him, he would even break his own heart - Just to make him happy.
For a moment there was silence. “I understand,” said Diavolo, his voice cutting through the silence. “Your brothers are always such a handful. Someone needs to make sure they don't get into trouble” he said, followed by his booming laughter.
Lucifer smiled, hearing Diavolo’s response. “I wish to thank you for everything that you have done for me.” Lucifer said while pulling Diavolo in for a hug. Diavolo hesitated for a moment, his hands staying still at his sides, before ultimately hugging him back. With this, Diavolo’s heart broke a little further.
They just stayed like that for a moment. Eventually, Lucifer drew away. Looking down at his watch, Lucifer said,”Oh it seems that the ceremony will begin soon. I shall leave to carry out the final preparations. I will see you at the altar, Lord Diavolo.” He took a bow, before leaving.
With his departure, Diavolo's smile faded as well. Tears welled in his eyes and soon he started crying. All he could do was cry.

It was time for the wedding to start. Diavolo made his way to the altar, making sure to hide his sorrow from everyone. Lucifer was already there, standing tall. He took his position to his right.
Soon, the wedding band started to play and with it, Pepepoopoo walked down the aisle. They were donned in a beautiful red wedding outfit. Everyone's eyes were on them as they made their way to their position. All diavolo could think about was Pepepoopoo themself. They had taught him so, so much. He never really expected much from the human that had come to his world. The human always managed to surprise him at every turn, teaching him all about human culture. Teaching him about humanity’s will and how strong humans actually are. Teaching him about their empathy and the love that they can hold for others. The way that they can move even the toughest of demons. Pepepoopoo always showed him love, somehow making the demon king a tiny bit more human. All of which, Diavolo would never forget. Which is why he would do everything he can to help them be happy. Even if it means that they will never know his true feelings.
Soon, Pepepoopoo took their place beside Lucifer. It was time for him to start.
“Dearly Beloved.” He addressed the crowd.
“Today we gather here today to witness two souls forge an eternal bond, as fate decrees.”
It was as if only the three of them were in the room. He looked at the way they looked at each other, as if they were the only thing in this world. Their eyes meet each other, full of love and mirth, waiting excitedly for the moment they get to say “I do”. If only they knew this was how he looked at the both of them.
“The union is no mere vow; it is a covenant chosen by fate and will.”
He was sure the heartbreak was beginning to show in his eyes. He could hear his own voice cracking. Though he knew no one was looking at him, he never let the smile on his face waver.
“If any would challenge this covenant, speak now.”
He had screamed “I Object” as he took both Pepepoopoo’s and Lucifer's hands in his hands. He declared his love for the both of them boldly and professed how he had wished to marry them both. Both Lucifer and Pepepoopoo stood there shocked at a loss for words. Diavolo himself was shocked at what he had done. He's sure that he had ruined the wedding now, expecting to be met with anger from the both of them. However, Pepepoopoo gently took his hand and brushed their lips against it, softly whispering that they felt the same way as well. They turned to Lucifer and asked them if he felt the same as well. He hesitated for a moment before answering that he too felt the same.
At that moment, he heard a cough from one of the demon brothers and was brought back to the cold silence of reality that had persisted for too long. With that, he carried on with the final sentence of his speech.
“Else this union shall endure for all of eternity”
What a wonderful lie that he had created for himself. Shame that it will never come true.
