Work Text:
“I saw you and P’Pond kissing,” Fourth says, all business.
Phuwin stops tinkering with his keyboard long enough to send him a dubious look, eyelashes slanting like painted brushstrokes. The light in Phuwin’s room isn’t super dim or anything, but Fourth has to squint to catch the fading brown of Phuwin’s hair, and all the places where the natural darker brown has started to grow out. He remembers, unbidden, of Pond laughing softly about the elegance of brown while brushing a finger along the shell of Phuwin’s ear.
“Like, in a dream?” Phuwin asks.
Fourth makes some sort of tetchy noise between his teeth, “The fuck would I dream about you and P’Pond kissing? Stop doing that—you’re not as clever as you think, Phuwin.”
Phuwin’s begun laughing, but his hands go up in the air as if in surrender, and he returns to fuss with his keyboard again. It’s strange, Fourth has trouble reading him, and that has never really happened before. Seems like happens all the time now whenever Pond comes up.
He is far from a prude but he understands why fans often lose it when Pond and Phuwin do so much as touch fingertips; it’s easy to forget that Phuwin tussles with Pond on the couch until Pond loses his shirt (or pants—Phuwin’s not picky), because they’re both too aware of their own friendship. And friends are often not hyperaware of their own friendship.
It’s—weird. Fourth is enjoying himself but it’s so goddamn weird.
“Oh,” Phuwin thumbs at his phone. “Pond just landed at Suvarnbhumi.”
Fourth watches him text one-handed with narrowed eyes, still testy about his own best friend being secretive with him, “Oh yeah? What does Pond say? Is dear Pond hungry? Are you going to tell Pond what to eat and where to eat and with how much spice?”
“Um-”
“You know, I just don’t understand why you have to hide it from me.” Calling Pond by his name has left a strange aftertaste in Fourth’s mouth, so he gets even more annoyed, and then he thinks that he’s being kind of a bitch so he tries to do damage control, “I mean, even when I saw you guys kissing in the bar that one time, I didn’t even tell anyone…”
“You saw that?” A hint of panic. “That was a year ago!”
Fourth stares at him, unblinking. They have a lot to talk about.
