Work Text:

The nights at diasomnia are one in the same most nights. Everyone’s spread out in the main hall, chatting amongst themselves. Malleus usually out to clear his mind, his way of therapy so he says. Sebek is either with the other first years or stumbling around trying to find the prince around the school grounds. Lilia online, yelling at another loss.

However, tonight; Silver found himself lying on his father’s bed. Unable to reside at his own dorm because his roommate decided that other classmates in their shared room was a good idea. Yet, with Silver being someone who can either sleep everywhere or cannot sleep for the life of him, not being able to have a calm haven (his room) has been taking a heavy toll on him, especially after the over-blot.

Tonight, however, was one of those nights where he was trapped awake at the sound of his own thoughts. Banging his skull into a pounding headache, ever since Malleus came out of his over-blot; Silver finally was able to take a breather and connect to his past. It took a long while before he was able to face Malleus eye to eye again. Guilt poured out of his heart as the ghost of his lineage haunted him. Terrified he was, Lilia was there every step… yet, it had started keeping him awake and for long periods of time instead of his usual need to sleep. Making it difficult to adjust, his sleep was already messed up; this was just another thing to pile up.

So, while Silver sat on the bed wrapped in a blanket, thoughts racing faster than he could keep up; reenacted every memory of his childhood. The normalcy that was placed there, how he was raised in the privilege of his brother and his father like it was nothing. The absolute horrors that occurred because of his relatives, the same blood running in his veins were the same one that slaughtered so many Fae including Meleanor, the Queen. The war that skewed the entire briar valley, the event that ruined Malleus’s what could have been normal childhood. Lilia’s past love and eternal bond broken because of those whose eyes gleamed the same as his.

If only he could remove the sight that allowed him to see that which is the damnation he is truly cursed with. Silently tears welled within his eyes, falling with grace and sorrow. Gentle sobs escaped Silvers lips, trembling slightly as he burrowed deeper into the blanket at the electronic grunts of the fighting game Lilia was playing that kept him awake.

After joining Night Raven Silver had found it difficult being vulnerable and asking for Lilia’s attention, having it become harder and harder to connect and confide in his father than an upperclassman he pretends he is. Avoiding the thoughts, pushing down the emotions that boiled daily in regard to his position as Malleus’ personal guard and as a student.

His face was hot now, being under the covers for so long. Peaking out at what game his father was enjoying, surprisingly enough the TV was turned off. Silence dreaded the room, and silver perched as his heart sped up.

“Silver.”

The melodic voice of Lilia came up beside him, a chilled hand pressed against his forehead, Déjà vu flooded Silver’s heart.. “You’re quite warm, have you been doing okay? not getting sick on me are you Silver my dear”

The familiarity and concern might not have done much before, but Silver had dearly missed this. He longed for his father to coddle and care for him like he once did. Tears burned his eyes, tears streaming down his face before loud sobs echoed in the room.

“You silly child, still not getting enough sleep are you?” reaching towards his son’s face he softly wiped the tears. Silver said nothing but his emotions embraced the affection and leaned into his father.

“Now, now Silver, you know what the past entailed is the past; nothing in this world could ever change that. Whether it be your biological parents or me, you will live with the love of thousands my boy.” Lilia sat down on the bed, combing Silvers hair with his fingers as Silver’s head found Lilia’s shoulder.

He had calmed quickly letting the rhythmic combing lull him into a zen.

Humming interrupted his light sleeping, Lilia carrying the soft tunes throughout the room

“When you wake up from this night, surely the morning sun will burn again

We can only repeat what our souls do

And when the birds chirp, surely that sky will blaze again

In your eyes,

Surely the colours of dawn will glow again~”

Lilia’s voice sent a wave of warmth over his sleeping son’s body, the hard-earned rest that he was avoiding since the day they left the dream world crashing full force as he was sent back to the cottage, where things didn’t seem so complicated.

“Sleep now my sweet boy”
