Work Text:
It’s been 10 years since they graduated from UA. Ochaco had been married to Izuku for 5 years now. She hadn’t heard a word from Mina. Ever since they broke up 8 years ago, they had gone no contact. She hadn’t thought about it for ages till she was scrolling through twitter and stumbled across a news post, reading,
‘Red Riot and Pinky save children from fallen building.’
Ochaco sighs; she never wanted to think about her again, from what they lost all those years ago. She puts down her phone and looks over to her best friend, Tsuyu. She was grateful to still be friends with her; working with her was great, and she couldn’t ask for more. “Are you heading home?” Tsuyu looks over to Ochaco, seeing her put away her phone in her bag. “Oh, yeah, it’s getting late. You don’t mind locking up?” She asks and sees Tsuyu nod; Ochaco gives a small nod back and waves goodbye, heading back home for the day.
Ochaco walked home in the quiet; the only noise was the faint noises of cars and birds flying around. It was peaceful, to say the least, but deep down, her stomach was turning. Mina. That’s all that was on her mind: getting flashbacks from their past together and what they used to be. It made her feel sick to her stomach. Why did Mina have so much of an effect on her? Why couldn’t it just go away?
She was so caught up in her thoughts she didn’t even realise she had arrived home; she grabbed her spare key and opened the door and entered to see Izuku cooking. “Hi, Uraraka.” Izuku smiles, welcoming her home. “How was work?” he asks, with his usual smile on his face. It was so familiar, but it didn’t feel right, not like how she felt when she had her silly school crush; it didn’t give her the same blushing face she had back then. Not the same madly in love person she was. It was different… The thoughts of how she always pictured a marriage, all lovey-dovey, all domestic. It was like the feelings just faded or didn’t feel as strong as they once did. She tried to picture them together, but other thoughts started to invade her head. It was her face again. Ashido grinning brightly. Exactly how she remembered back when they were students at UA. Was she not really over Mina? No. Surely not; she’s married to her UA crush. It was what she always dreamed of, right?
She quickly shook her head and let out a small, weak laugh. “Oh yeah, it—it was good. Got to meet some cute kids.” Ochaco tried her best to get the ideas in her head to go away. She was married now. She’s over Ashido. That’s what she told herself. Over her. They were over… Exactly like what was going to happen. Marrying Izuku, her ‘first’ love.
“I made dinner. Why don’t you go set up the table? So we can eat.” Midoriya speaks up, ready to serve up the meal he made. Ochaco nods. “Yeah, I can—I can do that, Deku.” It was now a habit to call Izuku that; she never stopped calling him that even after they graduated. Izuku never corrected her, so the nickname just stuck; it was sentimental, from a name he was once called to be mocked to a hero. That’s what Ochaco admired so much about him; she always loved seeing people smile. It made her so happy to see others smiling. She finished up setting up the table, and Midoriya went to put their plates on the boards, serving up their food.
“This looks amazing, Deku.” Ochaco smiled. “Thank you, I’ve been taking lessons from Auntie.” Midoriya admits that he was still in contact with Mitsuki Bakugo, Katsuki Bakugo’s mother. That was nice to hear, that they still kept contact even after everything. “I’m guessing Bakugo still won’t teach you, still angry as ever, huh?” Ochaco laughs softly and looks at Midoriya. He sighs, “Y-Yeah, I don’t think he’d want me to be better than him at cooking.” He scratches the back of his neck and laughs. “Classic Bakugo,” Ochaco says, before she digs into the food. The pair eat in silence for the most part.
After dinner the pair went to wash up their dishes and headed upstairs to get ready for bed, changing into their pyjamas and then brushing their teeth before hopping into bed. “Goodnight, love,” Ochaco hears Midoriya murmur, already drifting off to sleep as soon as he reached the bed. Ochaco lets out a small chuckle, seeing him practically knocked out. “Goodnight, I–” Ochaco didn’t finish her sentence, hearing the soft sounds of breathing coming from Midoriya, and she just sighs, lying down on the bed, lying on her side facing the wall, trying to go to sleep, eventually doing so.

“You’re nothing more than his wife.”
“I knew this was going to happen; I told you. You were always going to end up with him.”
“I told you so.”

Uraraka burst awake, sitting up, sweating, the words invading her head, and she shifted and sat on the edge of her bed, and she wiped her face, wiping the sweat off before checking the time. It was a few minutes past midnight. Ochaco lets out a small noise, her head in her hands, trying to get the words out of her head, till she gives up and gets out of bed, grabs her phone, and goes to the bathroom.
She shut the door quietly and sat down on the cool tiles before shakily going on her phone, then hopped onto Twitter and found Mina’s account, one of them at least. Ochaco found her public account, where she posted silly, dumb tweets and the photos with Kaminari, Kirishima and Jiro. Ochaco stared at Mina’s photo, zooming in on the bright grinning smile she knew so well and loved. Why did it hurt so much? She didn’t even realise her eyes were watering till a tear fell down onto her phone; she leaned back against the bathroom door, and with her shaky hands, she wiped the tears off her face. She could feel the phantom touches of Mina’s hand running across her cheeks when she was at her lowest, and it only made her want to cry more.
“I-I’m so sorry…”
“I miss you.”
Ochaco cradled her phone tightly, her breathing shaky. As she just let the tears roll down her face.
“I love you.”
“I’m sorry…”
