Day 10: Picnic. Family Bonding.

Summary:

A loud morning fight pushes Ink to drag Error—and their three chaotic kids—out on an unexpected picnic. Between sibling bickering, water fights, and quiet moments by the sea, Ink and Error find rare peace together, wrapped in love, laughter, and the family they’ve built.

Work Text:

It was a normal day, just like any other, until the usual screaming of the morning was heard from downstairs.

-That's mine! —Screamed the oldest

-No it's not! It's mine, it has my name on it! —Replied the youngest

-Guys, can we not!? It's seven in the morning! —Complained the middle child

Downstairs, in the kitchen, Ink was trying not to laugh while making breakfast, while Error just facepalmed while reading the newspaper, it really was early for them to be fighting.

-HEY, DEMONS! —Screamed Error, making Ink laugh— SHUT YOUR MOUTHS!

-You shut up, you old geezer! —The oldest replied, the other two laughed

-What did that brat say? —Error put down the newspaper and started walking upstairs

-And here it comes... —Ink said in the middle of soft giggles, while putting his cooking on plates and waiting for the rest to come back— Always the same, geez

-Let go of me, old man! —The oldest kept screaming

-Dad, don't pull my clothes! Let me down! —Complained the youngest, trying to break free of Error's grip

-Why am I getting dragged by your strings? I wasn't fighting —The middle child asked, nonchalantly, lifted into the air with his strings

-Cuz you screamed as well, now eat —He left them in their seats and sat down next to Ink

-Always the same with you, jeez —Ink said, while eating some of his bacon— PJ, why did you grab BlueScreen's art supplies? You don't even draw like him

-I was practicing, and the pencil was mine anyway —The oldest replied, eating a big piece of scrambled eggs

-Again!? It was MY pencil! You took it from my art supplies box! —The youngest yelled at his brother

-Shut up BlueScreen, it was mine

-NO IT WANS'T!

-Shut up and eat! —Error slammed the plates on top of the table— Fight later, goddamnit

-Dad, you shouldn't encourage them to fight... —The middle child added while eating his bacon

-They have to let it out somehow, Gradient —Error replied— In any case, you never fight with them over art supplies since you draw on your tablet

-I'm thankful for that —He said, with a shaky voice, seeing his brothers glare at each other

-Alright, it's decided! —Ink said, standing up and slamming his hands on the table

-What? —Error asked, half a piece of bacon inside his mouth

-Huh? —The oldest and youngest said at the same time

-What's decided, papa? —Gradient asked, drinking his juice

-We're going on a picnic! —He showed a big and bright smile

- . . . —Silence from the four of them, suddenly— HUH!? —They all questioned

Not long after that morning conversation, they were all preparing their things independently, the three brothers were in their shared room making sure to bring their stuff to draw, preparing for anything the others would have in store for the other, they really liked pranks after all. On the other hand, Ink and Error were in their room, it seems Ink had everything prepared since the day before, because he just grabbed a bunch of snacks and sandwiches he had made the night before and stuffed them on the casket.

-Ink, did you plan all of this yesterday? —Error asked, making Ink flinch

-Ah... —He looked at him, nervous— Hehe, yeah, I did... I want the kids to bond a little, without trying to kill each other over art supplies

-You could learn to do that too —He replied, laughing— You beat me up cuz I broke one of your brushes, and it was an accident

-Yeah, sorry, I'm trying... —He said smiling, and went downstairs with Error— Did you pack the swimsuits? I want to surprise them

-I don't know why you asked me to, but yeah —They both sat on the couch— Hey! Are y'all ready!? —He screamed to the kids

-Coming! —BlueScreen jumped from the fifth staircase and landed

-One day you'll break your legs —Gradient scolded him and ruffled his hair

-Leave him, that way he'll learn —PJ added, with both his arms behind his neck

-HEY! —The youngest complained

-Don't start, please —Error asked, facepalming— Ink, open the portal —He grabbed the three kids with his strings

-What did we do now!? —BlueScreen moved in the air

-Do you think he'll ever get used to this? —Said Gradient, nonchalantly looking at his older brother

-Nah, don't think so —The oldest replied, with an annoyed expression

-Let's go then! —Ink opened up a portal and they all went in

They appeared at someplace, but nothing at the same time, Error himself didn't understand, there was green grass that extended a couple of kilometers, then sand, and then water, there were some crabs near the water and fish swimming far away. Error made his strings disappear and the kids fell to the ground, Ink gave them the swimsuits and told them to go change, there was a single changing booth and the three of them grabbed the swimsuits from Error's backpack, running to change, making it a race. In the end, Gradient got first, BlueScreen second, and PJ third.

While the kids changed, Ink and Error prepared the picnic, putting a piece of cloth on top of the grass and carefully putting the food, when the kids were all changed, everything was already in place. The three of them sat down and started eating, chatting with the other or drawing, while Ink and Error sat on the sand, admiring the sea.

-You've been awfully quiet —Error mentioned, not getting his gaze off of the sea

-I know —Ink replied, almost emotionless— But... I like quiet sometimes, you know? —He looked at Error, smiling honestly

-Tch —He clicked his tongue, and smiled as well— Would appreciate you liked quiet everyday

-We can't really enjoy quiet with those three —Ink giggled, while pointing at their kids, they were fighting over a cake piece

-Jesus Christ, they're fighting again —Error snatched the cake from their hands and divided it into three pieces

-Thanks dad! —BlueScreen screamed, waving

-Thank you dad! —Gradient also waved, PJ looked away and put his thumbs up

-Hehe, he's so shy... —Ink mentioned, catching Error's attention

-Who, PJ? —He asked, Ink leaned on top of his shoulders

-Yeah, he really loves you, but doesn't want you to know —He said, catching him off guard— Ah, don't tell him I told you

-Sure thing, squid —He said, smiling

After waiting for fifteen more minutes, the kids went to the water, splashing each other and making little wars, PJ created some water guns for them to play with, after almost an hour of playing, they dragged Ink and Error to the sea, they were sleeping on top of each other's shoulders. Gradient splashed Ink in the face, while BlueScreen let water run through Error's spine, waking both of them up, PJ was laughing in the back, waiting for his brothers to get them.

Ink and Error woke up and chased their kids, the other two between laughing and regretting waking them up, once they reached the water, the three of them splashed their parents without mercy, while laughing and giggling. Error opened a portal and let God knows how much water splash them from above. Ink laughed maniacally until Gradient pointed his water gun to his mouth and made him choke.

They realized hours had gone by when it was starting to get dark, so they all packed everything again and dried themselves, the kids complaining and saying they wanted to keep playing.

-Hey, did you have fun? —Ink asked, opening the portal

-Yeah... —The three of them said at the same time

-Then we'll come back another day —He replied, smiling

-But you have to stop your morning fights —Error added, the kids agreed

They came back to their house, took turns to shower, and had dinner, laughing, and discussing what to do the next time they went on a picnic.
