Chapter Text
And it had been such a good day.
A chilled breeze wafted in through the open window, wrapping around the blonde that sat glumly in the window seat, her eyes drifting over the cityscape. Her arms were folded as she leaned them on the sill, her head resting on top, tilted slightly so she could stare more at the sky than the people below. A sigh escaped her as she continued to ignore the pounding she could hear on her door, knowing they’d fade away in a matter of moments, though the mere sound had confirmed the news she’d been waiting for.
Her eyes snapped to her right as her phone rang, giving her another confirmation, but one she couldn’t ignore. A second sigh escaped her as she pushed herself away from the window, flopping on her bed as she answered the call.
“Have you heard?” Her best friend questioned, forgoing her usual pleasantries which just highlighted how excited she was, “Akari?”
“I got in.” Akari sighed, glancing at the door which was still getting knocked on, “Momo, what am I going to do?”
“Whatever do you mean Akari?” Momo questioned, not understanding the reluctance she could practically feel dripping off her friends' words, “You’ve worked hard for this.” Akari bit back the scoff she wanted to make at the comment, she’d never worked for anything, but instead of snapping she sighed.
“I guess.” She replied, glancing down at her fists, before throwing her hand towards her window, closing them, “I just… my mother.”
“UA is a prestigious school for only the best, they would have ensured she couldn’t meddle.” Momo reassured, “You’ll be a wonderful hero Akari.” A light smile crossed the blondes face.
“Thanks Momo.”
“Now, your costume? I’ve got an idea for mine but with your lack of…” Despite her initial reluctance, Akari found herself laughing as she pushed herself up to sit on the bed, her eyes landing on the costume her mother had gifted her before her exam.
“Don’t worry, I have an idea.” She smirked, walking over to the costume and plucking at the arm of the bright pink crop top and shorts that her mother had designed, shaking her head at the stark white gloves, mask and boots that also went with the design, “But do please tell me more about my lack of style.”
“That’s, that’s not…” Momo stuttered, making Akari laugh all the more.
“It’s fine Momo.” She offered, turning back from the suit to glance at the door which was still going, “I need to go, mother clearly is demanding I see her.” There was a silence on Momos end.
“I’m sure she means well.” Akari glanced down, forcing back any retort she wanted to make.
“Yeah, I’m sure.” Akari hummed, shaking her head as she heard Momo begin of apologise, “It’s fine, I’ll call you in a while Momo!” She offered with fake cheer before hanging up the call.
Akari stared down at her phone, biting her lip for a moment in worry that she’d been too harsh on her friend before shaking her head as she heard the knocks now getting louder. The blonde made her way to the door and opened it, offering a murmured apology to the maid that had clearly been tasked with retrieving her. The maid said nothing in response but cast a heavily annoyed look the teens way before turning to lead her towards the dining room. Akari slouched glancing at her phone one more before sliding it into her hoodie pocket and following. She would apologise to Momo later, but first she had to get formalities done and out the way.
Akari hummed as she walked down the pathway towards her new school, her gaze flickering around as she tried to take in everything, the reluctance that had filled her for the moment she’d gotten her acceptance now battling with her excitement. However, the blonde could not allow her reluctance to disappear, the blonde-haired silhouette of her mother who was walking to the left of her made sure of that. The grin of achievement she could see every time Akari glanced at her mother made her stomach flip, especially when she knew her mother knew about All Might.
Her suspicion of her mother admittedly was heightened by their arrival time. Akari wasn’t one to be late but being dropped off 30 minutes early, and by her mother instead of a maid, all it did was send the red flags flying in her mind. The younger blonde was trying not to let that ruin it, trying to convince herself her mother really did just want to say goodbye and that she could enjoy her time at UA without having to worry. She could finally just be confident and sure and enjoy…
A hand landed on her shoulder bringing her smack down into reality.
“Now, Akari.” Her mother, Fumiko hummed, forcing Akari to turn to her. Seeing she’d gotten her daughters attention, she quickly removed her hand and began wiping it on her business suit, “I’ve put a lot of work in, now you need to do your part.” The younger blonde looked down, sighing lightly under her breath.
“I know mother.”
“Don’t slouch.” Akari instantly straightened and lifted her head at the scolding tone, making eye contact, “You know what I expect. Don’t let me or the family down.”
“I’ll try.” Akari nodded, trying to offer a smile of reassurance which was quickly snuffed out by her mother's harsh glare that got closer as the women leaned in.
“You’ll do more than try. You’ll succeed.” Her mother's voice was no louder than a whisper but even so, still got the point home to Akari who nodded stiffly. Seeing her daughter finally getting the message, Fukimo stood up straight and cast a look over the school, a hint of disgust in her gaze, “I have no idea why you insisted on this one, your father insisted I at least let you pick something, but with All Might being here it may not be as bad for us as I feared.” She huffed, glancing back at her daughter, “You may leave, I’m going to talk to your principal about your scores and what I expect.”
“Yes mother.” Akari nodded, seeing her opportunity to leave now open and taking it without hesitation. She glanced back at the limo she’d arrived in, deciding to chance her luck, “I can get the train home.” The disgust radiating from her mother was enough for her to slam the idea down, “Or just ask Momo for a ride.”
“You will be picked up.” Akari’s shoulders sagged as she nodded.
“Yes mother.” She nodded, “I’ll see you when I’m home.” She turned to walk off when she heard her mother hum and turned her head back to see the woman glancing at her phone.
“You won’t. Your brother has an awards evening and so your father and I are flying out in a few hours. We should be back in a few weeks.” Akari didn’t know how to react to the new update but settled for an unemotional nod before she began walking off towards her classroom, whatever excitement and enthusiasm that had been in her squashed once more, a cool calm focus returning. This was for her family legacy. She was going to be a hero.
Akari was unsurprised to find the classroom empty on her arrival but nonetheless, let out a sigh of relief. Closing the door, she lifted a hand to loosen her tie, leaving it slightly crooked before tying up her hair into a ponytail and messing her fringe, so it sat a bit more carefree rather than the prim precision her mother had told the maid she’d wanted her in that morning. A hum escaped her as she moved to the back of the class, her bag placed underneath as she crossed her arms and slouched over the top of her desk, resting her head on her arms. Finding nothing else to do she closed her eyes, hoping her mother was just checking in with the principle and hadn’t managed to find All Might, knowing she would be keen to meet and introduce herself to the Number One.
The blonde was unsure how long she sat there trying to fight back her worries about her mother, but thankfully a distraction appeared before she could get too deep into her own mind. She lifted her head as the door slammed open, her eyes drifting over to the ash blonde-haired boy that had just arrived. Her head tilted as she took him in.
He was wearing their uniform, however missing the tie all together which was a choice Akari could get behind. The blonde hair on his head stuck out at every angle in what should have been considered messy but actually suited the boy. His eyes were what really took her attention, his red irises standing out even as he seemed to glare at her. She hummed and glanced away, realising she was being rude.
“Damn loser.” She heard him huff as he swung his stuff into the desk, a huff escaping her in response to the comment. Briefly, Akari debated making conversation with him but before she could even open her mouth the door opened once more, her eyes surveying each person as they walked in.
There were a few blondes, one with a tail, and one with black low lights, a blue haired tall boy that wore glasses, and a boy with red spiked haired. Her lips pursed as she watched them before her gaze once again moved to the opening door, a light flood of relief passing through at the sight of Momo.
The black-haired girl surveyed the room as she entered before politely shuffling by the bodies to the back where she could see Akari. The taller girl cast a look over her friend who was still slightly hunched over her table, already able to tell she wasn’t likely in the best of moods from the sight of her footwear. There was no way Akari would have picked those black pumps without being told to.
“Good morning Akari.” Momo offered formally with a smile, taking a seat next to the girl in an effort to boost her spirits.
“Morning Momo.” Akari smiled, relaxing as she leaned back and offered a half wave as her gaze drifted once more to the door, “How was your morning?”
“It was fine.” Momo offered, pulling out a notepad in preparation, “I had a hard time deciding how to do my hair. I do like your ponytail.”
“Ah, yeah.” Akari chuckled albeit a bit nervously as ran a hand through the hair that was tied back, “Just wanted to feel a bit more like myself.”
“Did your mother,” Momo began before pausing seeing Akari cast her a nervous gaze and shaking her head, “Oh, well, it’s very you.”
“Thanks Momo.” Akari offered with a more genuine smile, “You excited for today?”
“Of course! We’ve been working towards this for years, I’m ready to put it to good use.” Momo nodded. Akari held back the huff at the word work, and settled for a hum of agreement, her gaze flickering back around the room narrowing in on someone who’d snuck in while she’d been talking to Momo.
“Todoroki.” At the murmur from Akari, Momo followed her gaze to the boy who had just sat down, standing out from the rest with his with half white half red hair.
“Who? Do you know him?”
“Not exactly.” Akari admitted, “Mom had mentioned him.” She let out a huff and leaned back, crossing her arms, “Told me to introduce myself.”
“You can’t ignore him.” Momo chastised, already knowing what exactly the blonde had likely planned, the girl sighed and nodded.
“I know, and I won’t.” She admitted, not willing to be rude to classmates just to spite her mother, “I’d just been hoping he’d be in the other class.” Akari hummed, glancing him over, “Do you think,” the blonde cut herself off when she spotted the tall blue-haired boy going over to the ash blonde she’d noticed earlier, the blonde now relaxing with his feet on the desk. She waved Momo off as the taller girl chastised her for eavesdropping.
“Take your feet off of that desk now!” The blue-haired boy ordered, earning an eyebrow raise from both her and their blonde classmate who let out a noise of light surprise, “It's the first day and you're already disrespecting this academy by scuffing school property, you cretin!”
“You're kidding me, right?” The blonde retorted, “Your old school put a stick up your ass? Or were you born with it?” Akari felt her jaw drop at the rather impolite response before a rush of amusement filled her and she had to bite her lip to hold back her laugh, her classmates were certainly going to be different from her last bunch.
“Uh,” The blue haired boy stutters for a moment, before resetting himself, “Let’s start over. I'm Tenya Iida from the Somei Private academy.” Her calculating gaze flickered over the taller boy, trying to piece information together and eyes narrowing in realisation he was likely a relation of Inginium. She pushed away the light feeling of dread that filled her at now knowing there was another hero’s relation in her class.
“Somei, huh?” The blonde huffed, dangerous smirk over his face, “So you must think you're better than me. I'm gonna have fun tearin' you a new one.” Iida let out a gasp, staring down at the blonde with insult.
“You would threaten me? Your own classmate? Are you sure you're in the right place?” Iida questioned, clearly unhappy with the blonde who just huffed out a short laugh in response only for their attention to be taken by a green haired boy who’d appeared in the doorway, “Huh? It's him.”
Akari glanced at Momo with curiosity as the rest of the class began murmuring at the sight of the boy, her interest piqued by the gasp nearly everyone took. All she could assume was he must have done something huge in the entrance exam to get that much attention. She was almost annoyed at being one of the five recommended, really wanting to know what exactly had happened to create this interest around her new classmate, and really to get a better idea of the quirks around her. Her previous school hadn’t allowed much usage of quirks except in certain circumstances, she hoped it wouldn’t be the same here, though she doubted it seen she was training to be a hero.
The blonde turned her gaze back to her best friend, a frown on her face.
“Do you think we’ll get to use our quirks today?” She asked quietly, glancing down at her hands and curling them into fists as she spoke.
“Once we get our schedule we’ll know.” Momo answered back, glancing at her friend, “Have you been practicing?” Akari shrugged.
“Kinda, just trying to build up muscle more than anything.” She admitted, “I’m still getting a few pains.”
“Well, you didn’t really use it much during school so it may take a while.” Momo offered in comfort to her friend who half shrugged in agreement.
“Yeah, I’ve got a few exercises I’ve worked on.” She tilted her head at Momo, “Have you been learning any new…”
“If you're just here to make friends then you can pack up your stuff now.” A voice called, cutting off the blonde and dragging her attention quickly to the front of the room where she could see the outline of what looked like a talking caterpillar. “Welcome to UA’s hero course.”
Akari purposefully sat straighter, though her arms remained crossed as what she had originally believed to be a caterpillar stood up and removed what she realised was a sleeping bag. It didn’t take her long to work out that whoever this was, he would likely be their home room teacher and certainly someone she and the rest of her class would be seeing a lot of over the next coming years. It did surprise her that he’d not made himself look more presentable for first impressions but also, refreshing. UA was beginning to meet her expectations in ways she hadn’t imagined, and as such she could feel a smile dancing across her lips.
“It took eight seconds before you all shut up. That's not gonna work. Time is precious. Rational students would understand that.” He surmised to the class as he walked in, “Hello, I’m Shota Aizawa. Your teacher.” There was a murmur at the announcement, one that Akari was very confused about considering how obvious it was, “Right, let's get to it.” He rummaged around in his sleeping bag before pulling out some blue uniform, “Put these on and head outside.”
“Huh?” The whole class aside from the 3 recommendations called, voicing their confusion. Akari glanced around, seeing no one making any move before getting up herself, earning a hiss of surprise from Momo. She offered a reassuring smile as she passed before taking the uniform offered and heading towards the change room.
It didn’t take long before the rest followed her action, the corridor soon filling with quiet whispers of confusion as her classmates followed her. Akari wasn’t surprised they were following her, she’d spent the past day learning the layout and it had taken her ages to memorise, she was sure no one else had likely thought that far ahead but, well, she’d had nothing else to do.
“Hey!” A new voice called, drawing the blonde attention, her eyes meeting that of a pink girl with yellow eyes, “I can’t believe you were brave enough to go first, oh I’m Mina Ashido.”
“Akari.” She offered with a half smile reaching up to mess with her ponytail, “And really, it wasn’t anything, just wanted to get outside for a bit.”
“Oh, you like being outside?” Mina questioned, looking over the pale blonde girl as she tried to work out what her quirk could be, “No offence but you don’t look like the outdoorsy type!” Akari chuckled nervously.
“I’m just a bit of a walking contradiction.” She offered, “Love the outdoors but barely in them.” Her gaze flickered to the clock that hung inside the changing room, “we best be quick, I don’t think Mr Aizawa is one to wait long.”
“Good point.” The two quickly finished prep themselves before exiting the change room and filtering outside with the rest of the group, Akari closing her eyes for a brief moment and taking a deep breath in, the wind swirling around them lightly. Momo quickly nudged her shoulder earning a glance of annoyance.
“Get in line. I’m not going to repeat myself.” Aizawa ordered, looking over the teens who quickly huddled into two lines facing him, “This morning you will be taking a quirk assessment test.”
“What? A quirk assessment test?” The group all called, the three recommendations eyes widening lightly at the suggestion, considering they had all had their own tests.
“But orientation!” A brown-haired girl called, “We're gonna miss it!”
“If you really wanna make the big leagues, you can't waste time on pointless ceremonies.” A smirk reached across Akari’s face at the response from her teacher as the rest of her class gasped, “Here at UA, we're not tethered to traditions. That means that I get to run my class however I see fit.” There was another nervous murmur passed around the class as he continued, “You've been taking standardised tests most of your lives. But you never got to use your quirks in physical exams before. The country's still trying to pretend we're all created equal by not letting those with the most power excel. It's not rational. One day, the ministry of education will learn. Bakugo, you managed to get the most points on the entrance exam.” Akari’s gaze flickered to the ash blonde, her desire to know about her classmate's quirks growing all the more knowing that the highest points scorer was in their class, “What was your farthest distance throw with a softball when you were in junior high?” Akari watched as Bakugo seemed to think for a moment.
“Sixty‐seven meters, I think.” Akari’s eyebrow raised at the number, impressed with that score even if it had been done without the use of his quirk, he certainly had her beat.
“Right. Try doing it with your quirk.” Aizawa ordered, tossing the boy the ball and gesturing to the throwing area. Akari watched as Bakugo seemed to glance around for a second before stepping up to the plate, “Anything goes, just stay in the circle.” The ash blonde seemed to debate for a moment, “Go on. You're wasting our time.” That was the final bit of encouragement required by Aizawa.
“All right, man, you asked for it.” Bakugo replied, stretching his arm out before he turned and got into a pitching stance, Akari’s eyes narrowed as her nose twitched lightly, she watched as he pulled his arm back before putting all his might into throwing it forwards, an explosion from his hand following swiftly after as he yelled “Die!”
“Oh, whoa.” The green haired boy breathed, Akari humming and nodding her head in agreement as she lifted a hand to her eyes, trying to see how high it went.
“All of you need to know your maximum capabilities. It's the most rational way of figuring out your potential as a pro hero.” Aizawa explained, holding up what appeared to be a tracking device for the ball to indicate just how far Bakugo had managed to throw it. Akari let out a breath at the display that read 705 meters, feeling a hint of uncertainty fill her about just if she belonged around these people. Thankfully the rest of the class seemed just as impressed.
“Whoa, 705 meters, are you kidding me?” The blonde with the dark low light breathed.
“I wanna go! That looks like fun!” Mina cheered, nudging Akari lightly making the blonde chuckle nervously.
“This is what i'm talkin' about, usin' our quirks as much as we want!” A black-haired boy yelled out with excitement.
“So, this looks fun, huh?” Aizawa questioned, a hint of darkness in his tone, “You have three years here to become a hero. You think it's all gonna be games and play time?” There was a tense pause, everyone hanging on their teachers every word, “Idiots. Today you'll compete in eight physical tests to gauge your potential. Whoever comes in last has none and will be expelled immediately.”
Akari glanced at Momo who cast a look back, neither believing the man but feeling the fire beneath them to prove they weren’t just there to play games. Both of them wanted to be hero’s, to help people, and it was now their chance to prove they deserved to be there. The rest of their class let out a loud questioning yell, the girls unsure if they were just playing along with the threat or genuinely believed the man.
“Like I said, I get to decide how this class runs. Understand? If that's a problem, you can head home right now.” Akari’s hands clenched into fists at the challenge, excitement swallowing her completely at the opportunity to prove her worth. Though it quickly became obvious not everyone felt that way as the brown-haired girl from before once again spoke up.
“You can't send one of us home! I mean, we just got here! Even if it wasn't the first day, that isn't fair!”
“Oh, and you think natural disasters are?” Aizawa shot back immediately, driving home the point of his first lesson and earning another round of surprised gasps from the kids, “Or power‐hungry villains? Hmm? Or catastrophic accidents that wipe out whole cities? No, the world is full of unfairness. It’s a hero's job to try to combat that unfairness. If you wanna be a pro, you're gonna have to push yourself to the brink. For the next three years, UA will throw one terrible hardship after another at you. So, go beyond. Plus ultra‐style. Show me it's no mistake that you're here.”
A huff escaped Akari’s lips at the call to arms, a burning desire filling her, just wanting to show just how good she could be. She shook out her fists, before crossing her arms and smirking, it morphing more into a smile at the look of excitement from Momo. It was their time, and she couldn’t wait to finally be herself.
“Now then.” Aizawa called, happy at the looks of determination he was now seeing across his classes face, “We’re just wasting time by talking. Let the games begin.”
Akari glanced over at her black-haired friend, a cheeky smile on her face.
“May the best woman win.” Momo just smiled back, happy her usually more disheartened friend was back up to her cheery self before she excused herself to begin preparing her items to help with the assessment.
Akari hummed, turning her own attention to preparation, moving her eyes to cast a glance over the courses. The 50m Dash would be a breeze as would the softball throw, long distance run and the long jump. She knew she would likely struggle more with the side steps, toe touch, hand grip strength and sit ups but that was just due to her quirk not being able to help her, she’d still have a decent attempt due to her basic fitness. Deciding she’d want to get her best results in early, she moved to Aizawa, politely requesting the softball which was tossed to her as it had been Bakugo.
The blonde tossed the ball back and fore in her hand, getting a feel for the weight before moving the the throwing area. She could feel a few stares burning into her back, likely out of curiosity, but refrained from turning around for fear she’d chicken out under the pressure. She stretched out her arm as Bakugo had, throwing the ball once more in the air before getting into her throwing stance.
Just need to hit more than 600m
Taking a breath, she concentrated on the air around her feeling it flowing before pulling it to her fist. She let out the breath as she moved forward, throwing her arm while also sending a surge of air at the ball the effect lacking the same explosive visual as Bakugo but nevertheless going just as far. She placed a hand to her head, blocking out the sun so she could see as it sailed through the sky. She could hear muttering around her, a few questioning her quirk and what exactly she had done to get it in the air, no one but her having felt the huge blast of air she’d used to send it flying. Trying not to listen in, she turned her gaze to her teacher, a questioning eyebrow raising as she read the display.
I didn’t think I’d get it that far…
Akari stared at the 701.8m in shock for a moment before a grin broke out over her face. She took a step back from the throwing area, eyeing the next few courses with anticipation before making her way over to the 50m dash, a bit more confidence flooding her system as she lined herself up behind a shorter boy with what appeared to be purple balls that made up his hair. She frowned heavily as he turned and gawked at her, unsure what the stare meant but not feeling comfortable either especially as he continued staring when the course cleared.
“It’s… uh… your turn?” Akari tried to prompt, glancing behind her nervously as the boys seemed to drool more, only to see a curious looking girl with what looked like headphone jacks coming out of her ears.
“Alas who is this goddess that speak to me?” The boy cried, drawing Akari’s attention back around, the girls face quickly morphing into a glare as her fists clenched. The blonde did her best to refrain her gut reaction and instead sidestepped the creep, lining herself up on the course next to Todoroki.
Akari shook her head, urging herself to focus as she got herself into a better position, shooting her arms back behind her as she stared dead ahead, gathering some energy as she waited for the whistle to blow. As soon as the shrill sound filled the air, the blonde activated her quick, throwing herself forward so fast she nearly fell, not having expected her own power. She landed in a roll, smiling with light embarrassment as she pushed herself to her feet, pride radiating through her at the sight of the timer displaying 4 seconds exactly.
Not wanting to lose momentum, she was quick to move on to the next base, smiling in greeting when she came up behind Mina who was quick to turn around and face the girl, a clear look of curiosity over her face. Akari hummed, reaching a hand up to tussle her fringe as she turned away.
“So, what exactly is your quirk?” Mina questioned, tilting her head at Akari who returned her focus to the pink girl, “I thought it was telekinesis or something…” Mina seemed to suddenly realise how abrupt she sounded and decided to throw out her own quick, “I can generate acid!”
“Huh. That’s pretty cool.” Akari let out, appraising the girl slightly before shaking her head and holding up her hand, “I can manipulate the air around and create blasts of air.” She winced as Mina’s eyes seemed to widen and began back peddling, “Not very well though, I still need a lot more practice.”
“That’s for sure loser.” A voice huffed behind her, causing the blonde to stiffen and turn with a stern glare, huffing at the look from Bakugo, “You’ve been copying my moves.” Akari rolled her eyes as she moved to a spot that was free for the long jump.
“More like improving them, dumbass.” She bit back, smirking as the boy seemed to scoff and clench his fists, her eyes narrowing as his fists sparked slightly, his face looking like he was going to say more, “Try it!”
“Akari.” The stern voice from Momo, who’d been just within earshot, brought the girl swiftly back down to earth, snapping her out of her anger that the blonde knew fine well wasn’t all due to the words Bakugo had said. The blonde debated apologising but settled on offering a huff and walking off, Momo was quick to follow her over, disapproving look over her face, “You can’t get in a fight on the first day.”
“I know Momo.” Akari sighed, shaking off any annoyance as she focused on setting herself up for the next challenge.
“You can’t get in trouble, what would your moth,”
“I know.” Akari cut in, straightening, and turning to look at her best friend, a hint of worry in her gaze as her eyes flickered across to Bakugo who seemed to have forgotten the spat already, moving onto another test, “I’m sorry. I’ll keep a lid on it.”
“I know.” Momo sighed, casting her friend a look of worry as she came over and talked quietly, “Just don’t want you getting removed on your first day.” Akari offered a cheeky smile.
“I’d have a couple weeks, she’s away to see my brother.”
“Akari.” Momo huffed with a hint of amusement, content her friend was pushing back any anger and annoyance as promised and would refocus on the task at hand. Akari smiled, happy her friend was happy before she glanced at the long distance jump she’d lined up for and resumed her focus.
The rest of the tests for Akari went without incident, her figures for the long-distance jump and run being up in the higher end of the spectrum while her toe touch and sit ups trailed towards the rear of the pack. It hadn’t shocked her to see her getting such low scores, she’d been so focused on quirk control and her arm strength that she’d allowed her core strength to dwindle during all her training, it just gave her something to work towards and something to keep her distracted.
Humming the blonde finished her grip strength test, blinking in surprise at the number being nearly double her score in junior high, a light smile passing her face. Some results had certainly been a nice surprise and had given her a lick of confidence that she was indeed in the right place. She gently placed the tester back, tilting her head lightly before moving over to the growing group beside the throwing area, wondering who was taking up so much of the classes focus. Her eyes widened at the sight of the green haired boy.
“If Midoriya doesn't shape up soon, he's the one going home.” Iida commented as they watched on, Akari pursed her lips and lifted her arms, holding them on the back of her head as she stepped up beside Bakugo to watch. The ash blonde didn’t react to the girl, continuing to watch Midoriya with a scowl.
“Huh? of course he is. He's a quirkless loser.” Bakugo bit back, pointing over at the green haired boy. Akari frowned glancing between the ash blonde and the green haired Midoriya.
“He’s made it very far for a “quirkless loser.”” She offered, not reacting as Bakugo twisted around and huffed with agitation in her direction, opening his mouth to make a response when Iida stuttered in surprise.
“He has a quirk…” He glanced at the two blondes who quickly diverted their attention to him, “Did you not hear about what he did in the entrance exam?”
“Huh?” Bakugo frowned, earning another frown from Akari, sensing there was more to the confusion from Bakugo. She was debating questioning it, just about to open her mouth when a yell from Midoriya caught her attention, her eyes quickly scanning across, her watching her classmate intensely with anticipation as he threw his arm forward, the ball sailing through the air. Her eyes widening as it landed.
46m
There was a bated breath, confusion radiating from the green haired boy who stood frozen, clearly somewhat in disbelief. The group that had gathered were also confused, Iida and Ochaco not understanding where his amazing power had gone, while Akari tilted her head in wonder at how a ‘quirkless loser’ as Bakugo had put it had really managed to get through the reputationally hard UA entrance exam.
“Uh... what gives? I was trying to use it just now.” They heard Midoriya mutter quietly, only able to hear him with how quiet the group had gotten.
“I erased your quirk.” Aizawa explained, everyone looking over at their teacher, eyes widening in surprise at the power that was being displayed from the man who had been fairly sedated until now, his hair standing up and his scarf seeming to come alive, “The judges for this exam were not rational enough. Someone like you should never be allowed to enrol at this school.” Akari glanced away, her arms falling from the back of her head to tightly cross across her chest.
“Wait, you did what to my… ah! those goggles. I know you!” Midoriya realised, staring at their teacher wide eyed, “You can look at someone and cancel out their powers. The erasure hero. Eraser Head!” Akari’s eyes widened at the information, glancing over the hero turned teacher that was in front of her with a hint of awe, never having seen the hero herself but having heard his name mentioned as part of a few big villain captures over the years. His name had never made it into the news, but her mother was always in the know, Eraser Head’s name had been thrown around during a few family dinners in the past.
“Eraser? Who's that?” One of her dark-haired classmates who she’d seen ejecting tape from his elbows questioned.
“Oh, I've heard of him. I think he works on the downlow.” The girl who had a frog-based quirk added in, Akari found herself nodding along.
“You're not ready. You don't have control over your power.” Aizawa reminded the boy, glaring down at him slightly as his eyes slowly began to strain from use of his power, “Were you planning to break your bones again? Counting on someone else to save your useless body?”
“No! That's not what I was trying to do!” Midoriya argued back quickly only to gasp as he was captured by the capture tape, Akari and the rest of the class watching on, the three who’d been recommended having their interest peaked at the mention of the broken bones.
There was a quiet rumbling over the class as Midoriya was pulled in by the tape, Aizawa talking quietly to the boy but the intense gaze from their teacher told them all it was a serious conversation. Akari tightened her arms, shuffling slightly, feeling uncomfortable with the capture and intense looks she was watching, feeling a sense of déjà vu. She pursed her lips and looked away as Midoriya seemed to look down, her classmate clearly disheartened by the lecture.
“I've returned your impractical quirk.” Aizawa announced, releasing the boy, and moving back to the rest of the class, “Take your final throw. Hurry and get it over with.”
“I wonder if our teacher gave him some advice.” Iida questioned aloud, making the ash blonde beside him scoff.
“Probably told him to start packing.” Bakugo countered, placing his hands on his hips. Akari sighed.
“I think Bakugo’s right.” She agreed, still refusing to look over at Midoriya, not wanting to get attached now she felt he was on the chopping block, ignoring the scoff from Bakugo who seemed annoyed with her once again chiming in, “That wasn’t exactly a friendly chat.” She hummed in thought, “Though, I am curious about him somehow managing to break bones?”
“Oh, you were a recommended student right?” Uraraka called, gaining the blondes attention, she nodded to the brunette, “You didn’t see him at the entrance exam.”
“I feel like I missed out.” Akari admitted, glancing around Iida and Bakugo to the girl, “I’m Akari by the way.” The blonde added, smiling in greeting as she nodded her head.
“I’m Ochako Uraraka.” The brunette returned with a warm smile before both girls frowned, their attention moving back to the throwing area as their green haired classmate let out a yell, them just turning back to see the boy throwing his fist forward.
Akari quickly lifted a hand and waved it to the side, generating her own air blast to counter the oncoming blast of air that had been about to hit her classmates, the huge gust hitting the side of a nearby building instead. No one paid attention though as all eyes were on the ball which was now sailing through the air, a lot higher and faster than it had been when their teacher had removed the boys quirk. Akari huffed out an impressed breath, giving Bakugo a side eye of confusion in how he could have thought this classmate was quirkless.
“Mr. Aizawa.” Midoriya called out, pulling the teachers and classes attention to him as he turned around, pain clearly over his face, “You see? I'm still standing.” Akari felt a smile grace her face, at the 705.3m that read on the display, happy for Midoriya, though couldn’t help but wince at the sight of the broken finger her classmate was now sporting. She cast a look over her shoulder at Momo.
“This place is intense.”
