Work Text:

She was moving in. Tim had asked her to move in.

I don't pack light, I travel for a living

Mm

And I don't abide by that 50-pound limit

On that Delta flight out West, I'm there every other Wednesday

But my heart ain't up in the air, so if you want me

Boy, was she right about him needing more boxes. Lucy was happy. She felt like she was radiating joy, even as they were packing, and Tim made several comments about how there could not possibly be any more stuff to pack and bring over to his place. Their place. She just reminded him that he is a 45-year-old man who, until very recently, lived alone, so the salad forks were making the move.

As she taped the box of stuff from the desk drawers, she looked around the bedroom. It was starting to look pretty bare.

It was starting to sink in; she was leaving the apartment. And even though, at times, with their job, it felt like she was almost only in her bed once a week, this apartment was good to her. It held a lot of memories, Jackson, Tamara, Tim.

They were ready, though; he wanted her, and she wanted him.

Clear out a drawer, clear out a shelf

I wouldn't wanna do it with anybody else

Everything that's heavy, I check it at the door

Kind of feel like I don't need it anymore

I got some bones of old skeletons

From the old house at the dead end

I got baggage, but I'm moving in

Tim had cleaned out some drawers and a whole side of the closet. But moving was stressful, and they both had their fears. Fears that the world would find a way to ruin the foundation that they had built, both the old one and the new one.

They had been at it for hours, unpacking. Lucy was sitting on the floor in the bedroom, organizing her jewelry and perfumes. She knew Tim didn’t like much clutter, and if she's honest, neither did she, but she was a girl to some extent; clutter comes with the territory. And did it count if she used it? From her jewelry box, she pulled out her Valentine's Day necklace and put it on. Before she became lost in her own world, continuing to organize with a cheesy smile on her face because she was so happy, despite her lower back starting to hurt, a light knock on the door brought her out of her thoughts. She looked up to see Tim in the doorway of their bedroom. He nodded toward the kitchen. “Sushi is here.”

Her smile grew because she didn’t know he had ordered food, let alone her favorite. He came over, holding out a hand to help her up, and they made their way to the sushi after sharing a kiss.

We both slept on a mattress with "I love you" people

Mm

Shit, I even took it all the way to the steeple

So, boy, I know the weight and gravity of key chains with same keys

But if you want that "Welcome" mat, then roll it out with me and

They both had their pasts; for her, it was Emmett, Chris, and Tim. For him, it was Issabell, Rachel, and Lucy. Today was one of those long, tiresome days on the job. No one ended up in the hospital, luckily, but everyone had been put through the wringer.   A husband and wife killer couple that had been killing for years. Caught but having no remorse.

Lucy went to Tim’s office after she was changed out. He was finishing the day's paperwork. Seeing her, he pushed back from the desk, and she came and sat in his lap. He placed a kiss on the crown of her head.  After a few minutes of being in their own thoughts and enjoying the silence of being together, Tim said, “I have something for you.”

“For me?”

From the side drawer of his desk, he takes out a gold keychain, holding it by the loop. Lucy smiles, seeing her house key and the personalized gold circle pendant stamped with a house, and under the house, a T & L. She takes the keychain from his finger. Tim says cockly,  “It's official, official now.”

When they got home, Tim was about to open the front door. “No, no, no, wait, I want to use my key.”

Lucy stops him excitedly, Tim chuckles and playfully rolls his eyes, but takes a step back. When he does, he notices a package next to the front door.

They walk into the house as he reads, “Lucy Chen 9546 Riverrock Ave”

“Has a nice ring to it, huh?”

Tim can't help but agree. He hands the box to Lucy and watches as she opens it, then holds its contents up proudly. It's an outdoor welcome mat that says ‘Welcome! Beware of Kojo King of canines.’

Tim’s house had become their house, and he could not be happier about it. There were touches of her throughout the house. Like in the bathroom, she had a whole shelf of hair products, and her toothbrush stood proud in the holder next to his. There are two bedside tables next to the bed. And on the coffee table, Tim can normally find an extra hair tie that gets left behind when Lucy has him take her hair out when they are watching Top Chef.

He had punished himself when he broke up with Lucy; he knew that by punishing himself, he also punished her. While he is not perfect, and there are days when they are both scared, they are stronger now more than ever.

To those thoughts in your head

My hand, back pocket of your jeans

Linen sheets in our bed

'Cause home is when you're with me

So

One of the best things about being back together comes at end of shIft when they walk to the car. Especially on the hard days when it feels like the ghosts of the day will never leave their brains, and then, as they walk out the hallway, she slips her hand into the back pocket of his jeans, and he wraps his arm around her shoulders and pulls her into his side.

When they get home, they get to go and sleep off the day in the most comfortable bed and each other's arms where they both find peace.

The last and final step of moving in was updating the photos in the house. Lucy put up some of them, one of Jack and his godfather Tim from Jack's birthday, them and Tamara, the whole Midwills crew, Genny and the boys, Lucy and Jackson, and more, so they are surrounded by those they love.

They knew that relationships took work and living together brought new challenges that may arise, but when they look at all they have survived together, bullet wounds, car crashes, psychos. They knew they didn’t want to be with anyone. They also knew that they could leave the baggage or anything heavy at the door because they had eachother.

After the photos were in place, they had another dinner party; this time, Tim had salad forks.
