It was the "morning" for the planets in the solar system(which is actually the beginning stage of awakening in their orbit cycle), and one by one, each celestial body started to awake from their slumber.
"Morning beautiful.."
a sudden voice rang out, earth groaned as the Sun's light seemed to get harsher, but turning his head towards the voice and realising it was Mars, his expression immediately softened.
"morning..." earth groaned quietly as he shifted himself to lay on his side, wrapping his arms around mars, pulling him closer -with mars doing the same - til he could rest his face into his shoulder. He remembered faintly that Mars wanted to come around this time during their little sleep cycle, sort of like a little sleepover!
After a few moments, Mars spoke up again "are you feeling alright?.." having the slightest tint of worry in his voice since earth wasn't responding. Earth nodded lazily-
"Mm..,yeah..just-" gets interrupted by his own yawn "-tired..." he mumbles against his shoulder, the sleepiness evident in the last sentence. Mars chuckles softly, gently circling his thumb against his back in a comforting gesture.
Earth just relaxed even more into the touch, making him, furthermore- not want to wake up. And despite Mars wanting the same thing -to or not to look at his boyfriends beautiful surface - he didn't want them to get in trouble by the sun. So he immediately stopped what he was doing after a few moments, and of course, earth didn't really appreciate that.
"Nooo...keep doing that.." he mumbles against his shoulder again, a hint of annoyancein his voice. Mars lightly chuckled despite his own tiredness "sorry...but we can't have you falling sleeping again, you know how the sun gets..". Earth responded with a groan -why did the sun have to ruin things like this?! - he thought.
They started to talk more as the tiredness rubbed off, keeping each other wake as they went off about the most random of stuff. Earth noticed that Mars kept deep eye contact with him and looking him up and down, it honestly made him weirdly nervous for some reason, "dude.. what are you doing?" He questioned. To which mars simply said "what? Admiring you." He said it so.. confidently, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
He should've figured, considering he was his boyfriend and all, but he was gazing so intensely that it made him think that there was something on his face or..something. but he felt flattered nonetheless, just like how Mars always managed to make him feel that way. "Oh!..Well.. thank you, i know you can't get enough of this" He teased, gesturing his hands to himself, hearing mars let out a huff that sounded more like a laugh he tried to cover "you're welcome, beautiful." He knew he wouldn't be earth without the teasing.
As they kept talking, earth had one thing on his mind, keeping count of all the compliments Mars said in the conversation in mind. "Would you love me if i was an astriod?" That question came out of nowhere, catching mars off guard, but quickly recovering. "Yes I would, why?" He tilted his head in slight confusion and curiosity.
"Nothing. It's just- .." earth struggled to put his thoughts into words. Mars stared at him like trying to figure out a puzzle before getting an idea of what earth was thinking about. "Are you-" "i promise I'm not trying to say your not loyal or anything!!-" earth interrupted mars, afraid that mars could possibly have the wrong idea of what earth thought of him, before mars shushed him by placing his finger onto his lips.
"No No No- i know what you mean! are you just worried that I'm with you because of your looks? To put it simply?" He reassured him, asking the question for him as earth averted his gaze - ashamed knowing that mars wouldn't be that type of planet to do that, yet still having those thoughts - nodding. Mars put his finger down as he patiently waited for him to start talking.
"I..(sigh) being considered pretty definitely has it's perks, a lot of them, I'm not denying that. But I guess everything has it's downside, which for me includes who actually wants to hang out with me because of me, and not because they can get something out of me.." Earth looked back at mars to see if he was uncomfortable, hurt or any of the sort, and all he saw was mars still listening to him with a patient expression, so he kept going.
"And I know you're not the type of planet to do that sort of thing, I'm not trying to call you a bad partner and you're not! It's just i can't really get rid of these thoughts." He reiterated again that Mars was not at all a bad partner, he loved him, he just wanted to get this out of his chest, but trying so without hurting mars. Stars, hurting Mars was the last thing he wanted to do.
But mars? He honestly understood him to some extent, he was never considered particularly beautiful for a planet, but he knew what it was like for someone to have come to him just because of what benefits he could've brought - like when the moons tried to get venus and mars to join their side to attack earth so they'd have more power, thank the stars they never managed to do that.
So considering that he's arguably the most popular and having the most resources(rich by celestial standards), he wouldn't be surprised if someone became friends with him for popularity, for his assets, to flex, or void knows what else. He sat up onto his elbows as he stroked his shoulder with his thumb. "Earth, remember when we first met?"
Earth was a bit confused by that question but nodded anyway, "yeah..what about that?" He remembered billions of years ago, when they were practically infant planets, he was probably around 4 in human years? And mars...maybe around 6..7 -ish? (I'm so sorry, I only realised that now) when they first met.
Mars continued, seemingly reminiscing about the past too, "back then, you didn't have anything you have now. Not your water, not your life, not your assets, not even your moon, luna!" He pressed his finger against his chest "but I still wanted to be friends with you, you know why?" "Why?" He asked, he had an idea, but he wanted to hear Mars's real answer.
"Because I thought you were a awesome dude." He shrugged his shoulders, a fond expression on his face, and honestly, earth did too, a small smile tugging at his lips that mars was happy to see. "Even when I made fun of you for being shorter despite me being younger than you?" Earth remarked with a smug, teasing grin, holding back a laugh.
Mars let out a exasperated sigh as he shook his head "yes, even that" they chuckled for a bit before their laughter quieted down as mars continued talking. "So why would I not be honest about being your partner, much less a friend now? When I've seen you at your worst, and u probably seen mine." Mars cradled earth's cheek with his hand, which earth leaned into "i see your point..." he admitted, more quietly this time as his earlier thought seemed to get dumber and dumber with insight now.
"I understand where you're coming from earth, everything you have brings attention to you and knowing how fragile your life is too- I understand that you have to be more careful now, but you'll never need to be careful around me, earth, i promise you that." Earth was a bit taken it back by that, it was very..reassuring, genuine.
"That was...weirdly poetic..-like in a complimentary way" he added, as mars chuckled. "Do you wanna know what else I like about you?" Mars asked as he proceeded to get closer to earth, leaning over him. Earth swore he felt his core stop when he made eye contact with him at the angle, but he tried to keep cool. "Nooo...what else?" Sounding a bit eager, that smug, cheeky grin of his peaking that mars just loved to see.
"I like how you grin like that, it's quite unique to you, and flashy like the rest of you." He purred as he reached his hand up to comb his fingers through his hair(more like water, but still) out of the way of his face. Earth bit the inside of his cheek in a attempt to muffle his chuckles as he turned his head away, his eyes still following him.
"Mhmhm..tell me more.." mars narrowed his eyes on him, thinking about something before he thought about- "i like how you stick your tongue out without noticing when you're focused, it looks funny to me." He joked as earth narrowed his eyes at him, offended(not really), "hey! Teasing is my thing, that's my job!" He retorted back, a sense of playful humour in it.
Mars chuckled as he leaned in closer to his ear, his hand reaching one of his slowly til they interwined their fingers together. "I love how resilient you are...everything you've gone through, it shows just how brave and tough you actually are, and I admire that about you.♡" he whispered into his ear, brushing his head against his as earth tried to compose himself, stars that was hot.
"So, now your turn, what do you like about me?" Mars's voice snapped earth out of his mental rant, a grin tugging at his lips as he realised the question. "Hmm, I guess it's only fair-" he said, shrugging lightly, Mars raising an eyebrow in amusement.
Earth stared Mars up and down as he placed one of his hands on top of his chest "i love how loyal you are, not just to me, but to anything and anyone. I'd argue it's one of your biggest green flags." He said as he heard mars acknowledge it with a low hum, relaxing more on top of him.
"I love that you and luna get along well, you know how much luna means to me so it just warms my core to see you two get along. Not like I expected anything else, luna always had a positive opinion about you." Earth huffed a chuckle as his fingers played around on his chest before reaching up to twirl one of his locks around his finger.
Mars's head leaned more towards where earth was playing with his lock, keeping the warm yet deep gaze towards him. Stars, mars loved when they had moments like these, it showed him how much earth really cared about him just like he did(and thankfully luna likes him too), and he could gaze at him all he wanted. A comfortable silence fell over them for a moment.
"You're-..You're genuine..really. I know you're not using me for my looks or my assets or anything else!.. I can trust you.." earth suddenly added. He spoke genuinely, his voice becoming soft at the end as he and Mars brush and nuzzle their heads against each other again. "I'm sorry for implying that you would earlier-"
Mars shushed him by putting his finger up to his mouth again - 'you should really stop shush-ing me' earth thought - as he pulled back to say, "Earth, there's nothing for you to apologise for" slowly lowering his finger back down.
"and, well- of course not, I was your friend way before you got any of that.. I'm only saying your beautiful now is because...well- how could i deny it?.."
he said it so sweetly, so reassuringly, as he stroked earth's cheek at the same time, that made earth want to melt away til he was just a blue and green blob. Mars leaned in again to give him a kiss on the cheek as earth playfully giggled and turned his head away.
"And I'm your boyfriend now too, so it adds" mars added in matter of fact, shrugging, couldn't help but squirm inside at the sheer mention of it, he was so lucky..-he thought.
Earth at this point had his teasing grin, giddy "Aaannd you're charming may i add" Earth added to the compliments - he had to after hearing that! - letting Mars kiss his cheek again, starting to play fight on the bed with each other "You really know how to make a planet swoon!~" Earth said playfully, stars he loved compliments with flirts in them, mars knew that made him weak. "Glad to know!" Mars responded back just as playfully.
They continued to play fight - meaning attacking each other with kisses, hugs, teases(with a little bit of playful insults in there..) and tossing each other around - completely forgetting all about time and space before the notorious..
"GO BACK TO YOUR ORBIT!?!!"
