Work Text:
Morrigan wasn’t feeling comfortable in her body. It felt wrong. Like she was supposed to be someone else. But that was obviously not possible. Everyone is happy with their body, right? But she wasn’t.
She has worn dresses her entire life, and she never hated them. Except the ones Ivy gave her, those awful pink dresses with ruffles. She liked her Wunsoc uniform better, it didn’t have a skirt.
Everyone called her a girl, and used she/her pronouns. She never minded it, because he/him was even worse. There wasn’t an other option.
Until there was.
Someone at Wunsoc used they/them pronouns. Morrigan didn’t know. She always thought they were a boy. Their name was Charlie.
Charlie became friends with Mahir, because they both loved learning languages. Charlie’s knack wasn’t being fluent at a lot of languages, like Mahir’s. Morrigan didn’t even know what it actually was.
She started feeling more uncomfortable as a girl. She wished she wasn’t, but being a boy was even worse. One day, Morrigan realized Charlie was neither. That was also a possibility! She realized that she wanted to use they/them pronouns. That would make them feel more comfortable. But how were they going to tell people?
Morrigan was scared of Jupiter’s reaction. They hoped he couldn’t see it. He probably could. Morrigan kept it secret for weeks, starting to get annoyed at everyone calling them a girl. They stopped wearing dresses, although Dame Chanda gave them some. Morrigan felt terrible in their own body. They knew something had to change.
A few days later, Jupiter asked them to come to his study. They were worried, knowing he probably knew something.
Morrigan walked to his study and knocked on the large brown door. ‘Come in!’ he shouted. They opened the door and they sat down on Jupiter’s couch. He looked a bit worried. ‘Morrigan, is everything okay?’ he asked. They didn’t know what to answer. They didn’t want to lie to him.
Jupiter gave them a hug. ‘You can always tell me, okay?’ he said. They nodded. Morrigan decided to tell him. That was the best decision.
‘You know Charlie?’ they asked him. Jupiter nodded. ‘Mahir told me that he… they aren’t a boy or girl. And I was just feeling like… maybe that’s me too. Maybe I’m not a girl. I just… started feeling like I wasn’t and I didn’t know that was possible, but because of Charlie know I do, so maybe… I want to be like Charlie. A third option. Does that sound weird?’
Jupiter laughed. ‘No, it doesn’t. Not at all. It’s okay. You are not the only one. Morrigan sighed, relieved. This went better than they expected. He hugged them and asked if they wanted to use they/them pronouns. Morrigan nodded. ‘Is that okay?’ they asked.
‘Obviously it’s okay,’ he said.
