We Keep This Love In A Photograph

Summary:

Work Text:

Things have been hectic, after … not quite defusing the bomb, but defusing the situation that came with it, literally stopping Lancer in his tire tracks. Hours later, they finally have a moment to breathe. Mac still doesn’t remember everything, nor apparently does he have control over what comes out of his mouth.

“Pete, did you say you have a picture of the two of us together in your wallet?”

It’s a hell of a conversation opener with a guy he only partially remembers.

“Always,” Pete smiles, scratching his ear a little. “Right next to the picture of Michael.”

“Oh,” Mac grins.

“Just in case of temporary amnesia.”

“Sure.” Mac’s voice is easy, but he can’t help shaking his head a little. From the memory he’s managed to regain, he can see that he and Pete must mean a lot to each other, but he’s pretty confident he never knew he was in the guy’s wallet. It’s nice. “Wonder how long they’ll keep us.”

Pete seems surprised at the question, and Mac thinks maybe this is the sort of thing he would usually know. “Probably another hour at most. Why, hungry?”

“No,” Mac grins. “Are you?”

“You know it,” Pete says. “Think I ate… lunch yesterday.”

Mac raises an eyebrow. Wow, Pete must have really worried. Then, he sneaks a glance around. Nobody is going to notice if they leave. “Come on,” he says, dragging Pete out. “We’re getting Chinese food.”

He doesn’t know why or how he knows that Pete loves Chinese food, but he does, just as he understands without remembering that Pete will accept Mac sneaking them out.

This, he thinks, is good trouble, and he finds himself utterly relieved to be alive to make it with the guy who has a picture of them in his wallet.
