Work Text:

To anyone reading this, I am Ira Ashraf, and I would like to share the story of my life, as I am unsure if I will live long enough to pass it on myself because of the dangers of this godly world we live in.

First was my birth; I was born in Farafra, Egypt, to my polite and Arabic speaking family. As a child I was taught of my Ancient Pharaoh heritage, and trained most days from dawn to sunset, from the ages of ten to seventeen.

Looking back I wish I hadn't pushed myself so hard, but it shaped myself for my life, thought whether for better or worse I cannot quite tell.

At seventeen I got a letter from who are now my dear mentors, Carter and Sadie Kane, the two having sent the letters to teenagers who might have potential to be powerful magicians. At that point in my life I had begun learning English, and I'm now glad I did, as it meant my parents allowed me to go to The Brooklyn House and get trained by the Kane siblings.

I became a devoted trainee, training through weather, and overtime as I trained I began to call Carter "Sir", and Sadie "Madame Kane", though quite to Carter's displeasure, I continued to do so to this day because I refuse to break formality.

During my time at The Brooklyn House I met this beautiful girl my age, Sandra Jenkins. She was an amazing and energetic asset to the group, and she was my age, a day older than me, and she was like the sunshine to my darkness, and she slowly opened me up, and we began dating, facing all the hardships of the world with the other trainees, and though it was so stress filled, I can't help but say that it was the best two years of my life.

Then, the fight with Apophis came, and nearly everyone survived, with Sandra as our only casualty. I still get plagued by the memories of watching her almost make it out before getting impaled by Apophis' tail tip, coughing up a bit of blood before smiling softly and dying. I still miss her greatly.

After Sandra's death I began to close off, and then, I discovered cutting, and started doing so to cope with her death. The world was chaos free, but at the cost of one of the lives that meant most to me, and it darkened my world as if Apophis had swallowed the sun again.

Only my dear friend Walt knew of my cuts. I never had the nerve to tell Sadie and Carter, and I didn't want to worry poor young Felix. The only times I even alluded to my suicidal mental state was the time I told Carter I would only call him his first name when I was on the brink of death or about to die.

Although my life has been nothing special, I still don't want it forgotten, and hopefully this might help as to allowing my fellow trainees and mentors to have something to remember me by.

I don't know what awaits, but I have this as a precaution for the dangers ahead.

Ira Ashraf.
