Infected Heart

Summary:

DND characters enter a land they have never thought of, many of them there for specific reasons, but some stumble upon the story of Veyrun accidentally.

Notes:

Prior information: This is a DND campaign that was never explored. I thought I wanted to play DND spent a few days doing this, and found out that all my friends have lives and we can’t spend every Saturday like we used to playing DND so I decided I would write this to work up some courage to find new friends to play DND with. Anyways: If you find any problems, please write it this is currently the rough draft.

Chapter 1: Cold

Chapter Text

This cold, this forest. It was chipping away at her. Numbing her feet, causing her fingers to stiffen and the shivering.. gods. But this damned fog was suffocating, eating away at her psyche. She navigated through leafage and vines, Her eyes spinning around frantically for any hint of a trail just anything - then finally a small pit with ashes. She finally recovered the track. The group she had been watching hadn’t talked to each other since she started tailing them. She had been following this party for a few days, her own party died pretty early on while on the voyage to this land Their lord expended his wealth spending enough money to send a small army here stuffed with as many suckers as he could. However after the long journey that took them here they had all scattered leaving her alone to fend for herself. She was elated to finally have a remnant of people. Focusing she knew her top priority was finding this group she couldn’t lose them again. The blonde hair with those ears, red scales, rat hair, and feathers she remembers vividly. The members couldn’t be far behind. She finally-.

*SNAP*

The half-elf in armor stopped swiftly turning around and looked straight at where she was a second ago, now she was behind a tree holding her breath hand clasped over her mouth to stifle any possible sound. The half-elf slowly started walking towards the tree. The dragonborn sighed and fell flat on her butt taking off her pack,

“Did you find our ghost now?” the red dragonborn spoke

The Half-elf sighed, turning back and towards the party as they set up camp.

—---------------------------------

“So why are you all here?” The Kenku asked

The crow tapped against his staff the many trinket dangled from the loop of the staff. The crow continued to fidget until another person spoke.

“I am here on the duty of my Oath” their voice spoke out loud. They had leather armor, an insignia of a sword going through the sun. They put their sword on the ground as they sat.

“T -That’s nice, I’m here to find some relics I’ve heard a lot about, my professor told me about the spirit there that haunts the area”.

“I hate to break it to you kid,” The small ratfolk returned to the party with a hand full of sticks in his hands “ But those have been emptied for a long time, the people here have run this place dry”

“What about you?” The crow looked over to the red dragonborn trying to sleep.

“My lord asked me here to extract any relics and weapons I can find and to leave that is all” She looked over at the sticks the ratfolk laid down and blew towards them a column of fire litting the sticks.

“And what about you xir?” The crow said.

“My name is Sage of Veyrun, I recently finished my initiation mission and I am now of age and maturity to be a paladin of the Dawnmarked”

“Ooh fancy” the Ratfolk murmured.

“What of it rat” the pale blue eyes of Sage burned into the Ratfolk’s side.

“Just so you know it's been ages since we’ve ever needed a Dawnmarked here, why not join a different Oath and go on a mission in a beautiful land. Y’know slay dragons and demons save the princess, not just roam this musty old place”. The rat looked over to Sage

“This is my home and as it has served me I will serve it dutifully, so speak no more…”

“Gert”

“Gert, speak no ill of my home”

“Liaceal Xisthyra” The dragonborn spoke, her forked tongue spitting it out of courtesy.

“My names Kaa, nice to meet you”

They then all silently and awkwardly found a way to sleep, Kaa slept sitting up using his massive backpack leaning on it. Sage slept with their sword in their hands with their back to the ground. Both Gert and Liaceal slept outstretched.

Now was her time to strike. She slowly crept forward, she wasn't gonna kill them but if she could take food from them just so she could live a bit longer and get to this godforsaken city she would make it through this.

The slight noise of leather touching leather sounded like a bomb going off in these woods. The pale blue eyes in front of alerted her first. The sound of a sword slicing through the air was her second. Tumbling back she barely escaped death. However her hair and her horn was damaged. She responded by collecting herself and drawing her dagger.

They whistled, the dragonborn and rats eyes snapping open and the sound of a quiet kaw The axe next to the dragon born was drawn and the small harp of the rat attacked her ears with the jingling of a staff pointed towards her.
