Take Me Back

Summary:

Tarquin saw Gladius after a year away. But the pain is still fresh for Riley

Notes:

Work Text:

I had all and then most of you

Some and now none of you

“Saw Gladius today.”

How could Tarquin say those words so casually to Riley? After all that had happened, after a year and no word?

Take me back to the night we met

“How was he?” Fuck he hated sounding so desperate as he asked. But the memory of their parting still hung heavy in his mind. An ache in his chest that not even the deepest bottle of whiskey could drown.

I don't know what I'm supposed to do

Haunted by the ghost of you

“He looked good.” Riley saw the way Tarquin's eyes shifted, as if he was avoiding saying more out of some misplaced respect. But the Qunari had lost all dignity the moment Gladius stepped out of his room that night so long ago. “He was with Gallus and a few others. Off saving the world or some such. See that his ability to find trouble hasn't changed much.”

Oh, take me back to the night we met

Riley's fingers thrummed against the desk in front of him as he hummed to himself. There was a question burning in the space between his ribs, finally sighing as he already knew the answer before he asked. “He didn't ask about me, did he?”
