Work Text:

Fireworks sparkled and boomed in the distance, lighting up the night with colour and joy. Yet, even with the celebratory spirit, the moment was oddly calm and melancholic.

The beach was relatively empty, save for Kaelix and Zeal, lying soundlessly side by side on a beach towel. The fireworks fizzled and popped while the two admired them from afar, silently appreciating both the fireworks and each other.

The sea breeze was salty and cool. The sand was soft under their feet. There was nothing better than lying next to the one you love the most while enjoying the festivities in your own special way. It was perfect.

“Say, Kaelix.”

Kaelix hummed in response, eyes still trained on the bright colour exploding in the sky. He looked at peace, eyes sparkling with happiness and something so bright, Zeal could only stare.

The bartender opened and closed his mouth like a goldfish, words unable to form. He took a deep breath, taking in the atmosphere before continuing.

“I really wanna kiss you right now, y’know?”

Kaelix blinked impishly a few times before the words finally got through.

“E-EH???” The bouncer shouted, loud enough for some passersby to turn and glare.

“Can I?”

“W-wait, you’re serious??”

“Why wouldn’t I be?”

Kaelix blinked again, processing everything that just happened. Ah, damn. He really was head over heels for this man. Zeal’s smooth black hair against the bright lights in the background, deep sunset eyes gazing back with so much love, the heart that will never stop loving him and Kaelix knows it.

Fireworks fizzed and crackled in the night sky as they shared a kiss on the summer festival night. Maybe love doesn’t need to be big and loud. Sometimes it could be loving looks thrown across the room. It could be leaving the last bite for each other. Sometimes it could be a soft kiss shared on the beach.
