Work Text:
This job was bullshit. Playing bodyguard to the spoiled and delusional Princess of Hell, at a party full of demons. Vaggie hated every moment of it.
But it was a request from Lucifer himself, and Carmilla promised him that she would send one of her daughters. While Vaggie wasn't Carmilla's biological daughter she was the woman who found and saved her when she was cast out of Heaven. Vaggie honestly expected she'd be killed on that day, when Carmilla and her daughters found her.
Instead, the Overlord took her in, helped her back on her feet, and in a way adopted her. She thought of Vaggie as her family, and so did her daughters.
Vaggie was grateful for the help, she really was and she cared for all of them too... but this... "No way, no way, no way, no way in Hell. Why me? Why can't one of them do it?" She slammed her hands on Carmilla's desk.
"Because out of you three you are the least known. You'll blend in. It's not like it's a difficult task, just make sure to stay by the Princessa's side during the event. If anything goes wrong you have my full permission to kill." Carmilla handed her the file with Charlie's information as if she needed it. She learned a lot about the Princess, both while she was in Heaven and down here in Hell.
"Yeah, and don't let your crush on her get in the way. It's bad for business." One of her sisters teased her as she leaned against the fallen angel, her eyes skimming the papers.
"It is not a crush." Vaggie mumbled under her breath as a golden blush dusted her cheeks. "She's just a target."
"Uh-huh. We've all said that at some point, little sis. At least we know you'll keep an eye on her." The other one rounded to her other side and squeezed Vaggie in a big hug. They treated her like an actual little sister sometimes and Vaggie wasn't sure if that was good or bad.
Good, because they thought of her as family and loved her just the same. Bad, because she carried immense guilt over being the source of their yearly problems. Part of them at least.
"Vagatha. There will be many important demons at that event. Many of them wanting power and no doubt trying to use Lucifer's daughter to get it, by any tactics necessary. You will be there to make sure the Princess isn't harmed."
"Can't little miss Sunshine and Rainbows take care of herself? Isn't she supposed to be really powerful?" According to Heavenly propaganda she was as bad as Lucifer, only cuter in Vaggie's personal opinion.
"Princess Charlotte is a... kind of a pacifist. Perhaps we could learn from her." What did Carmilla mean by that? Learn what exactly? This was Hell. You either killed or were killed.
Just like Carmilla said and as was her reputation Charlie was like a bundle of joy wrapped in a demonic image. Despite not living up to the dangerous rumors Vaggie heard about her, Charlie's charm and laugh were perhaps even more dangerous.
"Hey, its Vaggie, right?" The melodic voice got Vaggie's attention.
"Hm? Ah, oh, yeah. Anything you need, your Majesty?" Vaggie had been standing back while Charlie chatted with other demons, the distance let her have a better view of any oncoming threats. That and she also had no desire to mingle with the crowd.
"Well I look pretty lame out there without my date." Charlie chuckled.
"I'm your bodyguard, not your date. Go ahead, have your pick, I'll keep guard around both of you, or however many you want." She really didn't want to think about the Princess making out with random people. But watching over her was part of her job so she's gonna grit her teeth and bear it.
Charlie tilted her head and frowned, looking slightly confused at what Vaggie was saying. "That'd be rude to you after I specifically asked for you to be here with me."
"Y-You asked for me specifically?" Did she hear that right?
"Yeah. My dad told me I could pick my own bodyguard for tonight and I've had my eye on you for a while. You're dedicated, you take your job seriously, your record is almost flawless." Charlie may have been praising her with stars in her eyes but Vaggie was sweating buckets. If Charlie was keeping an eye on her then it would only be a matter of time before she figured out she was an angel. She needs to get done with this mission and then never see Charlie again.
"I'm dedicated, like you said. Carmilla did a lot for me so I'm trying to pay her back as best as I can. Not a lot of people would take in a stray like me." Not to mention a fallen angel, but Charlie doesn't need to know that part.
In fact it would be best if she never knew that part. Vaggie does not have a death wish.
"As I understand it, she adopted you after finding you in the aftermath of an Extermination. I always thought she was pretty cool, if a little scary. Okay, very scary." Charlie looked at Vaggie up and down, "Kinda like you, but not as pretty as you." She closed her mouth as soon as she realized she was speaking her mind a bit too openly. The red dots on her cheeks flared and she tugged her tie a bit looser, "Uhm, I mean, the dress... you know... you didn't have to dress up but you did. So you kinda look like my date and if you want to be that you sure can cause you're just my type and... and... I'm gonna go get some air now. Bye!"
"Wait, Princess!" But it was too late for Charlie was already making a run for it, attracting way more eyes than Vaggie wanted on her. She really hated the spotlight. "Great. Just great. Fuck my life." A spontaneous confession was the last thing she expected to hear tonight.
How does one even respond? This wasn't just anybody, this was the damn Princess of Hell! Yes, Vaggie was under Carmilla protection technically but she didn't want to piss off Lucifer himself by hurting his daughter. Then she might actually be dead.
With self-preservation and confused feelings being her driving forces Vaggie took off in the direction she saw Charlie run off in.
She did her best to ignore the looks from others.
As she exited into the hallway it didn't take her long to stumble across a couple making out and grinding against each other. People down here really have no shame. But it was no longer her place to judge them, and maybe it never was to begin with.
"Princess, aren't you cold out here?" Vaggie found Charlie out on a balcony, her arms wrapped tight around herself as she leaned against the railing.
Charlie didn't respond as Vaggie approached and leaned next to her. From here she could see Heaven clearly, her once home.
"I'm sorry. For putting you on the spot like that. I really didn't mean... I did, I meant every word. You're really pretty. But I didn't mean to put any pressure on you to respond or anything. In case you haven't noticed I have a bit of a problem when it comes to rambling. And I'm doing it again, aren't I?" She promptly closed her mouth shut but her moving tail betrayed her anxious nature. How was the Princess of Hell so cute?
Was she actually the Princess of Hell? Cause she was nothing like Vaggie imagined. Even when she watched the broadcasts with her she figured Charlie was partially faking her niceness and cuteness.
Apparently not. No one could fake this. Fuck, why was she Vaggie's type?!
"You are horrible flirt, Princess Charlotte." Charlie blushed even deeper when Vaggie put her finger under her chin and drew her closer. "And you're really not what I expected. A nice surprise though, but I'm afraid it'll make my job a lot harder."
"W-Why is that?" She didn't miss the way Charlie's eyes drifted to her lips.
"Because now I'm also gonna have to refrain myself from doing things no bodyguard should. You're my employer, it would be entirely unprofessional if I were to accept your flirting." Vaggie felt Charlie's tail brush against her hip, causing her to shiver. She really wasn't doing a good job resisting.
"I don't mind engaging in professional relations. But... I could fire you if it would make things easier." She was serious. This woman was actually serious.
"No thanks, Princess, I like my job, but thanks for the offer? I think." Vaggie laughed as Charlie grumbled and backed away from her. "Hey, don't feel bad, at least you had enough decency to at least offer to fire me. A few other people I've guarded just wanted to fuck me the moment they were alone with me. I swear something in the air must be making people horny."
"No, that's in the Lust Ring, but uncle Ozzie has it controlled pretty good." Charlie took a few deep breaths and with each her demonic features subsided. "Well, now that I've made a complete fool of myself, do you want to go back inside? If not I'll understand, I'll pay you either way."
Vaggie shook her head and grabbed Charlie's hand. "No need to be so dramatic, Princessa. I still intend to finish the job. Just... don't flirt with me while I'm on the clock, okay?"
"So I can do it off the clock? Do you wanna hang out sometime? I'm free any time you want me. To hang out I mean." Vaggie was actually a little flattered by this. She managed to make the Princess of Hell this flustered and tongue tied and she didn't even try. What would happen if she did? Does she even dare find out?
Well yes.
"I would love to get to know you better, Princessa. I'll make sure to tell Carmilla to give me some free time after I'm done here. Can I have your phone?" She held out her hand and as soon as Charlie handed her phone over she put her number in. "There you go."
"Oh! Thank you, but uhm... something's missing." Charlie typed something up with a smile on her face. "Perfect!" A little purple heart and an X were now next to Vaggie's name.
She didn't comment on it when Charlie showed her, she quicky turned away to hide her golden blush because how cute was that! She was supposed to be a bodyguard, and here she was, blushing from a few emojis.
"Now that we got that settled, do you wanna go back inside? We don't have to dance. I won't ask you again. Gonna save that for the third date at least." But she did offer her arm, a charming grin on her face appearing right in time for her horns to shine through.
"You're very sure of yourself, aren't you?"
"I get that a lot. Well, sometimes. It's the sin of Pride. Kinda... born with it." She shrugged it off, beaming even more when Vaggie took her under the arm and walked back into the dance room with her.
The rest of the night, the rest of Vaggie's mission went smoothy. Charlie still threw in a flirty line at her here and there but it was the blush that followed that really made Vaggie sigh and smile.
Odette and Clara ambushed her as soon as she got home. "So how was it? Did you get to make out with the Princess? Are there wedding bells in the future? Do we need to give her the shovel talk cause you know we'll do it."
"Stop it you two, it was a mission just like any other... plus she asked me out on a date. Don't know when, but she has my number. And that's all the details the two of you are getting from me. If I feel like it I'll give you more details tomorrow." Something tells her that her sisters didn't need her to tell them the details. They had their own information network, if they wanted to know something they'd find out eventually.
"Vaggie. Welcome home. How did it go?" Carmilla didn't ask but Vaggie could tell she was also more curious about Charlie than about the mission itself. She never doubted Vaggie could do her job well. Never the less she was a mother, and a mother always worries.
"It was fine, also could you make sure my next week is free? The Prince- Charlie and I are going on a date." Just didn't know when.
But Charlie could call in the middle of the night and Vaggie would agree to meet her. Mostly because she knew there were all kinds of creeps out at that time and Charlie would be polite until the last second. She was seriously too nice.
Even up in Heaven that wasn't exactly good, no matter how much they wanted to preach otherwise.
Her morning was her normal routine, wake up early, take a shower to fully wake up, do warm ups, training, then another shower, then breakfast. She was in the middle of said breakfast when her phone started ringing.
Unknown number.
If it was scammers or someone thinking they could hire her to fuck her... "Hello?" She would not be polite.
"Hi! Good morning, Vaggie! It's Charlie! Charlie Morningstar, the Princess of Hell! Good morning! Oh, er, I already said that!" Never mind, Vaggie would be polite.
"I know, I'd recognize your voice even this early in the morning. I didn't think you'd call already. You doing well this morning?" At that very moment Odette and Clara chose to walk into the living room. "Sorry, what was that?"
"I said I'm doing great, I wanted to ask you about our date. When are you free? I know this is really soon but depending on the day I might need to make reservations. Unless you'd rather hang out at a cafe or something, that works too. Am I talking too much again?" Was this something people told her often? With how much she was mentioning it Vaggie suspected it to be true.
"You're fine, Charlie trust me. For my schedule, I'm free for the entire week." Her sister's heads snapped at attention as soon as she mentioned Charlie's name.
"Are you free right now? We could go get coffee? Unless you already had some?" Charlie's voice was so hopeful, so cheerful that Vaggie could practically feel her smile through the phone.
She glanced at the half empty cup of coffee. "Coffee? Nope. None yet. We can go get some." She cringed at her own white lie and even deeper when she heard her sisters gasp and then make kissy noises and faces at her. They could be so immature sometimes, very rare times but it still happened.
"Great! Ever been to the Final Sip? It's been a long time favorite of mine. Real nice staff and owners too."
"Never been there but I'll take your word for it. Send me the details and I'll be there. Hey, you...! No, not you Charlie, my sisters are being weird. I'll see you in a bit okay? Bye." She glared at the two demons as she set her phone down, almost daring them to keep going.
"Aw, you have a date already. She must have really, really liked you! That's good, right? You like her too?" Clara asked with an all too smug grin on her face, leaning against the kitchen counter.
"Well, I mean yeah, of course I do. Didn't think she wanted me this much though. Kinda feels too good to be true." Vaggie rubbed her arms, staring at the plate of her half-eaten breakfast like it could make her self-hatred go away if she asked nicely.
Odette and Clara liked teasing their sister but when she started to talk like this they immediately shifted into protective mode. Maybe a little unwarranted considering Vaggie was part of the Exorcist army at one point but they couldn't help themselves. "Don't talk about yourself like that. Of course she'd like you! What's not to like about you, Vaggie? If the Princess of Hell thinks you're so much of a catch to jump at the chance to go on a date with you don't you think that says something? Give yourself a little credit here!"
Maybe her sisters were right. Maybe she was too much in her own head. Charlie didn't seem like the person who would break someone's heart just because.
Before she could decide against it she made quick work of hear breakfast and changed from into one of her favorite, yet casual, button ups and a short skirt. The kind that showed off her legs because even she knew that her thighs were one of her most attractive features. Charlie did say she wanted things to be casual and that she will let Vaggie set the pace but that didn't mean Vaggie wouldn't put some work into teasing the princess.
Even though this was just a coffee date she still got there earlier.
Apparently not early enough because Charlie was already waiting for her in front of the cafe. Did she own any casual clothes? Was business casual what passed as casual for Charlie? Not that Vaggie was complaining!
The princess absolutely rocked that office shirt, pants and tie combo. She did have a jacket tied around her waist so maybe that's where the casual part came from.
"Already here? You really must have looked forward to this." Vaggie leaning on from behind her to whisper in her ear made Charlie jump.
"Oh fuck! Vaggie!" Charlie quickly gathered herself, her cheeks blushing, "Do you usually come up from behind or...?"
"Nah. I usually do all my best work from the front. But you know, from the back works too." She enjoyed watching Charlie squirm as she grappled with the meaning of her words. "I'm a bodyguard, remember?"
Charlie gulped and tugged her tie slightly looser, "Right, yeah, that is how we met. But right now you're just a pretty girl who I somehow managed to get a date with! So, let me treat you to the best coffee Hell has to offer!" With a dramatic flair and a bow Charlie opened the door for Vaggie and grinned at her as she walked past her.
"Well, if it ain't my favorite Princess! Long time no see, Charlie!" The big incubus greeted them both from behind the counter. "Table for you and the pretty lady you got in tow?" He wiggled his eyebrows at her, "Private or nah?"
"No need for a private one just yet, Brent. This is Vaggie, it's our first date. I wanted to take her to one of my favorite places and you just know it had to be here." Charlie glanced back at Vaggie, waiting for her to take her hand.
"Flattery, flattery. My place is just less shitty than everywhere else. But means a lot when other people ask you for cum shots in their coffee. We only offer those on the weekends! Glad to have at least someone in here who's more normal." He waived them in a directing of a free table without even blinking at the fact what Vaggie looked at him like he was nuts for offering... coffee cum shots.
Vaggie looked at the chair Charlie pulled out for her. "And how do you know those are clean? I mean with what your friend just told us... I have my doubts."
"Oh, don't worry, they always clean the place. It's almost spotless, you can almost eat off the floor. Just... not on the weekends." Charlie didn't seem nearly as weirded out by this as Vaggie was but then again, she did grow up in Hell. Vaggie was sure she'd seen some things.
When it comes to that side of Hell, she was still relatively new to it.
"Charlie! You're back, for a while there I thought you forgot all about me!" A red succubus, in what looked like a maid outfit with bondage gear both above and below it, approached the table. Her tail swished back and forth as she looked at Charlie, very intently.
"It's been a while, Kia. I've been super busy lately but today I'm here with-"
"Vaggie." The secret angel interrupted as she leaned a bit closer, "We're on a date." Politely, as politely as she could she offered a handshake.
"Pleasure is all mine, beautiful. And could be yours too. I don't mind being shared by two hotties." Her wink made Vaggie think she was joking but she couldn't be sure. "In the meantime, what can I get you girls? Charlie, the usual? Or something sweeter for you and your sweetheart?"
"I'll have my usual, and you, Vaggie?"
"I'll have whatever she's having." It wasn't that she didn't want to look at the menu, she just didn't trust the flirty succubus around Charlie.
"Hope you like sugar explosion in your mouth." She deliberately swayed her hips and tail as she walked back to make their coffee.
"So, friend of yours?" Vaggie was not jealous. She had no right to be. Even though she was here for a short amount of time she herself had been flirted with plenty of succibi and inccubi. They were flirty by nature, and she was never interested.
"Kind of yeah. Like I said this place is nice, the staff is super friendly and unlike some they aren't pushy about, well, you know, stuff. Although I did make the mistake of coming here on the weakened once." Judging by her facial expression it wasn't the most pleasant memory. Vaggie could imagine, although she didn't want to.
Their drinks arrived just in time, and with them, Kia, the busty succubus. "As I remember you were the only one who didn't end up coming."
"Haha, very funny Kia. You're hilarious sometimes." Charlie glared at her, to no effect.
"I'm hilarious all the time, dollface. I'll leave you guys to your date. But Charlie, just so you know because you weren't here in a while I'm expecting a big tip from you. More if you're willing." It's been a while since Vaggie killed a demon just because she wanted to. And that whole rule of leaving the Hellborn alone no longer applied to her right?
Charlie sighed before taking a sip of her coffee, with way too much swirly cream on top. "This is the best! Vaggie, you gotta try this!"
It wasn't as good as the coffee up in Heaven but that was kind of the point wasn’t it? "I feel my teeth falling out. How much sugar is in this?" Vaggie wiped her mouth clean from the cream, her smile hiding beneath.
"A lot but I like the combo. Sometimes Razzle and Dazzle have to remind me to eat actual food cause I'll get too invested into work and down a lot of these. Never got a rush from it though, I don't think I can." Charlie leaned against the chair, one arm thrown over the back of it, "And, uhm, please don't mind what Kia said, she's naturally flirty like that, she didn't mean it."
"Oh, yes I did!" Kia's voice boomed joyfully from the front bar.
"Okay, maybe she did but I asked you on a date Vaggie, so I'd rather focus just on you if you don't mind. Unless you want... I just remembered I didn't ask..."
"I just want you." Vaggie didn't realize how that could sound until she saw Charlie take an anxious sip. "As my date, Charlie. Do they put something in the coffee to make your thoughts horny? Is it like, liquid Viagra or something?"
"As far as I know the cum shot coffee is pretty much that, so I can guarantee that it's not what's in these drinks. I would not ask for that unless you wanna go for a few hours without stopping. Not that I know from my own experience! It's just what I was told! I swear to God!" Honestly it was pretty common knowledge down here in Hell. When it comes to sexual fluids, that of a succubus or an incubus could be sold as a sexual enhancer.
"Relax, Charlie, I was just teasing you. I'm noticing it's very easy to do." To prove her point she ran her foot up Charlie's leg, stopping just at her knee. Vaggie didn't know if horns were an actual indicator of Charlie's horniness but she liked to think so.
Look at her, an angel, having this much effect on the Princess of Hell. In a weird way she knows Adam would say it was a job well done before making dirty jokes about it.
"I haven't dated in a while, give me a break. E-Enough about me, tell me about you, Vaggie. Am I measuring up to your past dates so far? Should I up my game a little?" Charlie regretted asking that as soon as she saw Vaggie's face fall. "Hey, sorry, was that rude? I was kidding."
"No, it's not... it's not you. I don't really, uh, have much experience with this stuff so I don't know what to tell you. I haven't even dated anyone since I got here and my one relationship, well lets just say it didn't end well." She still shivered when she remembered the sick grins Lute and Adam had on their faces when they separated her from her Rain. She didn't see her after that.
"I'm sorry to hear that, Vaggie." Charlie let her hand hover over Vaggie's fist. Only after the angel nodded did she let it envelop her’s. "I've had a relationship that ended badly too. I know what it's like. So I won't ask further, until you're ready to tell me. Okay?"
Until she was ready. Vaggie didn't know if she would ever be ready. But that statement implied that Charlie wanted more of this than just a quick and casual thing.
"Yeah, I appreciate that. For the record though, I think you're doing great so far, Princess." She tried to do the same thing with her foot again only this time she felt Charlie's tail catch her, coiling around her ankle.
"Good to know." The Princess was a picture of innocence, and a devil underneath. There was a serious chance that Vaggie would get herself burned by that hidden fire someday, and call her crazy but that only made her want Charlie more.
