Chapter Text

Loid Forger and Yor Briar.

The best of friends since their first day at the prestigious Eden Academy. It's almost as if they were just meant to meet. Some may call it a coincidence, others may call it fate.

They were so close, in fact – people began a betting pool of when they’d finally get together.

Eventually, that betting pool dwindled with each passing day as the two best friends continued to deny any feelings they had for each other. People eventually got tired and moved on – losing interest in the two ever getting together.

Except for their friend group.

Franky, Sylvia, Melinda, and Olka still held hope that one day the two would get together. They obviously had feelings for each other but are just too afraid to admit it.

One day – they’d see they were meant to be.

One day…

Yor woke up to the sound of knocking on her dorm. She looked over at the clock on her nightstand.

5:30AM

She groaned tiredly, knowing only one person who would be knocking on her dorm at this hour. She made her way towards the door as she opened it up and glared at the person in front of her.

“Rise and shine, princess.”

“Loid, I am tired. Can we do this another time?”

“Oh come on, Yor. It’s routine at this point. Besides, it’s a Saturday. You can sleep in some more when you get back.”

“I have work later, Loid.” She groaned tiredly as she leaned against her door.

“I’ll get you a coffee. Please?” He asked, sticking out his bottom lip and looking at her with his icy blue orbs.

She rolled her eyes at him as she slammed the door in his face. She laughed when she heard him yell out to her about how she almost bruised his nose as she grabbed a jacket and opened the door again to see Loid with an annoyed look on his face. She apologized to him with a smile as she walked out her dorm and the two started making their way out of the academy.

They made their way to a park on top of a hill that overlooked the city of Berlint. It was a park that Yor liked to frequent after a long day at work. They stood at the railing as they breathed in the cool morning air, looking out towards a sea of lights that would soon disappear at sunrise.

Yor leaned against the railing as she rested her chin on her hand. She let out a yawn as she waited for the sun to rise. She looked over at Loid, who was simply admiring the view of the city.

She looked down at the streets and saw a couple who were out on a morning walk. The husband bent down to plant a kiss on the wife’s forehead as they held hands and continued to make their way down the street.

“You know,” she started, “one day you won’t be taking me here anymore.”

Loid raised a brow at her. “Why would you say that?”

“You’re aiming to be an Imperial Scholar, right? You’re gonna become even more popular. So popular, in fact – you’ll eventually get a girlfriend.”

He scoffed at her, “jealous, princess?”

“Of course not, I’d be happy for you. I’m just saying, you know?”

Loid let out a smile, “come on, you know you’re always gonna be my best friend.”

She let out a small smile as she looked back at the city. The sun started to rise as the sea of lights started to disappear. The streets began filling up with people who were either on their way to work or going off somewhere to get breakfast.

“Just promise me I won’t get caught up in your relationship. I’d hate to be in the middle of it.” She told him as she stretched her arms into the air before putting her hands into the pockets of her jacket.

He chuckled at her, “wouldn’t dream of it.”

The two then made their way back to Eden and bid each other goodbye as they made their way towards their respective dorms.

Yor sighed as she threw herself onto her bed. She turned her head to look at a picture of her, Loid, and their siblings at the aquarium sitting on her nightstand. She furrowed her brows as she buried her face into her pillow.

Best friend… Right, because that’s all I’ll ever be in his eyes.

Loid lay in his bed, staring up at his ceiling as he twiddled a red rose between his index and thumb. He looked over at his desk, a picture of him, Yor, and their siblings at the zoo. He sighed to himself as he looked down at the rose.

Yor’s favorite flower.

“Got rejected?”

He looked over to see his roommate, Franky, staring at him with his head propped up on his chin while he lay on his bed.

Loid narrowed his eyes at him as he threw the rose over at his desk and rested his arms behind his head.

“We’re just friends.”

Franky rolled his eyes at that.

“That’s always your excuse, isn’t it?”

“It’s not an excuse. We’re friends. Best friends. That’s all there is to it.”

“Oh, yeah? So you wouldn’t mind if I asked her out then?” Franky smirked, only for it to disappear within seconds when Loid let out a laugh. A laugh that lasted for almost three minutes because he was crying – fucking crying, which only pissed off the scruffy haired teen.

You?” Loid laughed again. “Sorry, buddy. No offense… But, there’s just no way.”

“Uh, did you forget who Yor was exactly? Remember when she went out with that Daybreak guy because she didn’t wanna hurt his feelings?”

Loid immediately stopped laughing. He wasn’t there, but he wished he was when that dumbass Daybreak asked her out. It still made him angry when Yor came up to him that day to tell him about her date with Daybreak. How he had asked her out on the spot in front of other people and Yor – ever the elegant, kind, and gentle soul that she was – had said yes so he wouldn’t feel bad.

He had never seen Yor more uncomfortable that day when she came back from her date. He still very much wanted to beat the living crap out of Daybreak but of course, Yor would not have him do that. Not when he was so close to becoming an Imperial Scholar.

He heard Franky let out a laugh as he clutched his stomach. “God, you’re so pathetic! And you’re saying you don’t like her like that?”

Loid shot a glare at him, turning on his side so his back was now facing Franky.

“Just admit it, Loid Forger. You’re in love with your best friend.”

Oh my god. What the hell is it gonna take for you guys to stop saying that?” He groaned.

Franky laughed to himself as he laid back down on his bed again. “Probably until you finally admit it or get yourself a girlfriend.”

“Fine.” Loid said as he got up from his bed.

“Oh? So you admit that-”

“I’ll get a girlfriend. If that’s what it takes for you to shut your trap.”

Franky’s eyes widened at him as he got up from his bed. This is not what was supposed to happen. Sylvia and the others were going to kill him. He got up frantically as Loid went over to his closet to get out some clothes.

“L-Loid, wait, I was just kidding man! You don’t need to go that far.”

Loid narrowed his eyes at him as he grabbed a towel, preparing to take a shower. He ignored the scruffy haired teen and made his way towards the bathroom. The sound of the shower drowning out any other words the scruffy haired teen had to say to him.

Franky Franklin was so dead.

Notes:

Of course they already love each other but won't admit it. Ever.
