Work Text:
Larissa Weems sat at her writing desk, trying in earnest to complete the biology homework Professor Orloff had assigned. Though it wasn’t due for till Monday she preferred to stay ahead of the curve when it came to school work. No sense in risking a dip to her GPA if the work she turned in wasn’t perfect.
The scratch of her pen across the paper filled the room, the only sound that broke the silence. Larissa always relished in the time she got to spend to herself. At least it was better than the sound of Morticia and Gomez making out (or worse) on Tish’s bed.
A shudder ran through her as she remembered the last time she had walked into the dorm, ready to get something much needed sleep, only to catch the couple going at it. She had slammed the door so fast, rubbing her eyes to get the image she had inadvertently seared into them out, and decided to just spend the night in the library where she fell asleep on a not so comfortable armchair.
Finally writing down the answer to the last question on the three page booklet, she sighed in relief, feeling the familiar satisfaction of a job well done. Later she would double and triple check her answers of course, but for now she tucked away the paper in her desk, and went to her wardrobe to grab her secret stash of tea supplies.
No sooner had she opened the door to the armoire did the door to her room swing open, and an excited Morticia walked in.
“Rissa you’re never going to guess what just happened!”
Larissa rolled her eyes, knowing from the angle that her roommate wouldn’t be able to see her.
“What’s that Tish?” She asked putting on a fake tone of interest. Already guessing she knew what had happened, as this was a more than weekly occurrence.
“Gomez asked me on a date tonight! He’s taking me to the graveyard where we can look at the stars together. Oh I’m so excited I can’t wait!” The long sleeves of her black dress flew wildly as she flopped backward onto her mattress, sighing in delight.
“Oh that’s nice Tish.”
Keeping herself distracted, Rissa continued her task at hand of making tea. Grabbing the tin of loose leaf herbal and long handle of her spoon shaped tea infuser before taking the items to her writing desk where her empty cup sat waiting. Not noticing the dark eyes of Morticia following her every movement.
“Have you ever tried mushrooms Rissa? And I don’t mean the normal kind, I mean like the shroom kind. Gomez and I took them the last time we went to the graveyard, and we sat under the stars and watch the sky move. It was so romantic!”
Larissa froze, turning around slowly to face Morticia, shock and horror written all over her expression. Setting the steeping tool, now filled, down on the desk.
“Drugs? Are you serious? Absolutely NOT. I would never lay a finger on anything of the sort, and shame on you if you have, which I’m guessing you have.”
Morticia just chuckled, “come ON Rissa you’re too uptight, you need to live a little!”
“I live enough thank you very much.” The blonde said as she started to walk to the door, cup in hand.
“Wait where are you going?” Morticia asked, sitting up.
“Getting hot water for my tea,” Larissa said, not looking in Tish’s direction as she sashayed through the door.
Morticia scoffed at her as the door swung shut. All the was trying to do was get the “queen of prim and proper” to loosen up a bit. Suddenly, a deviously awful idea struck her. Remembering she still had some small broken up pieces of the psychedelic hidden in a small baggie up her sleeve.
She rushed across to Larissa’s desk, careful not to move anything out of place. Tish pulled out the baggie and took a couple pieces out, opened up the tea infuser and slipped the mushrooms inside, before carefully setting it back in the exact spot she had found it. Before hurrying to sit at her own small vanity, brushing her hair as if she had been there the whole time.
Right on cue, Larissa came back
Into the dorm with a steaming cup of hot water in her hand. She gingerly placed it on her desk and started swirling the steeping spoon around, watching the water change in color as the tea steeped. Morticia watched her in the reflection of the mirror as she lifted the cup to her ruby lips and sipped.
It had been about twenty minutes, the cup sat empty on Larissa’s bedside table and she herself laid across her bed reading. Morticia watched her like a hawk, waiting for the drugs to kick in.
It happened slowly at first. Rissa started squinting at the pages of the book, the words seeming to dance around, rubbing her eyes to try and get it to stop in vain. After a few minutes she gave up, shutting the book and staring down at the floor, her eyes flew wide open.
“Tish…the floor is moving.”
Oh yea, it had hit. Morticia found herself laughing uncontrollably at the expression on Larissa’s face.
“Morticia I’m serious sm’thing is wrong. why is everything in slow motion and why do you look like a Van Gogh painting?”
“That’ll be the drugs my dear Larissa.”
“You DRUGGED me?!”
“Shh shh calm down, you don’t want a bad trip. Let’s go on a little walk and get some fresh air, and you can talk to the grass. How does that sound?” Morticia asked her as she walked across the room to grab Larissa’s hand.
“That sounds…nice. Let’s do that.” She said mildly incoherent and Morticia briefly wondered if she had given Rissa too much. But watching her touch the door frame, staring at something only visible to herself, she figured the shapeshifter would be alright.
Tisha ended up calling off her date with Gomez that day, instead babysitting a high out of her mind Larissa as she laid in the grass holding on tightly to the green blades with one hand so she wouldn’t float away and clutching onto Morticia’s with the other, afraid that she might float away too, into the kaleidoscopic smiling clouds that kept waving at her.
Morticia knew that once Rissa came back down and felt like herself again she’d probably kill her. But for now she just sat back and enjoyed the show as her roommate giggled and looked around at everything.
