Ozaki Kouyou is the pinnacle of grace, elegance, and power. One who is destined to stand above others. Not one soul would ever have expected someone like herself to be wild and rambunctious in her youth.
But that is exactly the shameful secret she carries in her heart, a secret only known by one other person in Yokohama, and that man has been buried six feet under for years.
Before Golden Demon was tamed, she was a wild Ability that reflected the soul of her wielder. Kouyou’s family line has moved in other criminal societies generations before she was born: the Cosa Nostra of Sicily, the Black Society of Hong Kong, the Russian Bratva, and others. And naturally, she had been brought up the same way.
Her possessing an Ability was both a great boon and a detriment to her family. She was loud, brash, arrogant, and incredibly talented with a blade. Combined with Golden Demon’s might, and there was nary a foe that could stand in her way.
One day, she cut down the wrong person and her family paid the price. They nearly lost their standing with the Triads, which would have spelled disaster as its reach and power are nearly unparalleled in the criminal world. Her own mother was forced to fake Kouyou’s death and hid her away in Yokohama, under the protection of another emerging criminal organization, the Port Mafia.
That was the last time she saw her family.
In her loneliness, she fell in love with a young man, a rising star in the Port Mafia. She herself was on track to Executive status due to her strength and cunning, which she obsessively honed to prevent another tragedy.
But Kouyou’s heart no longer desired to be a part of the criminal underworld; instead, it yearned for the light. So when the young man proposed his escape plan, she readily agreed and they fled. The previous Boss sent droves of mafioso after them, and Kouyou cut down scores of them in turn with Golden Demon’s newly honed blade.
She couldn’t prevent the death of her beloved, however, and was dragged back into the darkness. Despondent and wilted, she closed off her heart and dedicated herself to cultivating a garden in the shadows. If she could not escape to the light, if it was her fate to be ensnared, she could at least devote herself to those also bound and chained in tenebrosity.
