Work Text:
Reisen was walking in the Bamboo Forest. She just got done her daily tasks of delivering medicine to the human village, getting a telescope from Rinnosuke’s store that Eirin requested and picking up some food for dinner tonight and was returning home to relax. When she got back to the Eientei she was greeted by her kinda-landlord/kinda-sister Tewi Inaba.
“Oh hey Tewi, you wanna help me with the groceries I got?” Reisen said, holding out a bag of veggies. Tewi nodded, walked over and gave her a hand.
“Sorry it's not much. Veggies haven’t been cheap recently.” Reisen explained while two carried the stuff into the kitchen area of the Eientei.
“Like 5000 yen for such a small amount of produce. We might as well just grow it ourselves” Reisen said while putting everything away in a mildly annoyed tone. Tewi’s ear perked up hearing this.
“Wait…you can get rich by gardening? I thought Eirin only did that so she didn’t need to buy medical herbs anymore.” The smaller rabbit asked. Reisen nodded. “Well you could start one if you want to. Hopefully Eirin will give you back your shovel.” Tewi was happy to hear this so she went to Eirin.
Tewi went into the laboratory and saw Eirin. Eirin was in a white lab coat over her usual dress and had a lovely pair of glasses on. She was working on making some painkillers when she noticed Tewi enter.
“...What is Tewi? I'm kinda busy. I need to finish this painkiller as money is tight.”
Tewi jumped up onto the counter to sit and talk with her. “Well I know a way we can make some Mon..”
“We are not cooking THAT.” Eirin said instantly, as the bunny has clearly given this idea before after watching a certain Outside World TV show.
“No no no it's not that.” Tewi responded. “I think we should start a garden. Veggies are worth quite a good amount nowadays.” Eirin gave it a thought. It's true they could save money and Tewi would be out of her hair.
“Well I don’t see why not. But you will have to get your own seeds” Eirin told her, getting her shovel from the locker in the room only she had access to. “Just don’t be using this to hit anyone or any pranks” She told her before handing Tewi back the shovel. “...And no growing tobacco or similar herbs. ” Tewi nodded and put the shovel on her back.
“Thanks, also Reisen got your telescope”. Eirin nods as Tewi goes off to start her gardening.
Tewi went to the kitchen to grab a tomato and took it to Eirin’s herb garden in the backyard. It isn't very big now, but has room for expansion. She found an unused spot, dug a small hole, ripped the tomato in half, scooped the seeds out, and then buried them into the hole. After doing so and devouring the remains, she grabbed the nearby watering can and watered the tomatoes carefully.
“I hope these grow well.” Tewi said to herself. But little did she know, Kaguya was behind her seeing the whole thing.
“Well well well.” The princess said. “Didn’t expect you to take up this hobby.”
“Oh hey Kaguya. I thought you were napping or playing on your computer”
Kaguya shrugged. “The servers are down for maintenance so I’m checking on what you are doing. I hope this goes well. I could order stuff off the internet for you and have it delivered by Kappa Drones.” Tewi smiled. “Thanks, I think I would need more seeds and that book the Aki sisters wrote on basic plant farming.”
Kaguya nodded “I will get them for ya,. Why not come in and help Reisen with that telescope.” Tewi listened and followed the princess back inside.
It was the next day and life was going well for the Eientei group. Reisen was still trying to assemble the telescope for Eirin, Tewi was reading up a book called “How To Make A Great Garden” by Minoriko Aki that she got today thanks to next day shipping and Kaguya was feeding one of the many many many MANY rabbits that seem to be everywhere in the Bamboo Forest.
“Huh?” Tewi said out loud. “It says that you need to protect your plants from pests…and rabbits are one of them. What the Makai?” Reisen looked up while connecting the body to the tripod.
“Yeah there is a reason Eirin puts fences around her herbs.” Tewi kept reading.
“I’m gonna go plant more seeds and make sure the rabbits aren’t eating anything.” The small pink one stated. So she ran off to the backyard with seeds in hand. When she got there she saw there were bunnies everywhere. Hopping about, sniffing the grass and getting close to her Tomato planet that was already sprouting for some reason. Tewi didn’t want that so she ran towards the bunnies to scare them off. Some of them ran away but others didn’t so Tewi went to shoot the ground near them with danmaku to get them to run away. Now that they were gone Tewi planted the carrot seeds and watered them. She also gave her tomato plants some water and noticed they were oddly starting to sprout.
“This is weird. The book said that it takes awhile to gr…”
“What’s with all the noise?” A Kaguya sounding voice said from behind her. Tewi turned around to see Kaguya standing there. “Oh Princess, some bunnies were being bothersome, don’t worry. Also do you know why the plants are growing so fast?”
“Oh well you know how me and Mokou have very violent fights once a week? Well I think when we fight our blood gets into the ground and due to bits of the Hourai Elixir being in our blood it probably made the soil very strong which is probably why everything grows faster. “ Kaguya explained to a confused Tewi. “That or I blessed the forest ages ago and forgot.” She said while shrugging. Tewi nods. “Okay…I’m gonna go and get the tool box to make a fence. Take care.” She said while leaving. Kaguya stood outside enjoying the calm air.
“KAGUYA!” Yelled a familiar voice. It was Mokou charging at her holding two Machetes. “It's Wednesday, meaning it's our fight day.” Kaguya took a blade from her. “Oh it’s so on”.
Meanwhile Tewi was looking around for the tool kit and returned to Reisen who got the telescope finished and Eirin was with her.
“Hey, you know where the tool box is, trying to make more protection for my veggies.” Tewi asked while hearing the Mokou VS Kaguya fight go on in the background.
“Oh we were using it at the moment” Reisen said as the building shook a bit. “But we are basically done so it should be al-”
“AHHHHHHHH” said a voice from outside followed by a thud. Then Mokou appeared in the kitchen shortly. “Sorry for the noise.” she said, out of breath. “But I could really go for a drink.” She placed the machete down, got a soda from the fridge and sat at the table to drink it.
“...Hey Mokou, Where is Kaguya?” Asks Eirin, worried from all the sounds going on.
“Currently…on top of some dirt mount after I finished her off.”Mokou said, while downing her drink. Tewi was shocked. “Oh no, That was my carrot patch” Tewi ran off back, returning to see Kaguya lying on top of the spot where she planted the carrots. Tewi walked over slowly to check on her. But then… “RESURRECTION” and Kaguya was in a bright glow and she stood right up. After dusting herself off she turned to Tewi.
“Oh, I’m guessing I lost that fight” Tewi nodded and Kaguya noticed where she was standing and stepped away. “Oh No, I am so sorry Tewi. Didn’t mean to ruin it.” The young bunny was sad for a bit but then Kaguya remembered. “Tewi…its best if you take cover, I’m worried due to what might-" But she was cut off by the ground shaking, REALLY shaking. A bunch of green leaves appeared in the spot she landed.
“They Grew,” Tewi said happily. “Seems like the blood theory was true.” Tewi went to go and try one but… The ground shook again. The spot was shaking a lot as a MASSIVE carrot grew from the spot leaving all the smaller ones scattered around the yard. Reisen and Eirin ran out to see what the chaos was and their mouths dropped like they just saw a lunarian invasion.
It has been a week since Tewi’s Giga Carrot came to be. It was eventually measured as 20 feet long and was very thick, at least 1’5 feet across. They had to chop up chunks from it and sell it in the village, but on the plus side, it did taste good and didn't have any known side effects (at the moment). They all managed to get their money situation solved and didn’t have to worry about food for a good while.
