Work Text:
Today was an abnormally quiet day at S.U.I.T. Not that anyone was complaining, though. Usually the place was bustling with agents running to and from missions. Though, the building’s busiest place was now the food court.
Brash and Mango were sat at the food court enjoying their respective sandwiches. Mango enjoyed layering tons of different ingredients on top while Brash only ordered the same few ingredients, ham, cheese, and meat. The slow day gave the two a moment to relax without having to search for clues and stuff.
“A day to ourselves is nice, huh Brash?” Mango asked with his mouth half full of the sandwich he was eating. Brash wiped the food specks off his scales and huffed.
“I don’t know what to do with myself though.” Without any missions going, Brash was incredibly bored. He didn’t know what to do around S.U.I.T or even around town without a mission to investigate.
“Whenever we have spare time I usually knit.” Mango commented absentmindedly right before he took another big bite of his sandwich.
“You knit?” Brash’s eyebrows raised a bit.
“Yeah, I usually don’t get a chance to though, because we’re always so busy with missions!” Mango dramatically threw a hand over his forehead and leaned back in his chair.
Brash never knew Mango knitted, then again whenever a mission ended he usually took a nap the moment they entered the room. Then, before he knew it another mission was being tossed at them.
Mango shoved the rest of his sandwich into his mouth and paid the bill for the two of them.
“You owe me!” He chuckled.
Brash gave a smile and followed Mango to their room. Since they were a duo they got to share a room. It was blessing and curse, for one they got to hang out more, but Mango always had an absolute mess on his side.
When they entered that fact was made even more apparent to Brash. He could barely even make it to his side of the room with how much junk was on Mango’s floor. His side was spotless, couldn’t Mango just clean his a bit?
Despite Brash’s clear annoyance Mango just took out a pair of needles and a ball of yarn. It took him a minute to get his needles right but when he did he was off knitting like crazy! Brash didn’t notice he knitted, much less that he was this good at it!
Brash watched closely as Mango’s sharp fingers gently worked their way through the yarn. Mango must’ve noticed him staring, since he held up another pair of needles towards him.
“I could teach you!” He offered, looking expectantly at Brash.
Brash hesitated for a moment before taking the needles in his hands. He had absolutely no experience in knitting but was willing to try, even if it was just for Mango.
“Okay, so first you put the needle through that loop.” Mango demonstrated to Brash how to do a simple stitch to start him off.
“Ugh, I can’t do this!” Brash exclaimed after trying and failing to perform the stitch even once. This was just stupid, he thought.
“Your hands are too shaky.” Mango stood behind Brash and held his hands in his, showing him how to do the stitch. Brash, however was far too distracted by the feeling of their two bodies pressed together. His cheeks were beginning to darken, though luckily Mango was behind him and could not see.
“Can you show me again? I wasn’t paying attention.” Brash mumbled. He wasn’t lying, the only thing he could focus on was Mango’s warm breath on his neck, and the warmth of his body behind him, and—
“Just like that, see?” Mango said as he finished demonstrating once more, guiding Brash’s hands gently between his own sharp fingers.
“Uh-huh.” Brash was too embarrassed to admit he had been too distracted to pay attention again. Plus, Mango might get annoyed having to repeat himself for the third time.
Mango sat back across from Brash, who turned to the side to hide his dusted cheeks.
“It’s getting hot in here, isn’t it?” Brash tried to placebo affect Mango into thinking his blush was because of the nonexistent heat in the room.
“It’s December — but you’re right, it is hot.” Mango fanned himself with one hand and sat back on his bed.
Brash put down his pair of needles and ball of yarn, if he was going to learn he couldn’t be all flustered just from a pair of hands on his own. Especially not his partner’s!
He decided to take a nap, maybe by the time he wakes up they’ll have a mission.
👀
Brash woke up to the sound of the General Inspector yelling at Mango. Groggily, he opened one eye and poked up from where he was sleeping under a large bundle of blankets.
“—you understand me Mango!?” G.I Moe pointed a finger at the darker alligator accusingly. Whatever Mango did, it must’ve been bad since he had only seen the General Inspector so mad once! That being when E-Orb flushed the system and got them both in trouble.
“Yes sir…” Mango lowered his head dejectedly. He never liked being yelled at by anyone, much less the General Inspector who looked quite frightening when upset.
Once he left, Brash sat up fully.
“What happened? Why was he in here yelling at you?”
“I kinda had an idea that, since you were so bad at knitting and it was making you upset I would ask Sven to make me a V.E.S.T to help you. He said no, obviously so I maybe a little bit tried to steal one…” Mango admitted with an embarrassed grin on his face. It was a stupid idea, sure but he just wanted to help his friend learn.
“You can’t just go stealing the classified Very Exciting Spy Technology just to make me happy!” Brash was dumbfounded, he had no clue Mango was so eager to help him that he’d do something as stupid as that!
“I know.” Mango perked up a bit “but I just wanted to help you out because you were so upset at not being able to knit.”
“Mango, it wasn’t about the knitting.” Brash felt his face heating up, was that even possible for an alligator to do? Considering they’re cold blooded.
“It wasn’t?” Mango asked with his mouth wide. If it wasn’t about him being unable to knit, what was it about?
“I really like hanging out with you. And, maybe I feel like I like you more than friends like friends.” Brash admitted while trying to stop his wagging tail from thumping on the bed.
“Like, best friends?” Mango scratched his head. What did that mean, more than — wait a minute.
“WAIT LIKE DATING!?” Mango yelled in surprise when it hit him. He never imagined Brash thought of him like that too!
“SHHHH! SHUSH! but yes.” Brash turned his head with narrowed eyes away from Mango in embarrassment.
“I know that you might—“ Brash turned his head back to Mango only for their lips to meet unexpectedly.
It seemed, however that neither of them minded. Brash and Mango even came closer in fhe kiss. Mango grabbed Brash’s arms and held him while they kissed.
“Woah, did we just kiss?” Mango asked after they each finally separated from the other’s lips. Both of their cheeks were now red as they looked into each other’s eyes.
“Mango, I just wanted to say im sorry that I—“ The General Inspector had entered their room to apologize to Mango, but quickly trailed off upon seeing his two employees blushing and holding each other.
“Did you guys finally kiss?” He asked excitedly, he had made a bet with Monocle that the two would end up kissing before Valentine’s Day. Moe really did not want to lose that bet.
“It’s not what it seems?” Mango shrugged without letting go of Brash’s arms.
G.I Moe just winked and left the room. The two alligators just sat with each other in their arms for a moment before speaking
“We should go see what he was gonna say.” Mango said, giving a small kiss to Brash’s nose.
“Okay, but dont say a word to him about this. He can’t keep a secret from Monocle to save his life!” Brash laughed.
